I think on account of the songs being there. I actually think something like If I Had A Gun would have been a bigger success if it weren't butchered in the studio. I doubt it. Better production or not, it was never doing much as a single. Different times. Oasis singles weren't even making the top 10 by the end. Noel has never gone beyond top 15 with a single. Liam has had one top 20 single. The singles charts today and the way they're calculated just aren't geared up for that kinda music. Especially a Noel plodder like If I Had A Gun. It’s his most streamed solo song by a significant margin. artists.spotify.com/songwriter/7rFkzn5qPrcLHgxtiTOYj9More than Cigs & Alcohol, Slide Away, Rock n Roll Star…

Like now, calculating streams or downloads was generally benefiting certain styles and audiences, that's why

There is absolutely no reason for them not to release an eighth album.
Noel has been on a writing tear ever since they broke up. We have all suspected that he has been stockpiling away Oasis sounding songs for a while, and on top of it he has spoken of shelving a stadium rock-like sounding album. Liam tweeted the next Oasis album is coming in November.
I don't mean to get everybody's hopes up, but these people don't have writer's block or perfectionist problems like Guns N' Roses.
Just like the chorus of Cigarettes and Alcohol goes, the Gallagher brothers gotta make it happen!

Noel will know all he needs is a couple of decent singles and the new album will sell millions.

Or "Freaky Teeth"? Or "Come On Outside?". You could say that they were pre-written and he was developing new songs, but I'm not convinced. It's a nice idea to think he's been writing "Some Might Say" tracks in secret for the last decade, but I doubt he had the slightest intention of a reunion pre-divorce, and would have released any song he wrote in that time if he thought it was good for him. Perhaps he had songs written at home during the Moon era, which didn't work for the studio-only method of that album and then were too upbeat for Council Skies, but outside of that, I doubt it.

I never find myself coming back to any of Noel solo material, nor even DOYS. to expect an Oasis album is much to much IMO. sure, they'll may be up for it cash-grab-wise, meaning we would get a handful of forgettable songs like Sail On or Soldier On, personally i would be really surprised if the next year would bring a half decent A-side (which is the best Noel could aim for).

Soldier On shouldn't even be in the same sentence as Sail On, my lord.

I’ve grown to like Sail On. Nice wee tune.
I don’t care for Soldier On, but it fits the apocalyptic theme of the album and the mood of the band as it was in the process of falling apart.

Sail On is a great song. One of Noels best in 25 years.
Kinda paraphrasing Mark Coyle's explanation of Talk Tonight, it shows that glimmer of innocence and a lost lonely soul .

In all seriousness - To me the question "which is inferior - Soldier On or Sail On?" isn't even relevant, both are just examples of songs recorded by the brand "Oasis" or written by the same person who wrote the "real Oasis" songs, but none of those are "real Oasis" songs, and thats what im trying to say here - even HC brought an Oasis classic such as SCYHO, but nowadays...no way they could come up with an album full of worthy songs. So imagine you're waiting 15 year for an Oasis gig, just to stand there and wait for them to go through some promotion of a throwaway single like "Shock of the lighting"... If you were at the Stone Roses reunion gigs, man you know what a bummer it was for the crowd when they played that awful "one for all" song, when instead they could have played Ten Story Love Song....

I really like Soldier On. Great production, of course the song is not the biggest melody ever but it has a melancholic feeling. Great closer really. Would have been even bigger with Record Machine or Come on Outside just before. Or even Boys with the Blues (i put it just before SO on my Doys and it flows really well).
Sail On is also good; But why do we compare both? Its like comparing She's Electric and headshrinker.

Same here, it's actually one of my favourite Oasis songs of all time (which probably is an unpopular opinion)
