Now & Then isn't big enough to stand on its own merit so I think they just made an excuse for it by remixing the Red and Blue albums. But if what's billed as 'the last Beatles single' can't stand on its own merit, it suggests an underlying lack of confidence with it I think. I can't say I'm a fan of it, much prefer the sketchy home demos from Lennon. Not to be all morbid, but it has a fascinating haunting quality to it, more profound as it comes near the end of his life. It's not complete but feels more spontaneous for it too. 'The Beatles' version does nothing for me. And the video? I echo what I think somebody on here said, that it looks like a sixth form art project gone badly wrong. Awful stuff! For me it’s still the 3rd best of the “new” Beatles songs. Free As A Bird being the best in my opinion. I wish the b-side to Now and Then was the Lennon demo all cleaned up with the AI separation. What a missed opportunity so far. Now and Then feels like an extreme Frankenstein creation. Lennon vocals from 1977. George guitar from 1994. Paul and Ringo backing harmonies from 2023. Sonically it’s all over the map and feels cluttered. They should have just waited to release it with Anthology 4 or whenever Peter Jackson is done working on the Anthology doc. I agree. Don't think there's much in it. I'm just not a fan of the 'new' Beatles songs. They exist purely as Lennon gems and shouldn't be touched. These demos exist like a polaroid picture, its primitive but captures the pure essence in a way more elaborate means wouldn't achieve.

That's impressive and terrifying in equal measure. Was watching Rick Beato earlier, this video is pretty scary. I'm not saying people can't enjoy it, it's going to get to the point there will be songs written by AI we'll all enjoy (whether we admit it or not). But I feel uncomfortable with it, somehow robots are manipulating us to elicit emotions from us. That's what is scary. It could be countered that many pop songs are manipulative anyhow, so what's the difference? But I also believe our favourite songwriters are such because we believe and empathise in what they're expressing. There's an undefinable sincerity to what is performed and a human connection made. AI is just another terrifying tool, like social media, that is taking us away from real, authentic human connection.

"star" musicians is a very "new" idea in humanity, its really existed in massive form since the 50s. However, on a pure technical level, its mind blowing. there's a world where IA can help songwriters produce amazing sounds, just like pedals, amps, pro tools and stuff. I dont think musicians should feel threatened by IA, they should find a way to work with it. Humans have a way to adapt, its time to adapt to AI. Coz its not going away.

I won't be adapting music wise when it comes to listening to music. I'll only listen to real artists and bands. If at some point there won't be any real music available to listen and purchase then I just stick with my old collection. Greetings, Grumpy old man.

Just like a computer is nowadays helping shape a sound. What you hear nowadays is rarely "real" bar odd extreme artists. Where do you draw the line is another question.

I get your point, and I have no issue if AI is being used to help with separating and cleaning up tracks, like they did with the latest Beatles albums ( at least I understood that AI was part of that process?) and those mixes sound extremely good to my ears. However, when it comes to songwriting itself, that's where I draw the line for me. I think that the best songs/albums have been created when they're based on actual feelings, emotions and experiences of the artists, and they come straight from the heart. At least that's how I feel. AI can't do that and it just doesn't feel and sound real to me. (I'm talking about songs that are completely generated by AI) But each to their own, if people like AI music, they can go for it, there will be plenty of it available.

Tried to get tickets for the Madrid show and it was impossible. Three presales is just insane. The official sale is on Friday morning, but I'm not holding out much hope.

I got two tickets this morning for London, £366.70 for the pair which is stupidly expensive, especially as I'm block 403 and a fair distance from the stage. We're now at the point where a standard gig costs as much as a weekend camping festival used to cost me back in my teens in the mid to late 2000s. Its absolutely insane but I can make an exception for McCartney as I've not seen him since 2018. Good luck on Friday!

I managed to get tickets too and I'm not gonna lie there aren't many instances where I feel lucky for needing accessible tickets but this was one of them - ~£180 for me and nothing for my 'carer'. If I'd had to spend money for their ticket too I'd have had heart failure I think (the seat wasn't the best - block 419 to be precise - but hey, it's Paul McCartney and I've never seen him live so it's worth it!) Edit: thankfully there are accessible areas on every level so I might try to find a better seat during the general sale and then ask the venue to refund the money for the ticket I bought today (disabled tickets can't be resold cause of the extra ID requirements)... who knows if I'll succeed but even if I don't I'm prepared to put up with sitting up in the gods, it's Paul McCartney after all and I'm probably never gonna get another chance to see him!

I managed to secure a better ticket today in the general sale - it only cost me £35.10?? Considering I paid £186.60 on Wednesday for the worst seats in the entire venue, my jaw is on the floor

It's my girlfriend's dream to see Macca, but we missed out on these shows.
If anyone has a ticket but can't make it to the UK dates, please DM! We're desperate and willing to make you rich, ha.

How comes ? That's amazing cheap, where is the ticket based? In the wheelchair bays! I have a disability so unfortunately I can't ever be near the front, I was absolutely dumbfounded though because usually they're quite cheeky with disabled ticket prices seeing as whoever acts as the disabled person's carer is entitled to a free ticket (so therefore they lose money). It was absolutely incredible to see that they weren't taking disabled people for a ride (I paid about £60 to see Liam in the same venue and in the exact same place back in June so I expected to pay even more for Paul obviously)

Fair play to Macca, that's a nice move.
Well done for getting a ticket!
It's going to be a great night.

Word on the street is no Rubber Soul boxset this year. I guess they're saving it for the 60th anniversary next year.
Apparently instead we're getting a release related to the 'First US visit' VHS/DVD. So I guess a blu ray with added extras.

From here on out all the future Anniversary albums are spoiled because of the reissue of the Red and Blue compilations. For example that Red album featured 8 tracks (out of 14) from Rubber Soul. Granted the outtakes and demos could be excellent but they sort of aped this yearly anniversary project.

And it stinks because so many of those early tunes on the Red album sound amazing with the enhanced mixing. They really shine in my opinion. Incredible work. But now all the best stuff from those early albums he have now heard on those compilations.
