Loads of footage of the recent shows on YouTube. Wonder if there’s any bootlegs doing the rounds?
Age of Anxiety I is brilliant.

Banger. Should have got the full, independent single treatment.

Banger. Should have got the full, independent single treatment. Shit. Better not tell the vinyl 12 inch sitting on my shelf or the video they produced for it.

The video was a combined thing with "We Don't Deserve Love", if I remember correctly. That was a bad idea. Like I said, the track deserved the full, independent single treatment; with a single edit and an acoustic version as a single on streaming, it should have been the second pre-album single instead of "Creature Comfort", I think. It was the only other song I heard from the album in clubs or bars. It was even included in some popular streaming playlists. The title track did well, and that song being a full and proper pre-album single with it's own video and round of promotion would have boosted how the album did commercially, I think. But the backlash was always gonna come: someone compared Arcade Fire to Chance the Rapper on Twitter recently, saying that they tried to boost into stadiums on the back of their worst music and suffered the consequences, and it's hard to disagree. There's enough good music on Everything Now to make it worthwhile, though.

There's enough good music on Everything Now to make it worthwhile, though. Typically only AF first singles do much damage commercially. After that it doesn’t really matter. EN had a lot going against it. They’ve done the complete opposite while promoting WE. Very scaled back. Less band chatter. I knew the arena tour was a gigantic mistake when announced in 2017. They just can’t pull those type of numbers coast to coast. AF is best seen in a smaller venue with the crowd feeding off the energy. Can’t imagine a half filled basketball arena can accomplish that. Even when I saw them at a sold out MSG the energy was kinda muted.

There's enough good music on Everything Now to make it worthwhile, though. To be fair, the Official Audio video for "Put Your Money on Me" has almost nine million views. That's less than two million off the actual second pre-album single, on it's Official Video. "We Don't Deserve Love" has less than three, for comparison. The combined video has less than one; in other words, the tune made it's own interest. It had an audience. Give it a pre-album video of it's own, a single edit for that and for streaming, it's own round of promotion, and there's no reason why it couldn't be a relatively hard-hitting single in it's own right. Like I said, it was getting played in streaming playlists and they were getting played in clubs and bars, in a way that no other track bar the title track was. It was never gonna change the eventual fate of Everything Now, but every little helps, and not putting more spotlight on the track with a full, independent single release was a mistake for sure.

Great Coachella set last night. Debuted another new song (Unconditional I “Lookout Kid”). Sweet. Tender. Goosebumps.

Very happy the band is closely guarding “End of The Empire” their 9+ min track to end side 1 of “We”. Don’t wanna blow your load early like Coldplay with “Colortura”. That song looking back should have been saved for release day. Not much left on Spheres of value when the album dropped.

First impression is that there's a charm to the instrumentation but Win is going hard with his guitar-playing Christian-counsellor lyrics. "You know you can move your hips, and you know God is cool with this"? Hmm. Very U2 in the last minute. Mix is good. I don't know. The Lightning grew on me, so maybe this will too, but it might be too corny even for Arcade Fire, and the cheese is usually part of the appeal with them. We'll see. It'll either end up being a song that I fall in love with, or one that feels like Reverend Lovejoy trying to cover Funeral.

That is not a single.
I think that it is over for Arcade Fire, if we are talking about 9/10 or 10/10 albums and being one of the best and greatest bands in the world.
And that is fine, they are 40 plus, it is time for someone else.
