I think the Swamp Song was curiosity with people wondering “what’s the full version of that song between tunes on morning glory like?”. Remember this was the days before easy music downloads, so it was new to a lot of people. I know I was excited to hear it. They also opened the majority of their gigs in the fall of 1995 to the spring of 1996 with Swamp Song. A fantastic opener.

I don’t have a problem with Swamp Song being on there, I think it’s a good instrumental which played a key part in their MG tour setlist. However I don’t like how it and I am The Walrus are next to each other on the album, it ruins any kind of flow for me. Having Swamp Song open the album to go straight into Acquiesce just like Maine Road would make sense IMO. Similarly placing I Am The Walrus near the end. That said, if I was to pick the album and had to stick to 14, they’d both be the first to go, in place of Round Are Way and Cloudburst so I’ll just go 180 on that

So apparently its still at #1 after 5 days, but now just 500 units ahead.
One race i fear may now be lost…..as no doubt the Swifties will splash out all their pocket money buying her album on itunes , alongside bullying their friends into all streaming it 100 times each 😂

All depends how many people buy it then. It wont get 500 sales on streams alone.
I would say its time for Oasis to pull out the trump card and put on a new deal or another batch of some exclusive version now to boost the sales but theres no chance they have anything lined up.

So is this #1 gonna happen? Feels like another Noel vs Foo scenario where Noel was up “500” and then BAM! Another 4,000+ Foo albums came outta nowhere to get them to #1.
Rock, paper, Taylor. And Taylor always wins.

Can’t say I’m surprised. It never had a chance keeping up, as the reissue doesn’t offer anything new on streaming bar a remaster. And in the end, it was only going to sell so many physical copies. #1 would've been nice yes, but unlike Council Skies it was never really in with a shout.
All things considered, #2 isn’t bad for a reissue of a b-side collection. I doubt any other act bar the Beatles could reissue a rarities/b-sides compilation and get it so high.

Is this the first Oasis release to not make number one the first week?

Is this the first Oasis release to not make number one the first week? I guess the original was in 1998, unless you count the “singles collection” boxsets for DM and WTSMG. The only Oasis release that wasn’t a studio album but still hit #1 was Time Flies. Stop The Clocks didnt, Familiar To Millions didnt, Knebworth 1996 didnt.

If they wanted this to get no.1 all they had to do was add some of the unreleased tracks Noel wanted to a couple of years ago.
It's still mad that they can put a bunch of b-sides everybody already has on a coloured disc and they get no.2
Pissed off it didn't get no.1 though. Would have been a good story.

A half-baked reissue of a compilation from 1998 had a fat chance of ever competing with Swift, and no chance within the fabric of all reality when it's a remix of arguably her most celebrated work.

It was her second week of sales though, so she really could have been catchable. If Noel and or Liam had done some promo work for it this week, or they had actually offered something desirable like a blu ray disc with live renditions of all available songs I think it would have been enough to have got them over the line. A missed opportunity I think.

No one outside the top 10 most popular artists at this stage in her fame could catch her, especially a reissue of The Masterplan.

An anniversary poorly celebrated by the Oasis staff themselves. Poor promotion, without surprises and terribly monotonous with Noel who instead of promoting the album promoted himself by focusing the promotion mainly on songs in which he sang. For all these reasons the album did not reach the sales levels it deserved.

At least the Beatles got it done on the single side of things, both in the UK and the USA. It is kind of ironic and a bit funny that a lazy reissue got beaten by a re-release. Shame on Oasis management.
