Not really. It's meant to be a lyrics thread; it's just gone slightly off-topic.

almost positive it's "wheel" .... amazing lyrics in that song Fair enough, maybe it is wheel. Still doesn't make any sense though. Catch the wind that breaks the butterfly is a brilliant fuckin lyric...I'd hate if he ripped it off from a poem. How do you catch a wheel? And how does a wheel break a butterfly? I don't care if he lifts riffs and chords from other people, but your lyrics gotta be original IMO Is the same thing he did in Go Let It Out: the whole "Is it any wonder that princes and kings / Are clowns that caper in their sawdust rings" section is nicked from an old poem, almost word for word.

The first time I read the lyrics I was like "what a fuck does a wheel have to do with a butterfly?", but instantly I remember this song!! But still it doesn't explain what's up with wheels and butterflies

The butterfly and wheel bit was also used in a famous article written about Jagger and Keef getting jail time in the late 60s for a drug bust.

Rivers splash away the waves Seeping in through my existence Is there something to believe in? Something to believe in When there's nothing else To light your way?
How can the darkness be satiated When there's nothing but faded stars? Faces cracked, broken to a crawl Do you believe in something? I believe in all
In the way things could be I see That there is much more out there Much more than simply you and me
Reaching out, my hands are shaking Groping, fighting the demons making Earth on the hell And with heaven watching They will prey On the ones who have lost their way
(All, All, All) x 3
The night is deafening my call Something, anything I will believe in all
(All, All, All) x6

Isn't it probably "blinding light" instead of "binding" light?

Isn't it probably "blinding light" instead of "binding" light? I thought it sounds like blinding too.

In Falling Down, the actual lyric is "catch the wheel that breaks the butterly". Is not "wind". Is a Noel nick from a bit of poetry. Alexander Pope. "Who breaks a butterly upon a wheel?" I'm pretty sure it's wind. Wheel doesn't make any sense...How does a wheel break a butterfly? "Who breaks a butterfly upon a wheel?" is a quotation – sometimes misquoted with "on" in place of "upon" – from Alexander Pope's "Epistle to Dr Arbuthnot" of January 1735. The line has entered common use and has become associated with more recent figures. It can be taken as referring to putting massive effort into achieving something minor or unimportant, and alludes to "breaking on the wheel", a form of torture in which victims had their long bones broken by an iron bar while tied to a cartwheel

Both lyrics are a sheding of old self because "she's got a cousin, in fact she's got abot a dozen, she keeps one in the oven, but it's nothing to do with me" is brilliant? Calm down - that's not a critiscism of the lyric - it's an analysis of the meaning. Also, wouldn't it be "so God-speed to the sound of the pounding" in TSOTL?

I think in a way the song itself kind of enjoys and even thrives itself in pushing the boundaries of meaningless. Much like songs like Some Might Say. I enjoy it immensely

Actually, it might be, "So God, speak to the sound of the pounding." I could be wrong, though.
