Nah not having that, you can't shit on a guy who wrote Eleanor Rigby by comparing it to Hollyoaks. There's no accounting for taste with that. I would say McCartney's Hollywood, Dylan's French cinema. McCartney more accessible at demonstrating profound human emotions, Dylan more philosophical. Both excel at what they do and are the best, but they're completely incomparable forms of art. Both are loved at being the best at what they do, it's not a competition. If we're comparing to Hollyoaks, there's a Kasabian thread for that. I see what your getting at but I'm not sure there has been any one better at articulating a large a range of human emotions than Dylan. I don't doubt that, I just mean that Dylan's way with words conveys those emotions and truths in a more complex way, like a lot of poetry you can view a lot of interpretations.

Bit off topic - I know there's very few similarities between Noel and Liams songwriting but it's always struck me how Liam references songs like this the same way Noel used to. It's almost as if Noels only tip to him was mention loads of old songs you know and rip off as many tunes as you know. There's that time Noel said Liam brought a song to the studio and the lyrics consisted of basically nothing but titles of Oasis songs. "So don't look back in anger, we're gonna live forever. D'you know what I mean? We're all part of the masterplan, like a rock and roll star. The importance of being idle, some might say, is half the world away..."

You could quote easily sing the start of that to the tune of One Of Us

Big indication of his fandom of Dylan going back to the 90s - see the 'blood on the tracks' reference in D'You Know What I Mean. Bit off topic - I know there's very few similarities between Noel and Liams songwriting but it's always struck me how Liam references songs like this the same way Noel used to. It's almost as if Noels only tip to him was mention loads of old songs you know and rip off as many tunes as you know. The funny part for me is that it works for Liam solo as well because his songs tend to be on the personal/confessional side and Oasis was quite literally his entire adult life (until it wasn't). So when he references the songs it's kind of like, well, his Rosebud...they are part of what made him who he is. There's also a Beatles link...naturally. Liam singing "Act like you don't remember, You said we'd live forever" (for just one example) has that little resonant echo of John singing "So Sgt. Pepper took you by surprise, you better see right through that mother's eyes." But yeah, off-topic. Dylan in his own realm. Nobel Prize Winner for Literature not going to happen to any other rock star. Still they do share in common influencing the culture, which very few do.

Okay thanks guys! Makes sense I knew he was obsessed with Neil Young and I had a feeling he loved Dylan too just wish he would mention him as much as he does the Beatles or kinks or la’s.

I can imagine Noel nearly died laughing if that is actually true about Liam bringing that to an Oasis session, magic.
