Never seen that. You forget how good Kris is because he doesn't perform that often.

Saw the new documentary last night on HBO. Wow, that was really good. Raw, emotional, and intense. Love had too much involvement, but that's a slight negative. Definitely worth seeing.

Finally watched it last night . Thought the first hour was really good. The cartoon with the audio of him telling a story about a mentally disabled girl and what happened to him because of what he did was the highlight of the movie for me. The scene where he is high as a kite holding the baby was really sad. I know they used a lot of his artwork in the film but at times it was difficult to tell what was his and what was made for the movie. Too much naked Courteney. The ending was a little abrupt but a powerful movie about mental illness.

Did Kurt actually narrate these scenes (like the mentally disabled girl one) or was it some clever computer jazz. I ask because they are word for word exactly the same as the extracts you see handwritten in 'Kurt's Journals' and how they are vocally delivered. Did Kurt actually ever tape himself reading out his journals??

I thought the whole thing was good except it showed too many home movies with Courtney in them. I can only stand her for a couple minutes.

Did Kurt actually ever tape himself reading out his journals?? all were pulled from tapes. Kurt had 1,000's of tapes. Obviously tapes are enhanced to a better quality. You can't fake his voice and a lot of surprised interviews. Seeing Kurt's father is shocking to honest with you. Nirvana fans for decades never heard or seen him in a interview.

I liked the movie to certain points. I didn't like how Courtney wrote it. A lot of music concert clips in for fillers. Pat Smear and Dave never appeared in the movie. Pat was with Kurt in Rome was well. You think have him in the movie speaking about it be important. I think Courtney liked having her tits on the big screen for large amount of time too.

Watched the 'Cobain Montage Of Heck' film documentary. Fuck me it was sad.
Mixed opinions on it. Visually it was great. Seeing some of Cobain's artwork , noodlings and rambles come to life was very good. I actually liked the abstract style and abrupt editing. It was actually very Cobain-esque in that respect and some did remind of "Live Tonight Sold Out" (indeed there was fair bit of live footage what was in that in that). There was however lot of demos and shit i hadn't heard before. Who would have guessed "Breed" was written on an acoustic? I thought it was really well made film in general. It really was a montage of being bombarded by Cobain film , tape , music , rambles , diaries etc
However i did not need to see so much clearly very personal home video stuff of Kurt & Courtney at home. I felt like a fucking voyeur at times. Did i really need to see Courtneys tits ? Or a semi naked Cobain off his face with Courtney . Infact the last third of the film did a disservice to the first two thirds of film. Dnno whether that was intentional or not.
Interviews were very sparse and to be honest not that revealing. I had to sigh when Courtney said she was "thinking" of cheating on Cobain. Its well known she did.
There was way too much Kurt & Courtney stuff.
I would have liked more Krist interview to be honest.
Noticeable how there was not even a single mention of ppl like Tobi Vail ( a girlfriend of Kurt's when most of Nevermind was written)
Despite what the director Brett Morgen said there was not much that people familiar with Cobain would have learned that didn't already know. A funny , irritating , clever idiot who was very ambitious despite slacker reputation and just was bit always damaged , had a shit time growing up and got ill. Perhaps always was ill.
Cobain's mother and father interviews just sort of confirm that in a slightly cringey way. I didn't like the tone of film that somehow suicide was inevitable.
Its a good film though. Think even people who don't like Nirvana would enjoy it possibly (or least first two thirds of it) . I liked how abstract it was in places.

Yeah, definitely not good.

If the 2 were to meet, the sheer enormity of their combined bullshit would buckle the entire universe and leave nothing but an empty void filled with nothing except the nasal cries of Billy Corgan and Liam Gallagher repeating the phase 'D'You Know What I Mean?' forever. ...........

Thank the lord for Steve Albini. Butch Vig would have butchered this one. Theres a cool bit in the film that is played in (very loud) with a montage of some of Cobain's artwork and noodlings at same time. Works really well. As said there are parts of 'Montage Of Heck' documentary that are very good.

Agree about Albini btw. In Utero is weirdly ageless / timeless soundwise. Think because it is literally just a band mic'd up and recorded in a room. No real use of digital gear of the time or much FX. Same applies to quite a few Albini produced records of late 80s and early 90s like Surfer Rossa , Breeders first album , Jesus Lizard Goat , PJ Harveys Rid Of Me. Those records don't really date soundwise.

Is Montage of Heck worth paying for? I know that sounds awful... It's streaming on Sky Box Office, so it costs a couple quid. My brother's coming round to watch some films so I thought we could watch that, but I've had mixed reviews from people about it. I'm a huge Nirvana fan, he's more of a casual fan, so dunno if I should pay for it now or wait and watch it when it's free in a couple months
