Although I've never been a Blur fan there's one song which I don't mind by them and that's There's No Other Way. I've never hated it like I do with most of their songs.

There is no difference between early Oasis and Blur, in 1991 they were the same band, so no reason to hate π

I was a big fan of Blur 10 years ago, got all their albums and listened to all of them. But I slowly realised I stopped listening to them and I haven't listened to them for years.
I don't know why, nothing of theirs resonates anymore. There's some bands you grow out of and some that stay with you eternally, Blur must be the former.

Admittedly Im a bigger fan of Blur than I was as a kidβ¦.i got into Oasis in 2002 with Heathen Chemistry, and obvs Blur released nothing from 2003 to 2015. Until about 2009 I only knew Thereβs No Other Way, Girls & Boys, Parklife, Country House and Song 2. It was basically after Oasis split that I started to explore both Blur and Pulp more, becoming a proper fan in doing so.
But its taste after all; if we all liked the same the world would be dull as sh*t.

I became fan after watching that Hyde Park gig from 2009 from No Distance Left to Run DVD.
Everything is so different live and you start to understand how good songs and they are.
I think that they fucked up their recordings, they should just turn everything up to 11, just like Oasis did...
Just compare this
to this
And that is not even good example because studio version of Girls And Boys is not that slow and song without energy but that is the only song from 2009 gig that I can find on youtube.
Chemical World, for example, is completely different song live.

Chemical World, for example, is completely different song live. This sort of thing is very subjective, but also...it's kind of hard to replicate how you play a song while thousands of people are yelling your lyrics back to you 30 years on while you're alone in a studio without anyone having heard the song in the first place. Tons and tons of artists play 'heavier' or 'faster' live while they're feeding off the energy of the crowd than they do in the studio or practicing or what have you. It doesn't mean they screwed up their recordings or that they even would have wanted them to sound that way in the first place. Also, I'm pretty sure many, many Britons of a certain age would disagree with you on that point about their records, especially Parklife.

Maybe.
But also Damon said, when he was asked who was better Oasis or Blur, that he thinks Oasis were better because he thinks they were better at communicating who they were.
And I think that he was talking about the same thing as me. Blur were not as soft as they sound on their record and true Blur is what you hear when you listen them live.
But I might be wrong, that is how I understood his statement.

I think this especially applies to Definitely Maybe, the DM b-sides like Listen Up/Cloudburst etc and some of the acoustic ones like Talk Tonight. Ive always said with DM that you almost feel like youre at a Manchester club hearing them play it live. Whereas albums like Parklife and The Great Escape are a bit more studiofied. The time they probably got closest to communicating on record was the 1997 s/t album. As its so much more raw.

The time they probably got closest to communicating on record was the 1997 s/t album. As its so much more raw. It depends where you live really. For me it was both. Oasis was the raw England and Blur was the fantasy version of England, something that continued the spirit of the 60s, the goofyness of the Avengers TV series... stuff like that. Of course it was probably different if you were English back then. But for me, records like Parklife or the Great Escape was a way of daydreaming England when there was no other way to discover it. both served a different purpose, both equally important. Damon should be proud of the trilogy Modern/Parklife/Escape. It had a big impact on people, more than he can imagine. It captured the spirit of the time.

Like it, but it doesn't really have a chorus. And after a while the backing voice repeating the final words of the phrase gets repetitive.

I thought the majority of Magic Whip was great. The singles certainly sounded like singles, this doesn't. Excited for a new album though.

Wow, they kept that secret. Produced by James Ford too.
Damon's a bit dreary these days so can only hope this has a bit more spark to it than output in recent years (probably the last song I loved from him was Under The Westway).

Well Ford slipped a couple months back to Rolling Stone or something. Itβs been a heavy rumor.

Sounds more like a Damon solo track, i enjoy it, but let's wait for the rest of the record. More hyped than the NG one sadly I kinda miss the 90s blur though, the ones with silly and not moody tracks. But big year for Blur fans : a new album and that Waeve record from Graham which is simply mind-blowing fantastic.

I've tried but I couldn't care less about the new song, it's typical uninspired stuff by a bunch of guys who haven't made anything of any note for years. Can't help but watch that Girls & Boys and Country House video and be so glad that Oasis came and bulldozed all that preening and posing.
I liked them a lot a decade back but revisiting their albums doesn't spark any renewed interest for me bar some tracks.
Maybe it's the band members that put me off in time. David Cameron's mate, Graham Creepy Coxon (just waiting for this one to blow up...), that Labour guy, and bless him for at least trying his hardest, Damon Albarn.
