Average drummer. I said it years ago. His movement and power is tame. Just look at the GMEX 97 or Wembley 2000 footage. Listen to the Be Here Now bootlegs. Now compare this to Zak or Chris Sharrock. I've always said White was tame. Anyone else notice this...

DBTT and DOYS wouldn't be the same with Alan thats for sure but that's more a question of drumming style than drumming abilities. Alan was a good drummer in his own way. Zachs style didn't really suit some of the older songs, I think they've found a bit of everything with Chris.

Yes exactly, Zakks style was retro English stuff, I'll admit that Allan did slow down, but when he first joined, it does seem as if it must have been so exciting. Replacing that old plod Toni Mac who was worse than the synchronised beats on your kids £30 key boards. This loud, adventurous, fresh face! Listen to Maine Road or better yet, Glastonbury 95. Amazing stuff I think. Different fills, never repeats the same fills.
I am 100% confident in saying that Morning Glory wouldnt have been half the album it was with out Allan. Loud reverberationg thumbing rhythm
Chris is good from what I see. But i think that everyone else in the band looking fatigued doesnt do much for him. I would imagine that just the youthfullness and passion when whitey joined would have added to his inspiration and willingness. Chris hasnt had that opportunity 14 years on, but hes still a damn good drummer!

Alan White will always be the definitive Oasis drummer.
He was bored by the time they reached Heathen Chemistry though, but so was everyone else.

Alan White is a big part of the Oasis sound, atleast for me. when i listen to live bootlegs now the old songs don't sound as good. chris is a great drummer, but listen to 'Supersonic' for example - now compared to say Wembley - alan just gave a little more life to the old songs in my opinion. can't complain about the new stuff, but it would be cool to see what alan would have done with dbtt and doys, probably would have been very different albums

That's because they've been playing a shitty arrangement of Supersonic recently IMO. On the DM DVD , Gem talks about how the recorded version 'just slow enough' or something like that. On record slow works great, but live played slow like this it's fucking dull. On the Wembley 2000 version, which I guess you're referring to, Noel, finally liberated by a stellar backing, plays riffs and melodies and solos also over the place. The FTM version is fast & energetic not plodding & onerous like it's been on the Dig Out Your Soul tour.

Alan White was an awesome drummer, thats why Noel picked him cos he heard him drumming and thought he was amazing
i think Zak was a bit more showy
didnt Alan have trouble with his hands or wrists, thats why Steve came in for him on occasions

IMHO I think Zak was the best drummer that Oasis may ever have, but I also believe that the other drummers had something special

i just don't t hink its about who is the 'best' technically speaking, i think its about who fits a bands sound the best. technically i think zak is better from a strict musicianship standpoint, but i think alan suited oasis better

Alan is a greater technical player, and Zak fit Oasis from 2005 to 2008. I don't really like Zak's playing, but it serves to fit well with the band. I've got to say that since I first got into Oasis I have stood behind Tony McCarroll. He lacks technical skill, but fit Oasis' sound. I don't know who else could have drummed that album. Alan White doesn't do Live Forever justice, and Zak makes it even worse. Sharrock is doing a good job at the "all-round" thing, though. That being said, I can't "rate" the drummers because it has all to do with their unique styles. I much prefer Alan and Tony and I don't particularly enjoy Zak, but they are all competent musicians and all fit with Oasis in their time.

As a drummer Alan has such a huge influence on me (hell i even own his signature ride cymbal). He fitted Oasis perfectly. He wasn't heavy like Zak was, Alan always had a little bounce in his rhythms probably due to his jazz background. Listen to "Hello" its stomps quite well but his quick fills add some much to the song and i think though Zak could make Hello 10 times stompier Zak probably couldn't pull off the quick jazzy fills that Alan could pull off. Also check out Wonderwall the drums are such a key part in that song he just nails it perfectly. He made the songs on DM sound a little fresher by simple adding in a couple snare hits on the "and" in Supersonic. Some claim that Alan just played the "same beat for each song" but this is completely wrong. Yes a lot of Alan's beats do sound similar but again to his jazz back ground Alan adds in "ghost notes" a lot when he is playing these "ghost notes" add a ton of texture to the song with necessarily being heard. Alan will always be the Oasis drummer for me personally. He was with Noel and Liam in their prime and stayed with them during their low period. Its a shame Liam and Noel have never really spoken about why Whitey was kicked out or quit. If he got kicked out because he didn't show up then i really pity the man. He deserved a lot better from Liam and Noel after dealing with tour walk outs from both of them and still stuck with them. I mean sure he making a killing but he could have gone on to other successful things. Its hard to believe its been 5 years since he has been out. Top drummer and from interviews and books seems like a cool down to earth guy.
Zak on the other hand is a great drummer. Easily one of the best drummers in the world. He just never really seemed to mold with Oasis quite as well as i would have liked. Chris is easily their second best next to Alan. The guy is a pure showman and he combines both Zak's power with Alan's preciseness.

Best drummer they've ever played with was Steve White. I've made this point several times on this forum. He basically played like Alan only with alot more energy and put alot more power into it.

I don't really give a crap about how technically good a drummer is because unlike playing the guitar, the difference between an average drummer and a good drummer is not that great.
For me Alan will always be the drummer of Oasis whether it be live or on album. And people knock him for his technical skills but even in that area he isn't as bad as some make him out to be.

Best drummer of Oasis is Zak of couse. But I see how alot of you think Alan is because he just fits into the "sound." But honestly, as a drummer, I grew tired of seeing Alan playing the same beats, same fills, same progression and same mannerisms. I understand each drummer has his own stlye but for the love of God I was hoping he could give me a simple strong beat with no ghost notes.
Zal and Chris are God sends, fucking Lord Dont Slow Me Down, with Zaks bit in the end of Rock n'Roll Star. Chris is just awesome with his stick tricks and his fast style. Alan is boring.

I'm in your side, man JUST COMPARE OR IMO, of all of the above, the weaker was Alan. Maybe Zak don't played Wonderwall very well, but thats because he doesn't used the same progression over and over again.

great drummer
Noel picked him, Alan comes from a drumming family, he fitted Oasis perfectly
I never prefered Zak, Oasis have never been about the drummer but the drummer has to fit in with Oasis which I think Chris does now!

Technically, he might... but to me Alan was/is/always will be the best drummer for Oasis. Nobody can beat his drumming of "Swamp Song" from Maine Road 1996.
I've only seen Steve White once. What a drummer is that.
I've never been a fan of Zak, but I must admit that Chris is a great drummer.

Any half decent drummer could play with Oasis.
However, Alan White IS Oasis, none of the other drummers since have been. THat's the difference, he was in the band, Zak and Chris aren't in the band, it's not the same. Oasis is not a full band until they have Alan on the sticks.
