Incredible. Messi properly doing it at the World Cup. Overall team performance so great, what a tactical masterstroke bringing in Alvarez and Fernandez. Alvarez is so much fun to watch. A bit of chaos up front and cool headed stability from Fernandez in the middle of the pitch.

Incredible. Messi properly doing it at the World Cup. I love how many incredible and decisive moments he's had. That crucial goal against Mexico which gave them their hope back, and then in the playoff matches first an incredible goal against Australia, then a sensational assist against Holland, and tonight that ridiculous action leading to 3-0. Not to forget, two sensational penalties when it mattered the most, in the penalty shootout and tonight. And still there's one match left. |

I´ll say it again: if you don´t think Messi is the best player ever, you´re lying to yourself.
Hope he gets the World Cup he deserves, but I still think France are the strongest team of the tournament.

Will you go back to hate Messi in the final? I adore Messi actually but I was always against when people were calling him GOAT. This is what I think It is like the last dance. That is how Jordan became GOAT, when he was over 35. That is what Federer did then Nadal and now it is time to see if Djokovic will. They were all great and there was debate if they were GOAT before, but what they did late in their career made them ultimate GOAT. They are all 10/10 players and they are all in top 5 of all time, but if we are talking about ultimate GOAT, you can always use Xavi/Iniesta argument against Messi. Messi had the chance do it earlier but ok, he is doing it now. I still don't think that those Barcelona years are enough for him to be GOAT. He needs WC. He is 10/10 player, top 4 of all time. My "hate" for him is when people think that he is ultimate GOAT which I don't find to be true. It is like with The Rolling Stones. They are 10/10 band, one of the best of all time but if you are arguing with someone who say that they are best ever, you must remind him that Beatles exist and maybe even in that debate you will say that Stones are shit 🤣 But that only means shit compared with The Beatles 😁 I would really like that Messi win this. But if he doesn't, he is shit 🤣 Compared to Pele and Maradona and even Ronaldo, if you ask me. |

I thought Euro 96' we at least matched the German side. Certainly France 98' we were better than the Argentinians. Arguably, Maradonna aside we were better than them in 86'. The 96 match is brutal. It’s like rugby football lol Incredible game. And it highlights what’s really missing from this World Cup: Atmosphere
I was at Wembley for all the England games in '96. Great times. The journey up on the tube for the semi-final was fantastic ... the journey back was basically silent. There's a moment when Gascoigne looks like he simply must score in ET and he cant quite reach the cross with the goal empty. Seared into my memory. Everyone around me KNEW we were losing once the pens began. Sigh.
Britpop, Oasis, etc ... fantastic time to be living in London with a bit of pretty green in your pocket. There's a good book come out recently about all that time: "Faster Than A Cannonball" - great Xmas present material

Wales were pure gash eh? Thon keeper Ward completely flogged the 1st and 3rd goals against England, popadom hands. He wasn't too clever for both of the goals Iran stuck past him too. As much as I want Argentina to do well, I just can't take to Messi. Something about him I really don't like.I'll shut my pus, watched that BBC documentary about him that's on iPlayer at the minute and he seems like a decent guy. |

Can't say I'm really too bothered who wins now tbh, but maybe a slight leaning towards France as they've got there despite some pretty important injuries.
Not sure many other teams could have withstood the loss of players of the caliber of Pogba, Benzema and Kante.
Their golden generation actually wins things.
