For the record, Travis were always crap. I totally agree with you there.

He sure loves dull plodding drums don't he? It's making me desperately seek out some isolated drum tracks from Alan White as respite.

All this dissing of Travis reminds me that they're a great band. From one of their 'bad' albums.

Love the song and the lyrics. It's a lot better than Wandering Star. π

The more I listen to it, the more I think it sounds like Travis. It's got so many Travis trademarks it's literally a banjo riff away from being the real thing. I would be surprised if Fran Healy actually wrote it and sold it off to Noel.

I would be surprised if Fran Healy actually wrote it and sold it off to Noel. Melodically I can hear the similarities. Fran and Noel are similar songwriters, and it's no wonder they are fans of each other given their default status is the melody being the be all and end all. Though it could do with the deft touch of Travis production courtesy of Nigel Godrich rather than the lumbering mess it is.

It's good ... but, musically, I would prefer the album to go more in the direction of Pretty Boy Your kidding right ? Pretty Boy is probably the worst thing Noel has ever done and that is saying something considering the rubbish (with a few exceptions ) he has put out since WBTM . Am hoping Pretty Boy is a bad anomaly on this new album . I hope the opposite: that Easy Now is an anomaly in the record. Not because it's bad (it's actually pretty good, could have been a hit in the old times), but because nothing is exciting the 100th time you do it. In WBTM and the EPs he tried different things: not everything worked but when it did, it was his best since the 90s. If you are looking for "rubbish" take a look to the Oasis albums from HC: you will find plenty there (not only from Noel)

I'd rather experimentation with results not quite working out (not that WBTM was a failure by any means) rather than the same old songs time and time again with lesser return in quality.

Rised big time for me since this morning. Put it at an 8 now, great little tune. Sometimes simple Noel melodies is all you need man. Take it for what it is. Agreed. Started off as a 6 for me, on about par with Wandering Star. But I've been listening to it loads today since then and it's shot up to an 8. I think if you ignore the naff production and compressed vocals it's on par with If I Had A Gun, The Dying Of The Light or Dead In The Water

I consider myself quite a Noel fanboy, but man was I disappointed today with this...
It's not bad, it's effortless as many said already, but in a bad way for me cause it's far from great. I'm not against classic Noel (how could I), but if he goes that way at least bring me a Dying Of The Light or a Dead In The Water. Flying On The ground is far superior in my opinion, even We're On Our Way Now, how do we get a third song in the same vein, only less good, as a second single? After 6 years of waiting a proper album...?
I'd take the Pretty Boy direction any day, it may not be perfect but at least he's trying something different, not to mention Holly Mountain seems heaven to me at this point.
Also, is this the same guy who sacked Tony Mcarroll cause he couldn't drum for his songs, are we all hearing the same plodding drums... again...?
Sorry, I'm not happy today. Hopefully this is one of those single choices no one understands when the album is released.

Been listening to this throughout the day and I'm really enjoying and appreciating the melody. Loving it, in fact. Think it's classic Noel in the best possible way, even having some new twists here and there.
The production and the mixing, though, as stated before and by many, are just plain bad. Lazy. Plodding, indeed. This could've gone to much better and interesting places, but everything from the sound of the guitar solo and the snare drum to the muffled vocals just brings it down.

Your opinion re HC onwards is typical lazy analysis that happens with some fans that for whatever reason canβt get past the first 3 albums . Truth is there is plenty to enjoy post HC for one thing decent and listenable production for a start . Also to equate garbage like Black Star Dancing and This is the Place to the 90βs output is just so comically wrong and bizarre I do not know where to begin with that . I think for a start you seriously need to get your hearing checked .

What a great song "I'll be there / I'll wait for you I swear". Gorgeous Yeah, this is so simple but it has really been getting me when I listen to it this morning.

I'm doing my Alvvays fan again "I'll be there, I'll wait for you I swear" is really similar to the melody of the pre chorus in Next of Kin at 0:42

I only take water, coffee and sometimes a bit of Pespi. A few beers. Orange Juice. That's it. Say no to drugs, kids.
