I thought it would be nice to have a lyrics thread pinned on this board. So if you were brave enough to decipher the lyrics of Falling Down and The Shock Of The Lightning, you can (must ) post them here

Falling Down The summer sun, It blows my mind, It's falling down on all that I've ever known, Time'll kiss the world goodbye, Falling down on all that I've ever known, Is all that I've ever known. A dying scream, Makes no sound, Calling out to all that I've ever known, Here am I, lost and found, Calling out to all... We live a dying dream, If you know what I mean, All that I've ever known, It's all that I've ever known. Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly, I cried the rain that fills the ocean wide, I tried to talk with God to no avail, Calling my name, and out of nowhere, I said "If you won't save me, please don't waste my time" (Is all that I've ever known...) Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly, I cried the rain that fills the ocean wide, I tried to talk with God to no avail, Calling my name, and out of nowhere, I said "If you won't save me, please don't waste my time" The summer sun, It blows my mind, It's falling down on all that I've ever known, Time'll kiss the world goodbye, Falling down on all that I've ever known, Is all that I've ever known. from: live4ever.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=2008tour&action=display&thread=48332

Both lyrics are a sheding of old self. Ones artful and introspective and the other is forceful and spontaneous. They're virtually the same song.
And Noel says Liam's favourite subject is himself. ;-)

Both lyrics are a sheding of old self because "she's got a cousin, in fact she's got abot a dozen, she keeps one in the oven, but it's nothing to do with me" is brilliant?

In Falling Down, the actual lyric is "catch the wheel that breaks the butterly". Is not "wind".
Is a Noel nick from a bit of poetry. Alexander Pope. "Who breaks a butterly upon a wheel?"

almost positive it's "wheel" .... amazing lyrics in that song Fair enough, maybe it is wheel. Still doesn't make any sense though. Catch the wind that breaks the butterfly is a brilliant fuckin lyric...I'd hate if he ripped it off from a poem. How do you catch a wheel? And how does a wheel break a butterfly? I don't care if he lifts riffs and chords from other people, but your lyrics gotta be original IMO

Ashcroft modified a William Blake poem for the verse lyric of the Verve track 'History'.
I think Noel most likely got the 'break/butterfly/wheel' lyric from what The Times editorial by William Rees-Mogg (quoting Pope) said about Mick Jagger when he was imprisoned in 1967 for minor drugs offences.
Another song on DOYS lyrically references the greatest Beatles book ever Revolution In The Head by Ian MacDonald.

Nah - needs a capo on the 2nd fret. And the chorus is wrong too.

Yeah, more than likely given The Hindu Times and Lyla, I'm personally too lazy to ever bother with 'em though.

Nah - needs a capo on the 2nd fret. And the chorus is wrong too. The song is in key of B. Verse is B - Bminor. If you play an Am chord with a capo on the second fret, it's a Bm. Get it?

Don't patronise me, mate. I've been playing guitar for four years and I posted an accurate depiction of the chords about 40 minutes ago.

Ashcroft also took most of the first verse of 'Love is Noise' from Blake but it sounds amazing. If Noel changes something and makes it sound colossal i have no problem with that.

Nah, he sort of half-borrowed a couple of lines. Nothing close to what he did on History. That was practically out-and-out plagiarism.
