The Hindu Times - 6 Force of Nature - 6.5 (superior live though) Hung in a Bad Place - 7 Stop Crying Your Heart Out - 6.5 Songbird - 7.5 Little by Little - 5 A Quick Peep - 6 (Probably) All in the Mind - 6.5 She Is Love - 4 Born on a Different Cloud - 8.5 Better Man - 7
Not as bad as DBTT, which I find to be unlistenable, in full.

The Hindu Times - 6/10 Force of Nature - 4/10 Hung in a Bad Place - 3/10 Stop Crying Your Heart Out - 7/10 Songbird - 8/10 Little by Little - 6/10 A Quick Peep - 3/10 All in the Mind - 5/10 She is Love - 4/10 Born on a Different Cloud - 5/10 Better Man - 3/10
Songbird overall the most likeable tune on the record. Always puts a smile on my face. The Hindu Times and Little by Little have great tunes in them but they needed that Stent-style SOTSOG darkness applied to them and not the generic, radio-rock treatment that reduced them to their worst features. Stop Crying Your Heart Out has a great chorus but the verses are basically non-existent. The rest is crap.

I know most of their albums are 11 tracks but A Quick Peep shouldn't really count it's a nice instrumental but that shouldn't have stopped them from adding one more track to it.

I've always liked Heathen Chemistry even though She Is Love and A Quick Peep let it down a bit but the rest of the album I've never hated. Ok Better Man isn't one of Liam's best but Born On A Different Cloud and Songbird are great. I've always loved The Hindu Times, Stop Crying Your Heart Out and Little By Little. Also, I've always liked Hung In A Bad Place too and I don't think that it's that bad.

I think this thread is proof that Songbird is the most overrated oasis song.

and All In The Mind is the most underrated. sounds like Waterfall with Beatles harmonies and the solo is mint. EDIT - yeah seriously needed a producer . Noel says MG is half finished (obviously he talks shit most of the times), the songs dont have a second verse and it sounds bad... man what does he have to say about this song?

The Hindu Times (8) Great lead single, really solid, better than Go Let It Out in my opinion - shame the production and Liam's vocals aren't better but shows the strength of the song that despite these failings, it's still for me probably their best single since All Around The World.
Force of Nature - (2.5) Just awful! Horrible foghorn vocals from Noel, especially when he's straining 'they're smoking all my stash' or whatever, sounds like he's straining out last nights vindaloo. Just a really bad song in general, like the kids would want to get down to this horrible old man track.
Hung in a Bad Place (2) More dad rock specialisms, this time from the master of dad rock Mr Gem Archer - a man who has never listened to music beyond the year 1975. And it shows with this horribly out of fashion tune that is akin to what an overweight middle aged pub rocker would sing down at the local.
Stop Crying Your Heart Out (8.5) At last, a uplifting reprieve from the torture of the previous songs, which I assume is the meaning behind the song. A chorus that swells, one of Noel's best chorus melodies in latter Oasis - in fact, probably the best. And a shout out to the call/response vocal from Liam and Noel in the second verse ('don't be scared' 'I'm not scared'). Like The Hindu Times, not a great production but the strength of the song sees it through. One of latter Oasis genuine classics. So uplifting you genuinely get the sense the worst is behind us, until we get to the rest of the album.....
Songbird (7.5) Lovely simple and charming tune, Liam hitting the sweet spot as he does so often with these kind of songs. His best vocal on the album and the best produced one too (thankfully they opted against the Beatles knock off demo). Has the light poppy touch that this dad rock fest of an album is crying out for.
Little by Little (7.5) Not a classic but another infectious anthemic chorus which Noel seemed bereft of during this phase. One of the few tracks on the album that succeeds in its anthemic qualities.
A Quick Peep (3) What's the point of this?
(Probably) All in the Mind (2) Just the absolute worst song Noel has probably ever written. It's unbelievable this came from him. There is no tune to this at all. An awful vocal from Liam too and an ear-bleeding harmony. Even a guitar genius like Johnny Marr can't do anything with this tune and is brought down to mediocre levels as its that bad.
She Is Love (5) A throw away tune, but not as bad as people make out. Unremarkable but one of the few tunes where I understand what is going on and what the sentiments are.
Born on a Different Cloud (4) What's all the hype about this one? Just go and listen to Plastic Ono Band and Imagine to get a proper fix for this kind of song. An awful Lennon rip off, just the kind of stuff that the haters can legitimately call upon when calling them a Beatles tribute act. Yet another poor vocal from Liam.
Better Man (3) One rubbish vocal riff, repetitive beyond belief.
Utter utter shite! It's honestly one of the worst albums I've ever bought, not just the worst Oasis album. There's no vibrancy or youthful energy to it - it really is dad rock of the worst kind. Aside from the singles, no poppy moments and doesn't scale any melodic heights that gave them so much popular appeal. The sound is drab and insipid, no colour or ambition in the recordings either. If Lawrence Fox has a favourite album, this is it. It's the kind of crap you get when you are conservative in taste and is an indictment on everyone's narrow tastes involved in this album.

The Hindu Times: B+ Force of Nature: F Hung In a Bad Place: D+ Stop Crying Your Heart Out: A Songbird: B (still overrated) Little By Little: B A Quick Peep: F Probably All In The Mind: D+ She Is Love: D- Born On A Different Cloud: C (Live version is a B-) Better Man: F (probably worst song they ever did) The Cage: C-
Compared to DBTT, HC has higher highs and lower lows, whereas DBTT is all around below average.

There is an evident lack of energy on HC, they sound tired on it, no animation at all even with two new bandmembers, the SOTSOG Tour was their biggest tour at the time, so they should have take more time to rest and waited til 2003 to release the album.

I think this thread is proof that Songbird is the most overrated oasis song. I like this song. What I don't like though about it is by the time it really gets going the song is over. Also it basically set the precedent for Liam being allowed to include the a two minute track like the Meaning of Soul and Ain't Got Nothin'. Why couldn't Noel, Gem or Andy help Liam out with creating a bridge for these two songs? All in all, the effects of the song on the tracks allowed on their next two albums outweighs how much I like it.

The Hindu Times - excellent, weird vocals but works in the mix. Force of Nature - Trash, not a fan at all, no idea why its sung by Noel. Hung in a Bad Place - really like this, lots of aggro. Stop Crying Your Heart Out - a classic single. Songbird - lovely little song, Noel chose right to strip it down from the demo Little by Little - not a fan, chorus comes off boring and far too slow. A different beast live. A Quick Peep - overhated, really dig the groove. All in the Mind - absolute shite, not a clue what its doing on the album. She is Love - Same as little by little, really boring. The pieces just don't come together. Born on a Different Cloud - so close to being good for me, the middle 8 is so amateurishly written. Theres a vibe there but doesn't do enough. Better Man - A throwaway track. Should've been a B-side.
Overall: Still the worst Oasis album for me, a smoother listening experience than Be Here Now but the bulk of the songs are less interesting. By no means bad, still better than a lot of other band's best albums.

It's hard to give it love. I don't love every track, in fact I skip majority the of the second half, but there are some bright spots. Did get some bomb shows from this era though.
