Bag It Up and The Turning - Oasis' best moment since Be Here Now? I think so.

I really love the Turning, especially the guitar solo and the chorus following it.

this album is on a class of its own. I was worried Oasis would release something bland and boring, but they let this monster out that's grabbing my balls and making me remember that Oasis is THE best band on the planet. This album shits all over the albums released by the new wave of british bands (AM's, Kasabian... the other bands aren't even worth mentioning in the same breath). I just keep listening to it and finding new interesting things on it.
Noel was wrong when he said the album had no singles. It's FULL of them, and as an album it flows better than any of their other albums

Anyone else have their favorite song switching around? First it was I'm Outta Time, then Bag It Up, not it's The Turning while I have Solider On stuck in my head.

Here ya go: Bag It Up- ridicules drums. very heavy bass driving song. really no chorus to speak of, but this would be the perfect song to open a gig with The Turning- sung by noel, very Full On sounding Waiting for the Rapture- liam sung, again very heavy but with a really slow middle solo part that throws the whole song off The Shock of the Lightning- you've heard the clip, dont expect a "huge" chorus, because there isnt one. theres a more catchy part but no traditional chorus. best single since Hindu Times I'm Outta Time- not the song from the DBTT doc. but songbirdish. acoustic with piano. definitely a single (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady- Liam sung, heaviest song on the album, bigger, faster and harder than my big mouth. the vocals are very similar to "within, without you" Falling Down- noel sung, very pretty, its like idlers dreams big brother. theres drums, guitar, piano and violins in the song To Be Where There's Life- liam sung, best song on the album, imo, its very much like Dont Go Away Ain't Got Nothin- same song as the demo, but you can tell it has been re-recorded. theres a kick ass guitar solo now. liam vocals are much better on this then the demo The Nature of Reality- noel sung, not really into this one, its like she is love on the electric, i didnt get it Soldier On- best liam vocal. its up there with cast no shadow and slide away vocals. its too long of a song though. it starts off acoustic and becomes a huge sing along at the end. aatw like Spot on

Bought the big box, dowloaded the leak. Now here's what I think. Absolutely fine. As Dutchgallagher said, it is deep and wide and, yes, like the Dark Knight, it occupies the mind and is very busy an deep. I've deleted the leak, as I get the drift, the worrisome suspense is over, and I need to hear the real deal on 10/7 here in Seattle. But all I can say is it is NOT DM or WTSMG. And, as of now, I think it is separate but definitely equal with their best. A brave new album. Thanks for asking.

For me this will likely be a grower a la Forth (say what you want about it but I got addicted after a few listens and liked it more with each listen). It doesn't hit me as hard as BHN (which gets tedious, I know, but I love the album overall and especially the first two songs and IGBM). The first two songs of this album rule, as do TSOTL and Falling Down, except for the heebie-jeebies line..ugh...almost as bad as hearing Noel talk about how he's in love with someone else who loves him too during what should have been a GREAT song. I haven't given the second half of the album nearly as much of a listen as the first but I imagine I'll love it over time.

Heavy.
One word descriptor of the record for me. While the latter third of the album sags a bit, I don't think it's the "nose-dive" described by some in these parts.
To be quite honest, I think Noel's use of the word "groovy" couldn't be more appropriate. With the exception of AGN and IOT, every song just flows nearly perfectly together (love ALL of the outros by the way).
Because the majority of the songs are so strong, the production so tight, and the general direction so fresh, I have no qualms at all about putting this in the top 3 oasis canon.

The Good... Bag it Up and The Turning are excellent - they are richly constructed tracks which are bang on the money - The Shock of the Lightning is a good taster for the album\new oasis sound. Falling Down is another track that is a journey track - well constructed with some of Noel's best Vocals. Ain't Got Nothin' - Fairly simple Liam snarrler....
The Bad... Waiting for the Rapture is a b side with an A sides guitar hook. I'm Outta Time - I say bad - it aint bad its just sounds like it should be on one of there older records To Be Where There's Life - not bad groove here - inevitable beatles refrencing... The Nature of Reality - Not a Bad track just does not sound like Oasis... Soldier On - its not like I dont like it it just doesnt really go anywhere - Liam sonds like hes asleep and the playing in bland with a bit of fancy production at the end to make it a little more interesting ( which they tried with DBTT's - Turn Up The Sun and Guess God Thinks I'm Abel.
and the ugly.... (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady - shocking - compare this to the first 2 track - You Cant!!!! its been dressed up with some fancy production to Try and make it sound interesting - its got nothing, the Lyrics have nothing ( i realise at the best of times they dont mean that much) The Tune is mid paced and boring, and the tune\hook is monotonous.

Bag It Up: Instant, took me back, didn't expect such a sudden introduction to the album. Liam and Noels' vocals harmonise perfectly in the first verse. Annoyingly catchy, complete brilliance. In same league as Rock 'n Roll Star as far as first tracks go...The way Liam begins singing, it's almost as if he knows his band are truly back. If any other singer sang "I'm gonna take a walk with the monkey man", it would sound shit, Liam pulls it off...big time.
The Turning: Faded into, dark, mysterious, hypnotic. Balls to the wall rocker. In same style as Gas Panic, enormous roaring tune. Will sound absolutely colossal live. With a sinister undercurrent to the lyrics. Liams vox is incredible, singing with more tone and definition, not just screaming. Noel's backing vocals are again spot on, just how does he sing that highly?
Waiting For The Rapture: Technically a love song, but I like the way Noel's done it. He's kept the rocking momentum going while writing about his girlfriend. Driven by the drum beat, vocals are incredible. Reminds me a bit of TIOBI in terms of structure. But better, definitely better...Great mix of Full On intensity and DBTT rhythm.
Shock Of The Lightning: Starts off at it's peak, grabs you by the balls and doesn't let go for 5 minutes. Bass is incredible, what a tune...only using a few chords! Liam really snarls this out but keeps it clean. No croaky shite so far on this album. One of the few Oasis tunes you could imagine on in a club.
I'm Outta Time: Momentum evaporates into this understated song. Could easily be one of the best Oasis love songs, simplistic lyrics but the melody is insanely good. The piano is magic, and again...Liam's vocals are immense. His best vox on the album, pulling off a falsetto equal to those of Noel. Beats Songbird hands down.
(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady: The first of two Noel tracks in a row. Strange, different...but nonetheless very impressive. "Lay down" "Rain down", again exhibits just how technically brilliant Noel has become at delivering his songs. Not many lyrics, distorted vocals; but a trippy, brilliant tune. Beatlesesque.
Falling Down: Poetic lyrics, fantastic vocals, psychadelic touches throughout. If Noel wanted to show us how far he has come as songwriter this would be his example. What is he talking about? No body can say. An exemplification of the groove feel in this album. Fantastic.
To Be Where There's Life: Hypnotic sitar picking leads into a heavy drum beat with flourishes of electronica. Sounds awesome in words. The reality is a little less fantastic. Despite being Gems best Oasis effort, it struggles to reach the heights of the previous 7 tracks. It is however, a very good song. Superb groove feeling. Liam's roaring of 'Dig Out Your Soul' after the instrumental will give many goosebumps.
Ain't Got Nothin': Infinitely better than the turd demo. Probably the weakest track on the album, but by no means weak in it's own right. Power chords leading into the chorus, Liam really roars this one out, you can almost feel the adrenaline in his words. Noel's backing really gives the edge to this monster. If the swagger was missing from DBTT, HC and SOTSOG, it's well and truly back.
The Nature Of Reality: The beginning sounds like some vintage rock by Led Zeppelin, really heavy. Guitars sound truly, truly awesome. Helter Skelter esque solos throughout. Genius lyrics. Will be looked upon less favourably for being a Andy tune, if this was a Noel tune at the beginning people would be kissing it's ass. Instant, awesome delivery...Liams vocals match the beat of the song so well.
Soldier On: Not an obvious song as a closer, I actually really enjoy this one. Leaves you wanting more, the sign of an awesome album? Liams rising and falling pitch really lends substance to this tune. Again, lyrics aren't the greatest, but the melody is spot on. The harmonica at the end will send shivers up many spines, the 'dubby' effect at the end is a really nice touch.
Conclusion? Fucking. Awesome. I can't get enough of this record. Gonna sound incredible live.

Minor faults with the album -
Very small guitar solo's (1.48 into WFTR) and (2.30 into TNOR) that i feel are wasted as they sound amazing but before you can really get into them they dissapear. It's a shame to hear such tiny solo's escape like that when in my view you could base entire songs just around those hooks.
TNOR - Love the guitars and liams vox but still not sure about the stop start nature of the song.
TBWTL - For me the worst song on the album. Its still a good song but it doesn't really go anywhere or do enough for me to make it a classic or a song i can see myself listening too this time next year.
Major plus points -
Liams voice is fantastic, the way he sings on the first 2 songs are fantastic. Never expected him to sound that way (from listening to the buskers versions i could picture liam snarling those lyrics out yet its really soft and he doesn't strain he just sings the words perfectly)
Solider On - yes it may not go anywhere but again its a great haunting sound, i love the bass and the way liams vox rise and fall. Reminds of Roll It Over.
WFTR, FD, GOYHHL - Probably the best collection of Noel sung songs on a single album.

I don't think you can really appreaciate the album until you listen to it end-to-end. DOYS is definitely not as immediate as the best of their earlier stuff - but give it some time and it easily stands alone as a great album in it'own right,

it grabbed me instantly. I still remember listening to the intro to BIT for teh first time and thinking WTF? This is going to be so much better than I expected... and I was smiling all the way through the first listen.
I'm so happy with this album... it's the best I've heard in many years.

After listening to it several times- its a very solid album start to finish. Compared to the last one? Much better overall album., and I liked it. I loved 2-3 really, thats about it to listen to over and over (Lyla, etc.). Dig out your soul? I can sit and listen to the entire thing. Yes, its a bit groovy, smoke a joint -type, but some real belters too like The Turning, Bag it Up, and Shock of the Lightning. Im interested to hear them live, I think they will be great, but you never know. Im Outta Time is BY FAR Liams best song, its an actual classic great song for years to come (cant believe I am saying that).
How does everyone else think these will sound live?

Colossal. But different, because as Noel said, all the band members can't fit in on each song.
The Turning should sound absolutely incredible.
