Had a fair few listens now. Don’t care so much that the lyrics are poor. Just the tune sounds bloody good

To me on first listen it’s like a Probably All In The Mind/Better Days type of tune.
Predictable bass and drums, throwaway lyrics. The bluesy solo seems out of place.

Had a fair few listens now. Don’t care so much that the lyrics are poor. Just the tune sounds bloody good Can’t wait to hear a full album now Lyrics of the Roses weren't exactly excellent either, and Liam is not a lyricist, so it's not very surprising. |

I always like to hear Liam's voice and Squire's guitar, so maybe this will grow on me, but the song is definitely not single material. The sound is exactly what you would expect, but not in a good way.

This is what I was getting at with the guitar overshadows the rest of the song...like it's too good for the rest of the song which kinda pales in comparison if that make any sense. |

Look. I loved first 3 Oasis records. Felt the rest were good for singles. Hated Beady Eye and find Noel boring. Liam’s solo stuff and this is so fun for me. I love it. Not sure what you were all expecting. But this is pure fun for an old fart like me.

This is exactly what I was hoping for and what I wanted. Listened to it a couple of times so far and it might be my favorite thing Liam has done during his solo career. It's just up my alley I guess.
Some of the other things I hear in it besides the Oasis/Stone Roses sound is:
-When the drums kick in, the drums and guitar almost sound like something off of Disraeli Gears by Cream
-The section after he names the colors of the rainbow kinda sounds like The Who
-Some of the guitar solos towards the end of the song almost sound like Jerry Garcia soloing circa 1968 or 1969, when the Grateful Dead were playing psychedelic rock. Very similar riffs and tone.

It's pretty much what I expected and exactly what I wanted.
Obviously have to wait to hear the HQ version but it sounds like an actual band playing. No thick layer of production gloss that accompanies many releases these days.
Oh and I've learnt that Greg Kurstin is a very good bass player and the drummer fella is a very good drummer.

A lot of the Roses lyrics were excellent in my opinion but I believe Ian Brown was mostly responsible for those. His solo lyrics are usually decent too. Squire did most of the Seahorses lyrics on the songs that weren't done with Helme and a lot of those lyrics were pretty bizarre at times |
