4/10 from Melon Man. "If you've heard The Lightning, you've heard the only excitement WE has to offer". Hard to disagree with that one. I don't know, they were so many mistakes on EN. When we are talking about WE, it is the band past their prime, doing, I guess, almost the best they can. My opinion is that it is a good album, 6 or 7 out of 10. I don't think that we need that hate with 4/10 reviews because that is, to me, more hate than how it is. It is like if you give it 9 or 10/10 then...well...give me the number of your drug dealer, I want whatever you're smoking 🤣 It is maybe 4/10 for AF standards, but it is not fair to review album like that.

If we are talking about 4/10, this performance is 4/10. And I'm being generous.

I'm putting it near a 5-5.5/10 at the moment. Just nothing except The Lightning to pull me back, and it felt like I'd explored the whole record after it had been out for one day. I don't think 4/10 is too outlandish, even if I'd bump it up. Fantano's Reflektor disrespect is where I mainly disagree with him on the band, but he makes good points here. The band needs a shot in the arm, I feel.

It’s not a bad album by any means. Sadly this album’s release confirms that AF are no longer in their prime. I was hoping EN was a blip on the trajectory but it wasn’t. It was the beginning of their post prime run where band members leave, reviews are good but not great and expectations scaled back on all fronts. Curious how this US arena tour goes. EN tour was unkind to them and I’m shocked they would double down on arenas. “We” has no filler tracks unlike it’s predecessor but it does feel 2-3 tracks short and too too heavy. Definitely not a well balanced running order. I hate to buy into that cliche idea of “oh they said they got a ton of material leftover I guess a follow up album will come out soon” but who knows. That’s very Kings of Limb hysteria that proved 10000% wrong. I do know that 3 of the 4 clips Win shared on IG during March/April do not appear on this album in any shape or form and those snippets sounded REALLY strong. I hope it won’t take another 4-5 years for them to see the light. If that happens the band members will be 48-53 years old. Basically Noel solo territory.

What I don't like is that this album didn't help their setlist. Now they have to play songs from new album and setlist is now weaker than before.
With EN, at least there are few great songs that make live shows better.

Went back and re-listened to the 45 minute instrumental they dropped in April 2021 called "Memories of the Age of Anxiety". It definitely has many sci-fi/space passages to it and you can hear many movements of "Age of Anxiety I" throughout it.

Not a big Arcade Fire fan but really enjoying Lightning I and II. Especially love the melody in I. Unconditional I is great as well.

I think that people had high expectations.
I like it more and more. It is definitely 6.5 or 7/10 album at least, now it is time to give it more chance and start enjoying it more.
I come back everyday to some other song.
At the end of the day, they are my/our band and I don't have to be objective, I will always enjoy more this kind of music than some others, even if everyone give 10/10 to some trap albums or something like that.

Not a great track perhaps, but I do find ‘Unconditional II (Race and Religion)’ to be absolutely adorable. But then I’m a sucker for Regine’s girly voice.

Win sings some of these new songs beautifully. He doesn’t get enough credit for that great voice of his. That bit in the ‘End of the Empire’ track where he sings “Didn’t used to think I could ever dream about losing you… you… but I do!” is sublime.

Ok, it is time to admit to myself that it is shit album 🤣 I even forgot that it exists 🤣 It feels like an Arcade Fire album just didn't come out this year. It's not disappointment I feel, it's like they just haven't released anything at all. At least The Lightning bopped. Cool Harry Styles cover, too.

Imagine someone saying to you, like ten years ago, that in 2022 Liam's album will be superior in every way to AF's album 🤣

I always admire ambitious work, even if it's shit. Always thought it was a dead cert to have that from Arcade Fire. Never thought they'd release such an inconsequential and immediately forgettable album.
I don't think it's shit, there's nothing appalling to my ears, it's just... nothing. After five years too, it's not as if it's a misstep given the length of time had. To quote Sick Boy from Trainspotting, "Well, at one time, you've got it, and then you lose it, and it's gone forever".

The new album confirmed my suspicions following EN that we are now in the post prime era for the band. I was hoping EN was a blip but it wasn’t. There are no bad songs on WE but it’s about 3 tracks light in my opinion. With 5 years off I wanted a little more from the band. There are so many conspiracy theories about a quick follow up album this fall or early 2023 but I feel like this never happens when bands tease it. It’s always always longer if true.

Despite not being a big fan and the bad reviews I started listening and I can just conclude that Age of Anxiety I is a stellar tune. Warm Neil Young vibes.
