I like the record. I think "Tell the world that you love them with a melody. Send my old piano in a telegram." From 'Bag It Up' Is my favourite Oasis line in a long time. Sums up Oasis for me. Gifts of melody.
I also think some of the lyrics have parental under tones. TSOL kind of like "the shock of life"=birth. Tied up tight, come in come out, etc. just a loose idea.
i am enjoying the record quite a bit.

In an age where albums are becoming less of an artform due to itunes an all that. Oasis are now masters at putting a flowing, balanced and diverse collection of songs on record.
They make great albums.

RE: the second half of DOYS.
Thank Jah for Andy, Liam and Gem cos without them an oasis record would have little variety, interest or surprise cos everything Noel does we've heard him do before. (a few times)
I can't wait for the next album! lmao

To be honest I think WFTR is one of the weakest on the album. A lot of people are banging on about but it just sounds boring to me, definitely not the best song of all time, far from it in fact. The Alternate version pisses all over the album track. To me it sounds like they adapted the tune to suit the style of the album and it didn't do it for me. But at the end of the day it's each to there own.

I've listened to the album all the way through about 4 times now, and it is better than the last one by far, and is certainly their best in a while.
Now I'm just counting down the days til friday =D

i know my opinion is not going to be very popular here, but i'm not going to lie. i'm pretty disappointed with the album so far. i'm in my first listen (up to falling down), but i'm not that impressed. i can see why shock of the lightning and falling down were picked as singles- they're brilliant. i love the production. dave sardy did an amazing job with that and proved the haters wrong. (the little hint of "dear prudence" at the end of "the turning" was a great touch.) i think some of the songs themselves are uninspired and tried to use the amazing production to hide behind it. i did not like "bag it up" or "waiting for the rapture" at all.
i didn't like sotsog either at first, but now it's my favorite record of theirs. it is probably a grower. i will have to see.

I absolutely dig this album. IMO, it is up with DM and WTSMG. I think the album is great. Excellent growth, groove, song writing. I think some of the highlights include The Turning - one of the best songs they've ever written, Get off your High Horse Lady - simply unlike anything they've ever written but it works so well, the slide guitar on I'm Outta Time, and lastly on "To Be Where THere's Life" - the part toward the end where Liam sings "Dig Out your SOOUULLL!!"
Can't wait to see the new stuff live.

Listened to the album the first time yesterday and going back and forth to work today. I waited to hear the album on the release. I felt I ruined the prior two releases a little by jumping the gun.
I had really high expectations for this album. I thought DBTT was brilliant. That cd has not left my car since it was purchased in 05. I listened to it again on Monday. Still awesome. Had the band done a DBTT part 2, I would have been really happy.
Having said all that, I really think Dig Out Your Soul is a spectacular album. It is denser and more grandiose compared to DBTT. For comparisons sake DOYS is Revolver while DBTT is Beggars Banquet. Both great nonetheless. I agree with most on the board that the first half is the strongest. Noel was not kidding when he said Bag it Up was inspired by Baron Saturday. Awesome opening track. I'm Outta Time is the best Oasis ballad in recent years. It makes SCHYO look like amateur hour. I really like the groove of TBWTL and don't mind AGN. I guess the weakest track is Nature of Reality, which is a shame because Andy Bell wrote some great tunes for DBTT. We all know he's got great songs in him but I don't think shoehorning in this track was the best decision. Soldier On is an appropriate album closer. I liked it more than I thought I would considering what I read on the board.
Anybody think that Weller had some influence on Noel this time around. Some of the sounds seemed like they could have been on 22 Dreams. Not a bad thing by any means.

After I've let it marrinade on me for a while Im starting to really like it as a whole project, I reckon in a month or so it could replace BHN in 3rd spot. I'm really happy with this album it's a new sound for them and I like it. It's probably their most coherent album since BHN.
The really good:
Falling down The shock of the lightning The turning Aint got nothing Im outta time Waiting for the rapture Get off your high horse
The good: Soilder on To be where there's life
Ok: The nature of reality Bag it up

WAITING FOR THE RAPTURE
This might be the coolest 'love song' Oasis has ever done. It really clicked with me...it might not SOUND like it's for the ladies...but it actually is. It's one of my girlfriends favorites off the album. I know it's not a lot of peoples favorite tune off the album...but I think it's a really cool tune.
While typical ballads are usually perfect ways to get all sappy....it's nice to hear a RocknRoll song that can say the same thing and just rock.

But then again - I also dig FON and MF, songs people often slag off. But The Noel-sung tunes always seems to grow on me. Except for Magic Pie....

Agreed. I love Mucky Fingers...it's one of my favorite off of DBTT. FON...I'm a bit indifferent on...I like it..don't love it. WFTR seems like the one Noel just hit the nail on the head with...I see it almost as a progression from FN to MF to WFTR.

basically it was about time oasis did another rockin love song its been to long since Slide Away. I'm glad Noel gave us WTFR its heavy and its got one of Noel's best vocals that "I'm tired" bit is top. I love the other version also its so close. You can't compare them cos one is heavy and one is a dreamy little tune. But i love WTFR one of the best Oasis tunes this decade.

DOYS has kind of done the opposite for me. It's wearing then a bit, mainly due to the awkward religious concept in the album that I just can't seem to get outta my head, but nothing drastic. I still like it...
Bag It Up = (Before) 9.0/10 ... (Now) 8.5/10 The Turning = (Before) 10/10 ... (Now) 9.0/10 Waiting For The Rapture = (Before) 8.5/10 ... (Now) 7.5/10 The Shock of the Lightning = (Before) 10/10 ... (Now) 9.5/10 I'm Outta Time = (Before) 7.5/10 ... (Now) 7.0/10 (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady = (Before) 8.0/10 ... (Now) 7.0/10 Falling Down = (Before) 10/10 ... (Now) 9.0/10 To Be Where There's Life = (Before) 9.0/10 ... (Now) 8.0/10 Ain't Got Nothin' = (Before) 6.0/10 ... (Now) 5.0/10 The Nature of Reality = (Before) 8.0/10 ... (Now) 7.0/10 Soldier On = (Before) 7.0/10 ... (Now) 6.5/10

DOYS is their best album since Morning Glory I feel the exact same way. I've been with Oasis since Definitely Maybe was released, and haven't felt this good bout one of their albums in a long time. The Turning is feckin' blinding. Top class Gallaghers.
