It’s frustrating to read comments on this forum sometimes because people post their opinions and act as if it’s fact. I.e.: the lyrics are utter shit, anyone could write a better melody, the sound is cliché, etc. I agree that “I can see a liar sitting by the fire” may sound sophomoric, but it doesn’t mean it’s objectively shit. Maybe Noel had an experience with someone that he revered and realized that the person was full of shit while they were on drugs or next to a fire. Any phrase of lyrics could hold a different meaning to every single person on the planet. I pretty much couldn’t care less about the lyrical content of songs because on any given day, the same words could mean something completely different to me. There are an inordinate amount of Oasis lyrics that seem ridiculous or even stupid on the surface, but that doesn’t mean they hold zero meaning or depth to the person that wrote them.

If Put Yer Money Where Your Mouth Is, I Can See A Liar and little James (although that's not quite as bad) weren't on the album then Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants would be a good album.

Completely agree with the assessment you're making of people stating their opinion as fact. It most annoys me with Beady Eye being called absolutely shit with no redeeming qualities. Just dismisses fans like myself as if we must be morons. I agree with what you say about Oasis lyrics, but as far as I Can See A Liar is concerned I think the rhyming (especially for the chorus) is just so bad. I'd be embarrassed to play that part to anyone as a big Oasis fan. Nonsensical stuff can be genius. I think She's Electric lyrics are mega for what they do. I think it just empotomises Noel Gallagher in 1995 and Noel Gallagher in 2000 in terms of when he could effortlessly produce hit after hit vs when he was forcing songs that just weren't there using the same old formula.

Although the song itself is shit the live version is better than the album version but why they decided to perform it on The Late Late Show in America I've no idea as there's so many other better songs from Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants which they could've played live instead.

For me it breaks the album's atmosphere. The same with "I Can See a Liar".

Management: “Guys, we’ve got a slot on the Letterman show!” Noel: “Brilliant - let’s play I Can See a Liar!” Liam: “Yeah! And I’ll wear my flip flops!” Management: “Oh FFS.” I have never ever noticed that before...and I've watched this sooo many times ha ha. I personally like this song, nice little Liam agro tune he snarls out to perfection.

They weren't really blessed with a load of options for TV-friendly tunes to play from that album. With those guitars and Liam's voice, Full On would have been better but even that needed a second verse.

But they could have played Go Let It Out instead as it was the first single from Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants in the UK anyway and I would have thought that was the obvious choice.

I still like the album but having Let’s All make believe and One way road on the record instead of I can see a liar and put your money where your mouth is would have improved it (imo)

The only thing is though we'd probably have got Put Yer Money Where Your Mouth Is and I Can See A Liar as b.sides unless Noel had written anything else.

Mind you, that said if One Way Road had been on the album it would have meant that there would be three Noel sung tracks on it. So I guess that they probably wouldn't have wanted that back then.

nothing. if liam would releasse it nowaydays, all the fanbois would go crazy. and rightly so, because it's better than anything liam has released to far. Ha!
