But has anybody ever noticed that Noel even rips off his own songs? There's Wonderwall and DYKWIM, the chord progression is exactly the same! And then theres DLBIA and The Masterplan - the chords in the chrous' of these songs are identical. And the intro to Supersonic sounds very similar to the intro to Listen Up. I'm sure theres lots more. Any thoughts?

I was shocked the first time I heard the demo of songbird...
Melody is EXACTLY like 'I should've Known Better' by The Beatles... even now when I hear the regular version I can still detect it a bit in the background...
prolly why they reworked it for the album...

At this stage though every song you hear on the radio has nicked it's melody or riff or whatever from something older. The best songwriters are those that can hide it IMO.

these threads wreck my head more than any. Every band from U2 to Coldplay have ripped off older bands. Oasis have been slagged more than other because Noel has been open about. Cigs & Alc, Shakermaker all classics in their own right

I get what you're saying, but anyone who plays guitar knows how many songs have the C/G/Am/F chord progression, with DLBIA being a slight variation, since Noel throws in the E chord after the Am.
No disrespect to the OP, since he does make some valid points, but talking about chords is meaningless...its really the melody which can be used to sue for copyright infringement. And of course, Noel has been sued(?) for that as well, a couple times.
In fact, John Fogerty (singer/songwriter for american band CCR) was sued for copying HIMSELF! He won the case.

"All I ever wanted to do was make a record. Here's what you do: you pick up your guitar, you rip a few people's tunes off, you swap them round a bit, get your brother in the band, punch his head in every now and again, and it sells. I'm a lucky bastard. I'm probably the single most lucky man in the world - apart from our Liam." -Noel Gallagher

My favorite is that he ripped off The Masterplan in Lyla and HE doesn't even know it... "And Cast Your Words Away Upon The Waves" is the exact same as "And Catch The Silver Sunlight In Your Hands"

Book Of Rules by The Heptones
Isn't it strange how princesses and kings In clown-ragged capers in sawdust rings While common people like you and me We'll be builders for eternity Each is given a bag of tools A shapeless mass and the book of rules
sound familiar?
