I’ve been on a huge Bob Dylan kick lately mainly just the 60’s stuff up to Desire but it got me thinking I’ve seen a ton of Noel interviews and it seems like he never mentions Bob. Does anyone know if he’s said if he listened to him or influenced him ever throughout his career? Those 3 albums in 65-66 are absolute epics.

Love Dylan. Always thought Mucky Fingers was Noel trying to be a bit dylanesque.
Couldn't point you too an interview but I'm sure I've read somewhere that he was a big fan.

What is the name of that song, it was just a demo, sounds like Dylan, it has some whistling or something at the beginning?

Oh yeah this. Sounds like something that someone who is not fan of Dylan would write :-)

Bootleg Series, The Cutting Edge. Think it’s number 12? It’s sensational.

I always thought that Noel was a fan of both Dylan and Neil Young.

Wish some soundboard versions of Noel’s dylan covers would “leak” and it would be fun if he ever tossed one into his set randomly.

Big indication of his fandom of Dylan going back to the 90s - see the 'blood on the tracks' reference in D'You Know What I Mean.

I realise I’m offering very little regarding Noel in relation to Dylan and vice-versa BUT...
Bob Dylan actually blows me away.
He’s just so far ahead of the pack it’s ridiculous.
Britain had 4 Beatles and a bagful of Stones...he’s outrun and out-written all of them combined. Here’s a guy - one dude - who makes peripheral figures of cats like Mike Bloomfield and Emmylou Harris.
He released Highway 61, then arguably outdone himself with Blonde on Blonde (possibly).
At his peak he was disgustingly prolific but hardly ever at the expense of quality. He’ll rhyme a word with itself and manage to make it clear it was never due to a lack of ideas but to humour and mischief. He can be greatly philosophical but deliver it in such a ragged way that he sounds like a frustrated dockyard worker.
He’s fucking...out of this world.

Please, PLEASE don't compare Bob Dylan musically with Paul Mccartney. Dylan is rock's greatest lyricist , i'll give you that. But in termas of melodic songwriting NO ONE can touch Mccartney in consistency. Bob Dylan seems to agree too...

Nah not having that, you can't shit on a guy who wrote Eleanor Rigby by comparing it to Hollyoaks. There's no accounting for taste with that. I would say McCartney's Hollywood, Dylan's French cinema. McCartney more accessible at demonstrating profound human emotions, Dylan more philosophical. Both excel at what they do and are the best, but they're completely incomparable forms of art. Both are loved at being the best at what they do, it's not a competition. If we're comparing to Hollyoaks, there's a Kasabian thread for that.

Bit off topic - I know there's very few similarities between Noel and Liams songwriting but it's always struck me how Liam references songs like this the same way Noel used to. It's almost as if Noels only tip to him was mention loads of old songs you know and rip off as many tunes as you know.

I don't like the way Dylan is framed as a lyricist, he's written a hell of a lot of great songs musically. They might not have big flag waving choruses or a pop structure or length but the man can write a tune.

I see what your getting at but I'm not sure there has been any one better at articulating a large a range of human emotions than Dylan.

There's that time Noel said Liam brought a song to the studio and the lyrics consisted of basically nothing but titles of Oasis songs.
