I thought the charts weren't an accurate measure of biggest band? That IS what you've been saying, is it not?

Once again, Oasis are pop rock too. They have alot of pop elements in their music, especially their melodies. As far as the Foo Fighters, I can't speak for the rest of the world but you're 100% wrong to say they're not bigger than Oasis in the US because they def are Comparing these 2 albums bc both came out in 2005, so it's a fair assessment Foo Fighters' In Your Honor (2005): The band's fifth album, In Your Honor was released in 2005. "Best of You" achieved the band's highest certifications for a single, earning platinum status in the US and Canada. Skin and Bones, a live album with videos, debuted at number twenty-one in the US, selling about 49,000 copies in its first weekOasis' Don't Believe the Truth (2005): The album entered the U.S. charts at #12, with 65,000 albums sold in the first week, the highest any Oasis album has reached there since 1997's Be Here Now. 65,000 > 49,000. Eat shit. Thats their live album. Throw that one out. Look at the last three studio releases. Live albums by any band rarely sell, thats why theres not more of them. One X One, In Your Honor, and Echoes all DESTROYED DBTT, HC, and SOTSOG.

You basically just compared their version of Familiar to Millions with DBTT you moron

Here's yet another paradox for you all to explain
How is Miley bigger than Oasis, but more people care about Oasis than her?
You keep creating these exceptions - bigger doesn't mean better, etc...I guess bigger doesn't mean caring then either?
So if you're a "big" band but no one cares about you, what are you left with exactly? (Read: If you're Miley Cyrus and get the odd radio hit more than Oasis, but people actually care about Oasis going to their concerts, etc then how exactly can Miley be considered bigger? How can she be bigger if she's less cared about?)
*Note, Miley is just being used an example here.

COMMMERCIALLY BIGGER -- Oasis cant even compare AT THIS MOMENT to them.
It has nothing to DO with "caring", or "best", or "opinion".
The biggest band in the world does not mean best, its a measurable component based on commercial appeal. Record sales, ticket sales, radio play, ALL play into this. Oasis are at best a drop in the bucket in the US these days. The other bands we've mentioned are all MASSIVE in the US. This fact alone means it matters. Do you realize you can combine Japan, the UK and mainland Europe and you still wont match the amount of records sold in the US on a yearly basis?
Miley Cyrus has been in the public eye for what? 3 years at most? Shes a billionaire during that time with all the cross promotion crap she does. She shouldnt even have been brought up. Obviously, theres a huge segment of the population (kids and their parents) that care for her stuff.
Oasis are not the BIGGEST band in the world anymore, I would put them in the top 10, but near the bottom of that top 10. Foo Fighters, RHCP, Coldplay, U2, Radiohead (named in no particular order) and Im positive theres others that can be named are all bigger. It doesnt mean best. It means that theres a lot of OTHER PEOPLE who care enough about them to get them to that point. Thats not just taking the US into consideration. All of those bands are massive anywhere they go. Like them or not, obviously theres plenty of people who do care for them.

Uhh... not to jump in on your little back-and-forth here Bennyboy, but you didn't read all the news about the 60+ sold-out NBA-sized arenas that Miley Cirus played last year across North America? The tickets going for thousands on eBay? Seems to me enough people care about going to her concerts.

get a fuckin grip comparing miley cyrus with the biggest band of the last 20 years!!yeh oasis dont sell as many albums as what they did although ive a feelin this is gona change with the new cd!but they still sell more tickets than any of them bands inc coldplay who if i remember didnt sell out there us tour an couldnt even sell out there only uk stadium show at the bolton reebok a few years back.coldplays appeal is to a wider audience ,for fucks sake grandmas an grandads buy there cds aswell as kids.an radiohead are not bigger than oasis, they release there albums when no one else does just like coldplay have this time round.no one says anything about this record not gonna sell as many as there last few.foo fighters are only just starting to get recognition worldwide as there releasing some mainstream stuff.an also oasis worldwide success gets hidden by the media an awful lot as they never kissed there arse when the media was all over them an they then set in a backlash.but they seem to be winning over the critics an media again an im sure were ready for a 2nd surge just like greenday have had.just remember people which band in the last 15 years have sold over 50 million albums?65 million records in total?played to around 10 million people?fastest selling record in uk history?8 mill album sales in the states?may not seem alot in the states but not bad for a band thats not CRACKED IT!!theyve won numerous awards worldwide?knebworth anyone?youll start to see oasis getting the status they deserve in the states from the album onwards cos theyll remember all there great albums but will also now know that theyve matured an this will help massively

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are by far the best and biggest band in the world right now, maybe in history of rock. Concert sales should count...

I think now people are arguing what BIGGER means. I thing most people would say BIGGER means mass appeal and commercial standing. BIGGER does NOT mean talented/worthy. In the US, there are a lot of acts that are BIGGER than Oasis, but few if any (opinion) are better than Oasis. Miley Cyrus might currently be BIGGER than Oasis, but she is nowhere near as talented as Oasis.
The sad reality is in the US there is a lot of crap music that is marketed brilliantly. The US is great at polishing a turd!

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THIS THREAD!? This Coldplay Vs. Oasis stuff is horrific... I thought I might check this thread to see if there's any Oasis updates and I got pages of people arguing about Coldplay and Backstreet Boys. Start an Oasis vs. Coldplay THREAD so I can ignore it. I second that.

UK wise, Oasis rule, same with Japan and most of Europe
I don't give a toss how popular Oasis are, we all love them and we all know how fucking brilliant they are.
That's good enough for me

Coldplay, by any reasonable standard is unequivocally, undeniably and indisputably the world's most "popular" band right now.
Album sales, concert revenues, merchandising, and media space are unbelievably accurate indicators as to an act's "bigness". They rule them all in DOZENS of global regions.
It's not even close.
It has absolutely nothing to do with their "artistic validity".
Stop being obtuse for the sake of being obtuse and argue more salient points like: the importance of such a designation anyway.
It's really as meaningless as it was when Oasis ruled the roost in 96-97.
It really, really, REALLY, is.

Where i currently am, i'm 4 hours ahead of the UK, so it's lively enough on here. When I get bored/want to slack off, i just come on here and read or post. - Fuck it, that's what they get for giving me an internship that's unpaid - no incentive to work lol
