Oh I get that lack of evidence for most of these, but talking to underage fans by DM is dodgy. Even if there's nothing explicit, it's when alarm bells start ringing. Seems Coxon has been at that for years, since the MySpace days. He's my favourite guitar player for my favourite band from a music perspective...but that won't cloud the fact some of his online behaviour has been suspect. I was basically a young teenager those days, and knew a lot of girls my age in London where I was that used to knock around the indie scene at the time and there was a lot of ropey behaviour between adults and minors. I know for sure Graham Coxon was always messaging young girls then, whether he knew if they were of legal age or not, I can't say. But it would've been evident by the pics they were teenagers. At the time, because I was young, you don't really think a great deal about it because I was out going to gigs and it was an every day thing to see teenagers at gigs then talking to musicians, there wasn't a huge amount of separation between artists and bands then. But looking back now, there was a lot of dark and creepy behaviour going on. Again, I can't say Coxon has done anything illegal, but I can say I know 100% in those days he was always chatting with teenagers online. So make of that what you will. I don't know if he's still doing that, I never really thought about the past until this thread. Thanx for your comment. As you said we dont know what he did do or didnt do. I doubt this behavior is uncommon in the music business, or any show business. Young girls are easy prey for musicians. That said the legal age for sex in the UK is 16. Its young, very young indeed (too young i think, there should be an added rule about age of the "older" partner really... buts that's another debate). but legal. + he's got a song about that called Spectacular... so its no surprise there that he likes to "hunt" on the computer. When i was 16, my crush dated a 29 years old guy. They are now married and have 3 girls together. Its all disturbing yet there are stories like that. I dont really know where the cursor should be.

And most other Arctic Monkeys records. And he's doing Blur – The Ballad of Darren (2023) Should be a good one

The Narcissist is ok I guess, not that great for a 8 years plus comeback single, I had to listen to it again today to remember the melody.

I tried to watch a bit of the Primavera performance in Barcelona, but it sounded pretty bad to me - gave up after Tracy Jacks.

So clear strings drums and piano on The Car compared to the muffled soup that is CS 🥸

It's a bloody belter. Love the Bowie-isms, the guitar tone, the 60s garage shouts in the chorus (can't really phrase it better but you know what I mean) the bass, everything is killer.
I hope the album is more St Charles Square than The Narcissist

Going to see them this Saturday. I try to avoid setlist.fm because I want to be surprised. No idea what they’ll play (apart from a few more obvious cuts) but I’d love to hear Trim Trabb or Sing.

Hyped for this album, The Magic Whip was a bit underwhelming and I ended up not listening to it that much, but I like the direction they're going for with this one. Even the cover artwork makes it feel like a classic.

Weird record. Sounds like everything else but Blur : Strokes, Bowie, Coxon Solo, Albarn Solo, whatever.
Only one listen though so far.

Well they fooled us : Classic logo, Classic 90s Blur cover image, one very Blur sounding single. But the rest of the record isn't classic Blur at all. It's all but that. The Ballad - Long overdue, from the 2003 Albarn demos. It's fine ! Sounds a bit like a cross between Bowie and Arctic Monkeys (The New Ones everyone seem to hate). St Charles Square - Probably the "blur-est" / "Coxon-est" song on the record. Barbaric - This one could have fit on later days Strokes records. What a strange sound for Blur. Growing on me slowly. Probably the next single, if there is one. Russian Strings - Well this one sounds a bit like Albarn solo records. Great subtle piano and some nice twist. Maybe a song that he writes too much these days, but the other three makes it interesting. Especially Coxon's guitar obviously. I feel a grower though. The Everglades (For Leonard) - Well this one sounds like... the Magic Whip. Kind of a filler. The Narcissist - We know this one. It's a great song really. Goodbye Albert - meh meh, another Albarn's wandering melody that don't really go anywhere. Don't really like the production on this one. another filler. Far Away Island - Albarn solo record material again. Don't really know what to say about this one. It's OK. Sounds a bit like the previous songs. Again, Coxon's guitar saves the day. Avalon - Motown-esque production with a Bowie-esque chorus. Yeah hum yeah, maybe a grower ? Alex Turner does it better The Heights - anecdotic melody pumped up to be a closer. Another one that doesn't really go anywhere but as an interesting production. Early verdict: very strong start for that record, then it drags a bit I thought. Was expecting something a bit more grandiose, but I guess Damon doesn't have it in him anymore : his melodies are all a bit samey these days. Maybe a shocking opinion, but after a few listens, i rate The Waeve higher than this record. Albarn has lost something along the way (maybe due to his personal life) while Coxon has progressed immensely as a songwriter. I'm glad this exists though, but yeah at first, a bit of a letdown ! There's another 2 bonus tracks that could be interesting, we'll see.

So far - I don't like that Damon sings every song in the same way, he sings every song so far like "Melancholy Hill".
But he mentioned Belgrade now, staying here, going to museums and that is all I needed - 10/10 album 😁

This is so average and without any real effort and it comes from great songwriter and great band, that I was thinking is there something that I don't understand?
Is it me, is this some new style, are they moving forward and I don't get it?
It all sounds like uninspired b sides of b sides but then again, they are one of the greateast bands of the 90s, they probably know better than I do and know more about music.
Should I listen again, this time more carefully? I got the same feeling like I had with Noel's new record.
I decided to play some classic record and compare it, obviously I don't expect Blur record to be as good as one of the best albums of all time but just to see are they anywhere near in terms of quality.
Maybe I don't understand new style of Blur but it is still quality record?
Ok, so let's play some record which style I don't like that much but I know that it is pure quality.
Let's play Pet Sounds.
And after like 30 seconds, everything was clear to me. Yes, no need to wonder, Blur's new album is just pure uninspired shit.
1.5/10

Listen to the last Strokes record, Barbaric fits right in there. Or the EP before that. Not the "Classic" early sound of the strokes.
I agree with you although i'm not that harsh. First half is pretty good without being groundbreaking. The second half really lets the record down.
i don't know what they were trying to do with this record, maybe just have fun for themselves. Some songs do sound like Damon trying to sound "modern" but running out of ideas. As i said before, I think he's producing too much music and should get away a bit from music. He says he write everyday. Maybe he souldn't.
Probably the first Blur album since "Modern Life" that doesn't sound like Blur trying new things and still being Blur, with their own identity. I'd say it's a record without identity. It's kind of a best of of their influences mixed with a modern-ish sound.
I enjoy it, but was expecting much much more to be honest. Graham has the crown now, Damon's lost it a bit.
