Said it before, but I wish Noel would have waited a few more years to return in the 2000's, until he had the singles to befit the comeback to one of the most iconic runs of music ever made. Something like this in 2002:
STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS 01) Fuckin' in the Bushes 02) Go Let it Out 03) Who Feels Love? 04) Little by Little 05) The Hindu Times 06) Gas Panic! 07) Let's All Make Believe 08) Where Did it All Go Wrong? 09) Stop Crying Your Heart Out 10) Roll it Over
With all songs having Liam vocals and The Hindu Times being the demo version, would have kicked off the second half of their career perfectly. A new sound, a good crop of singles, and a trimmer feel after the excess of Be Here Now. The best thing I could do with the HC/DBTT era is maybe an acoustic-style EP, something along the lines of:
DON'T BELIEVE THE TRUTH - EP 01) Turn up the Sun 02) Songbird 03) Lyla 04) The Importance of Being Idle 05) Pass Me Down the Wine 06) The Roller 07) Part of the Queue 08) Let there be Love
And that'd do me. You might like stuff like Eyeball Tickler or Born on a Different Cloud, but chuck them as nice b-sides. Then Dig Out Your Soul with the usual corrections (Come On Outside, Record Machine, Boy With the Blues) and you've at least got three good releases with distinct sounds, some good singles, and a lot less time wasted with nonsense like Force of Nature or A Bell Will Ring.

I remember it leaking while I was on holiday in Malaysia and I found an internet café owner who I tipped a few quid to download it for me and put it onto my MP3 player. The funny thing was that we moved on from Penang to Kuala Lumpur a few days later and it was already being sold on the pirate markets there. Good times.

Oasis in 2005 were plodding. thats what most of people say round here. Eyeball Tickler and Don't Slow Me Down on the record instead of serious and dull stuff like Keep The Dream, GGTIAbel and Love Like a Bomb and you've got a least a bit of excitement.

Well, I for one am glad that Lord Don't Slow Me Down wasn't on Don't Believe The Truth as it's not a great song and it's one of their songs which I never listen to.

I disagree with including The Roller but not Eyeball Tickler and Born on a Different Cloud. I see where you're coming from because they're very typical Oasis-like tracks, but I think outside of that, they have a place on an album and it would round out that EP to 10 tracks too.

Turn Up the Sun - 8.5 Mucky Fingers - 3 Lyla - 7 Love Like a Bomb - 5 The Importance of Being Idle - 7 The Meaning of Soul - 7 Guess God Thinks I'm Abel - 5 Part of the Queue - 5 Keep the Dream Alive - 4 A Bell Will Ring - 6 Let There Be Love - 5
For me, it’s their worst. I find it to be poor.

Love Like a Bomb might just be Liam’s worse vocal.
I think when you listen to it from start to finish it’s a nice cohesive album with some bug highlights (the opener and three singles) but when you start taking the album tracks on their own their weakness becomes apparent.
Part of the Queue is underrated though. Sounds like a proto- NGHFB track (which makes sense I guess).

I like this album a lot. I probably would rank it as fourth out of the seven Oasis albums. It has a nice sound to it that really sounds like they mean business compared to Heathen Chemistry, which just sounds flat. I understand a lot of people don't like Keep the Dream Alive, a Bell Will Ring, or even Let There Be Love, but I honestly dig all those tracks. Keep the Dream Alive has a pretty good Liam vocal. The only track I really don't like is the Meaning of Soul. I don't even understand how it counts as a full track it's barely longer than an interlude on a Coldplay album. Also the tracks sound better live. I wouldn't call that a fault though because that's basically a rule of thumb for most Oasis tracks.

I've always liked Don't Believe The Truth and Guess God Thinks I'm Able is one of the best songs on it and it's certainly the best song Liam wrote during his Oasis days. I've always liked Keep The Dream Alive and Let There Be Love. As for A Bell Will Ring it's ok but it's better live than on the album and the same goes for Mucky Fingers although I do actually like the song and I don't think that it's as bad as what some people make out.

At first I didn’t realize how bad LLAB was until a few months after release. I just wanted a new album and I wanted an awesome new Liam song. It was supposed to be a beefed up songbird. Love the music of the tune but Liam is not in his best light during this track.

Turn Up the Sun - 7 Mucky Fingers - 2 Lyla - 6 Love Like a Bomb - 3 The Importance of Being Idle - 6 The Meaning of Soul - 6 Guess God Thinks I'm Abel - 3 Part of the Queue - 8 Keep the Dream Alive - 6.5 A Bell Will Ring - 3 Let There Be Love - 2
5 woeful songs on there.
I love POTQ and TUTS is cool too and I've always had a soft spot for KTDA and TMOS. (TMOS I don't think is great but most people think it's shit)
And I've never truly connected with Lyla or TIOBI (I know most Oasis fans love TIOBI and the lyrics are cool but the melody and Noel's vocals just grate on me)

"GGTIA" is one of the most underrated Oasis gems, "TIOBI" undeniably great, and Lyla is uninspired but still pretty good somehow.
If I never heard any of the other songs ever again, I wouldn't see it as a huge loss.

I made a quick cover for my EP version of the album, because the album cover is just so useless:

IMO half of the album aged well actually, some of them sounds really good like Lyla, TIOBI, MF, GGTIA, POTQ, TUTS, and wouldn't sound out of place on Chasing Yesterday if you ask me.
The other half however...

I know it's near universally despised but I have just never understood the hate for Mucky Fingers. It's not the nightmare that is Force of Nature and it's a far better tune than the plodding Waiting For The Rapture.
Give it to Liam and it would be unreal. It's a good song and one of the best on an okay album (I probably see it as the best out of the last three uninspired Oasis albums). My ratings are:
Turn Up The Sun - 7 Mucky Fingers - 7.5 Lyla - 7 Love Like A Bomb - 6 The Importance of Being Idle - 8.5 The Meaning of Soul - 5 Guess God Thinks I'm Abel - 8 Part of the Queue - 8 Keep The Dream Alive - 5 A Bell Will Ring - 2 Let There Be Love - 6

It's Top 10 Oasis lows for me probably, though I agree FON is worse!

I honestly don't know if I've ever heard the end of Mucky Fingers. It's borderline unlistenable to me after the first minute; every time I try it, I enjoy the start and then it just keeps going with the same dull beat, getting less catchy as it goes on, and I get annoyed by it and have to turn it off. When he keeps doing that "it's allll miiine", fucking hell.

Think I agree about this album being their worst, though. So many songs are just flat out dreadful - Mucky Fingers, Love Like a Bomb, Meaning of Soul, A Bell Will Ring. Even Lyla and Turn up the Sun aren't all that. Let there be Love is the opposite of SCYHO - great verses, no chorus. Part of the Queue is nice enough as a deep-cut, Keep the Dream Alive has a good song in it without some of the cringe lyrics and nah-nah-nahs, and The Importance of Being Idle is just this masterpiece out of nowhere, perhaps Noel's last truly great pop song. Guess God Think's I'm Abel is nice enough. If I had to rearrange the record with some of the songs available at the time:
1. Turn Up the Sun 2. Eyeball Tickler 3. Lyla 4. The Importance of Being Idle 5. Pass Me Down the Wine 6. Guess God Thinks I'm Abel 7. The Roller 8. Part of the Queue 9. Weight of the World 10. Keep the Dream Alive 11. Let there be Love

It's a shame so many people are missing out on Mucky Fingers and Force of Nature. I still have no real idea why they're so widely disliked. Solid album tracks.
