You have to be a hardcore fan to like DBTT. It lacks effort and very uninspiring disagree there. lots of critics liked it too. i think you have to be hardcore to like HC. piece of crap. DBTT got mediocre reviews. One of my favorite lines from Pitchfork: "Liam Gallagher now sounds like a singing anti-smoking campaign, and the brash, snotty arrogance that once sold "Cigarettes and Alcohol" and "Champagne Supernova" is crushed out by his gruffness." So true. The man can't sing worth a damn anymore.

Nearly everywhere else it was regarded as a return to form.

Then again, Heathen Chemistry got a 55 (which is terrible).

You have to be a hardcore fan to like DBTT. It lacks effort and very uninspiring You're entitled to your opinion, so if you don't like DBTT, that's fine. But if you do hate it, you're damn wrong of the reasons. Uninspiring? Lacks effort? I dont think so. TIOBI and POTQ are one of Noel's finest efforts. "Every beginning has broken its promise" is one of Noels best ever written lines, ever. Lyla and KTDA alive are typical Oasis, very similar to Roll With It and Stand By Me respectively. LLAB is a lovely spring/summer time tune, and explodes into a nice melody when the piano kicks in MOS is packed with energy and attitude and is a great song to play when you're pissed off. GGTIA is not my fav Liam tune, but the "no one can take us/no can break us" part is fantastic MF and LTBL aren't my fav tunes, and are one of the weakest on DBTT, but they both have great lyrics. I'm not a fan of ABWR though, too preachy. So 3 mediocre songs, and the rest of the album is genius. You may not like it, but def not for the reasons you listed. I like TUTS,IOBI,POTQ and LTBL but the rest are horrid. Mucky Fingers is just noise. Lyla, though is fun live does not really flow well on the studio version LLAB - while had a good melody the lyrics make me cringe.. MOS - is alright, nothing great GGTIA - one line says it all about this song "You could be my railroad, we'd go on and on" ABWR and KTDA are both flat and boring.

I also felt the songs were not for Liam to sing. They seemed to really expose his voice even on the record itself

You have quoted just two websites, one of which is known to be shit (pitchfork). In the British press and media it was well recieved. And even on megacritic it is listed as 'generally favorable reviews' not mediocre. You are doing your own sources a disservice.

I also felt the songs were not for Liam to sing. Turn Up The Sun = ACE. Lyla = better for his contribution. Love Like A Bomb = spot on. The Meaning Of Soul = suits the track down to the ground. Guess God Thinks I'm Abel = best tune on the album. ACE. A Bell Will Ring = ACE. Keep The Dream Alive and Let There Be Love could perhaps have been better, but apart from that? Quality. Frankly, I think everyone's fucking nitpicking.

The fact of the matter is Oasis are not the media darlings they once were. They're a veteran band. They've been marked irrelevant by most of the hip music magazines. Most reviews are too tough on them, but some of the criticism is justified.
But if this new album is as different as everyone is claiming, you can expect to see better reviews, even if the songs aren't of high quality. The band is changing their sound, approach, whatever. A constant criticism of the band is that they do the same shit every album, and it seems the band is trying something new, expanding their sound. We'll see.

Yeah i know that, still not mediocre as in generally favorable as the site itself puts it, and if you look at the top scores i think theres a few british reviews there. As in well recieved in the British press. I would like to know what genre the sites giving it a low score lean to. Are you american?

DBTT was ok, nothing astounding but a shit load better then HC and it had top tunes on it - IOBI springs to mind, i think everyone will agree. This next album i think will be mega. Every review (if thats what we care about) so far has said its their best since their top 90s form. So come on oasis. I rekon theyr gunna blow everyone away

I know what you mean saying changes most of the time make good critics but i dont think dont believe the truth is the same shit the had always done, i think the approach of th songs was different, at least from noels part, maybe the rest of the band did sound as always, but if you see noel's contributions apart from LTBL... all are totally fresh approach to what he has done even Lyla is not the conventional oasis hit song.

Fucking newbies. They just don't get it. It's getting crowded in here... If someone starts comparing albums as in"DBTT was no DM" I'm gonna lose my mind. What is wrong with you people - DBTT was an exciting album in that it marked a turning point for the band, and formed the foundation for DOYS. Love it or hate it, it was more focused, better produced and the was the first time in a long time when all band members actually had fun in the studio. And after all, every critic outside the UK loves to bash Oasis just because they're Oasis - the quality of the album is irrelevant to them...

Thanks for that, was waiting for someone to post that up Doesn't sound like too much at the moment, gotta give the whole thing a listen before making any judgements. Though it does sound like a return to rock and roll roots after the acoustic driven DBTT

You can't really go by what critics say because they do bash Oasis because alot of them think they are assholes. The Killers are actually starting to get a similar reputation but since they are american, the America media will take it much easier on them.
But I would never back up my opinions due to other people's reviews. Even if both the reviews and myself liked the album, it doesn't matter. They all have different agendas.
Personally, I do think DBTT was a good step in the right direction. But DOYS seems like it's going to be really good and as long as it's better than DBTT than I'll be happy . . .

If you're going by Metacritic's definition it's "Generally favorable" and, considering a 60% itself is a 3/5 which is considered good by nearly any site or website that uses such ratings, then yes it is good. But I see you're going by your own made up definition, which I suppose if fine if you want to convince yourself something about DBTT's quality or try to justify your opinion in your own world.

It bothers me how the expectations and standards have been lowered so dramatically. The band have become a parody of themselves. From Liam's goofy voice to Noel's proclamations that every album since 'Be Here Now' is "the best since Definitely Maybe". It's become a worse joke than Chinese Democracy. Always building up high expectations, only to see them crumble when the actual product hits the shops (or interwebs as it were).
