Barbaric doesn't sound like Strokes at all, it is like something from Now Now, just another Damon's song for Ariel commercial. Like Humility and stuff like that but worse.

Blur is great but look at that 5/5 stars review 🤣 I don't think, actually I am sure that members of the band wouldn't give 5 stars to themselves. I don't understand these rave reviews either. The answer lies in it being reviewed by white middle age middle class people.

I'm white middle age middle class, and wouldnt have rated it 5/5 Ìt's more than that, Damon has lots of friends in the industry so nothing he does can be criticized really. He's the "intellectual" musician from the britpop era. He's basically untouchable at this point, like Bowie in the past. It's more about influence and leverage than skin color or class. Just like no one will ever say a Beyonce or Jay Z or Coldplay record is shit. Too much influence from those people. The editor will just pick the right reviewer for it otherwise the record label will make the publication's life difficult after that (for exclusives, interviews... etc) People should just stop reading reviews anyway.

What planet are you living on?! Coldplay albums have been getting rubbish reviews for ages (primarily because they are now). But even their best albums got reluctant praise.

I think the record is great. It flows beautifully and isn't too long. I can see why you'd compare this to 'This is Hardcore'. It also reminds me of the new Arctic Monkeys album. But this is just miles better in my opinion. Also I hear a lot of other influences, like Love, Procol Harum and Wire etc. Think this might actually be my favorite Blur album

It's beautiful music but it touches my soul as little as Leonard Cohen does - that means practically not at all.

Anyway, coldplay got pretty good reviews overall, up until the last one who got worse rewiews. I say Good reviews in the sense that theirs albums have been shit since the seconde one. That’s 20 years of false positive reviews. What i’m saying is basically those acts get good press because they sell papers… well now, clicks. And behind clicks, affiliate links. I could have said Foo Fighters or Taylor Swift. Or anyhting that will attract large crowds at festivals and outdoor gigs. Blur is now in this category. It wasnt the case in the 90s, even Damon admitted it in a recent interview. I received the CD with the Two bonus tracks, review to come ! (It’s still not in the samea league as this is Hardcore, stop it ! )

funny thing, i cant find my Cd player wtf.
Anyway they are on youtube
The Swann sounds like the rest of the record. But maybe a bit better than a couple of tracks
the Lennon-ish The Swann
The Rabbi should have been on the record too.
Sticks and Stone from the Japanese version (Graham Vocals)
All 3 would have made the album better...

Madness to leave out those tracks out of the final tracklist. The Swann especially, what a great song. Maybe too personnal ?
My tracklist
1. "The Ballad" 2. "St. Charles Square" 3. "Barbaric" 4. "Russian Strings" 5. "The Everglades (For Leonard)" 6. "The Narcissist" 7. "The Rabbi" 8. "Avalon" 9. "The Swan" 10. "Sticks and Stones" 11. "The Heights"
Makes you wonder what the other 7 tracks that were recorded but left out sound like. Blur did a Noel Gallagher here. Wrong tracklist.
Funny too that Damon hated america for so many years yet the Heights sounds like the ending sound of every college movie for the early 00s.

Tough crowd
To me the best song is the Swann but it's not on the record.
They've grown considerably older in 7 years. Just watched back to back the documentary for the Magic Whip and then today, it's like they're 20 years older.

Nice interview

Yeah that's the interview i was refering to. They look fuckin old. Guess like Noel, pandemic didn't help the rockstars... damon and alex especially have aged badly. Rowentree still looks like 1995 though, but he was already old then. Graham in the middle.
Yeah the album gets better and better. Well it is better with the 3 bonus tracks. Maybe missing one or two classic "blur" tracks but who knows, maybe another batch of release is on the plan, even though Damon said the other 7 are in the recycled bin.
Good sign is that i look forward to listen to it again.

I don't know how to explain it properly but you can get old in many different ways but they have all aged in the same way, if you know what I mean 😁

Alex James even lost a teeth and not replaced it to look like Damon. It's crazy to watch Graham when he talks (or tries to talk) to Damon. Like a scared little brother waiting for the ultimate approval. AT 54 !

But it's the treadmill that would shave a few years off them all though! Saying that, of all acts who reach their 50s, Liam and Noel look surprisingly good!

The whole album has grown on me a lot. At first only the first 4 songs were doing much for me and then I thought it dropped in quality considerably. On repeated listens I have come to the conclusion that it's up there with their best work but just very different, which is a good thing IMO. Making an album like Parklife or 13 wouldn't be a reflection of where they are now. It's a beautiful album with depth that fits a certain mood.

It's definitely not it for me. But again when I think about it I only like Blur's "English" period (Leisure to the Great Escape) so I guess I only really like britpop as a genre and not Blur as a band
