OK, I've listened almost 2 times now. I've got thoughts.............................
- This is definitely not what I was expecting at all after I pre-ordered the vinyl after the drop of Arabesque and Orphans. I thought this was gonna be a Viva type album.
- It isn't really a double album to me. Way too short. Could have easily just been condensed into a single album but whatever.
- The police dialogue in "Trouble In Town" really spoils the song for me. I get that they are trying to do but it'll age poorly and kinda takes me out of what many call an album highlight.
- There are not a lot of drums on this album. I guess Will is playing acoustic guitar.
- The album doesn't really have a band band type feel. A load of just Chris doing his thing with different musical approaches behind him.
- Loads of variety, gospel, camp fire singalongs, etc.
- At first I thought Daddy took the piano from “Famous Lost Painters”. Who knows.
- “When I Need A Friend” sounds like a Christmas church song.
- Makes more sense they played "Everyday Life" on SNL. Not too many straight forward band member songs on the LP.
- Not sure why they gave us 5 untitled and unlisted 5 sec instrumental tracks. Just make it a single track.
- Its early but it feels like a minor work and I got a feeling a much bigger album is coming later in 2020 (like the rumors suggest).
- Pretty obvious why they aren't touring this album.
- Very cool they are donating all proceeds from the album. Who does that?!?!?
- As someone said earlier, it doesn't sound like any of their previous releases.
- Highlights: Arabesque, Orphans, Champion of the World, Daddy. It’s early. Gonna give it the car test in a few. That’s the ultimate.

Just listened to the whole thing. I'll write a long track by track review tomorrow when I listen the entire record to formulate a solid opinnion. But my first impressions would be that is a really good album. With those singles there's no way I could see coming an album with such depth, quality music. I must say that everything isn't perfect but overall I feel really glad. This is the Coldplay album that I've been waiting for. Its not Viva La Vida 2 or AROBTTH 2 or Parachutes 2. Its Everyday Life. It has its own sound. And its fucking brilliant. Part 1 Sunrise was excelent. Really really well produced. If you liked Arabesque (not for its energy, for its deep sound and progression) you will be in love. Its really intimate but huge at the same time. It can go from a cinematic intro (made me shiver) to a church funeral-scene type choir. Honestly, in Sunrise there are true gems that will stay inside your soul for a long time. Part 2 Sunset was more inconsistent. I mean, it can be really good at times. Orphans, Champion of the world and Title track are absolutely unnecesary in a record like this. Okay, Orphans is really fucking catchy and that but after listening to part 1 and getting my mouth opened you just can't go back to A Head Full Of Dreams again. These 3 songs are better produced, for sure. But ruins a bit of the atmosphere that got built in the first place. But as I said, there are really great moments in this half. Eko is the first one that comes to my mind. But well, tomorrow I'll get deeper into the record to feel safe giving it a rating and because I could change my mind. Interesting, I like Champions of the World, its Echo and the Bunnymen, isn't it? Orphans is a really good track if stripped down, see the Official vid. Overall the album is a breath of fresh air after GS, MX and AHFOD. Lots of interesting stuff going on but I still hear heavy earlier Coldplay influence like U2 and as I said EaTBM much more so than their last few albums.

Listened again and I think I'm clear about what I think about Everyday Life.
It opens with Sunrise, an orchestal climatic song to set the mood. You can't help but feel curious about what's coming next. Since this is a band that appeared of Game Of Thrones, I can picture this song on a Lord Of The Rings film scene. Beautiful start that got me invested from the first listen. 10/10
Then comes Church, that brightens things up a bit. It reminded me of X&Y in a way, but more with the Ghost Stories production. It must be one of the most simple and straight forward songs of the first half. Nothing really sticks with me honestly but with the involving sounds of the guitar solo and the arabic female vocals I must say it has a nice touch. 6/10
Trouble In Town comes right after and its one of the best tunes of record if not the best. Lyrically is about racism, that's why it has an audio file about a cop unfairly threatening an afro american guy. Audio directly ripped of a video that went viral a couple years ago. The bass and the piano riff go on along with the vocal melody like Englishman In NY and when the rip audio comes, it explodes but not in an energetic way. More in a dark feel. Beautiful song that feels more serious and deep than anything off their last 3 efforts. 9/10
BrokEN softens things up. Happy gospel melodies. Nice little tune that flows really well after the dark path we were following at this point of the record. 7'5/10
Daddy could be the most heartfelt traditional song on the first part. I don't know if lyrically relates to the lost of a father, and since the album feels more personal to Chris Martin than anyone on the band, I could see that as a posibility. Its one sad song, nothing more nothing less. 5/10
WOTP/POPT is a little interlude that features Martin playing acousticly in what seems to be a forest. This record can turn to be really simple at times, but works really well. Its not even played right, there are little fails with the guitar and thats what makes it work. Most likely recorded with a phone, and those who are musicians around here have at least 2 recording like this one in their phones. And seing a band like Coldplay that a couple years ago where on the top playing gigs on stadiums and being everyfuckingwhere in the radio, doing a homemade recording of a demo feels satisfying. As it is an interlude it can't go deeper, but fuck me, it is a nice surprise. 7/10
Arabesque was the single that made me give an oportunity to the album. While Orphans and Everyday Life did nothing for me, Arabesque got me intrigued. Sure, there's nothing like this tune on the rest of the album, but we must admit that its brilliant for what it is. A mantra with air instrumentation that goes on and on and on progressing and involving the listeners. I read somewhere that the saxophone was played by Colin Stetson, one of the most talented musicians that is exists right now. A virtuous saxophonist that have made a horror film score with JUST his saxo. I'm talking about Hereditary, which is my favourite modern horror film of all time. And subjectivly, thats what makes me give it a 9/10
First half ends with When I Need A Friend and what a beautiful church chant outro. At the ending of the song there's some random guy (for its voice I can tell he is really old) telling a speech in Spanish which says: ''Look friend, this is for the people that are being laughed at. Because everyone thinks that is a mad thing, that its impossible. The problem is that everything is unbelievable and people wont accept it.'' And since I'm in Spain I'm not too sure what this means but ignoring that old bastard it was a beautiful outro. 9/10
I feel satisfied with the first half which overall was fantastic. Is something that I will be returning from time to time when I need to realize that there are some quality in the last record of Coldplay. At this point I can tell that I can see what they were heading at, but now is where things go up and down.
Guns open the second half of this album. Its a fast acoustic folky song. I can see people loving it, to me its a nice one but it feels like a b-side. As I said, its not a bad choice to open the second half but its definitely not on the same quality as the other half. 5/10
Orphans pushed me back to going into the record. I like more this version that the video one. I think that for contract things they had to have at least 2/3 songs for the radio and the promotion. So I understand why this ended up here. There are worst Coldplay songs with this vibe, which means that there must be something that this song is doing well enough. Lyrics are a bit cringey, specially when we came from a song like Trouble In Town that speaks about something serious in a dark way. 'Bombs go boomboboboom' and 'I wanna know where I can go to get drunk with my friends' can't be the best way to approach a serious lyrical theme. But it is a catchy fucker, I'll give you that. 5/10
Eko elevates things a little bit. It is one nice song and it retakes the path that we were following with the other half. Its a nice folky acostic song with a piano doing a riff constantly. The chorus is absolutely beautiful and heart wrenching. Reminded me of The Numbers by Radiohead, but the version Thom & Greenwood did in a live session on the woods, but in a poppier way. 8/10
Cry Cry Cry is a surprise honestly. Its more of a late night american hotel with a jazzy duo playing piano and singing, but with a Pentatonix touch. Nice little tune. 7/10
Old Friends comes right after and it has an acoustic riff like WOTP/POTP did. It is as beautiful as the other one, with the difference that this one is actually in a studio. This one resonates with Parachutes, but with an adult Chris Martin and a grown composition. 7/10
Bani Adam (the one with the arabic title) is an interlude that its almost intrumental but in the end has some arabic speech section. The cinematic vibe returns with this one and it surprises me that Martin wrote this tune. The same guy that three songs ago said that he wants to get drunk with his friends. It is a shame that the direction of the record feels inconsistent and specially with songs like this, where you can hear a profesional musician making art in the most polite way. 7/10
Champion Of The World must be the most traditional song that does its job better on this half. At least the riff is memorable, but still feels a bit childish in comparison with the quality material of the record. Big chorus for the stadiums and nothing much. 6/10
Everyday Life finishes the second half and left me feeling weird. Because the intention was there, the direction was there and the quality was there. But they got lost in the way. The last song is most likely the most boring of the record. I can see people liking it, specially the ones that enjoyed the last effort (if that kinda people exist) but to me is a 3/10
CONCLUSSION Everyday Life makes me think that there is still hope. There is still hope for the band that gave birth to Viva La Vida. A beautiful record with the variety and depth of a double album. In this case, we got the startards of a normal album, but split if a half. Don't get me wrong, the first part was beautifully executed but I don't see the point in splitting it when you can put the material of the second half that goes along with the other in just one album. And it would've been a perfect one. Maybe I need to digest it a little bit more. But I feel like the tracks that needs more listens are the ones that I'm amazed with. Overall its been a good listen, with its hits and its misses. So I'll go for a 7'3 / 10. Not enough to be 7'5 but its better than a solid 7.
Cheers!

People are losing their shit over “Trouble In Town”. Good song but the dialogue is really taking me out of the song. The message works without the clip. I’m just not into spoken word clips like this in songs. They don’t age well. Like the scissor queen in Its A Beautiful World. Holmes should have cooked up some sonic magic for that part.

The album is all over the map in a white album kind of way. Not in pop culture impact or influence but in terms of variety of music and recordings. You got instrumentals, choirs, acoustic takes, polished studio numbers, police dialogue, and strings.
Still mentally unpacking it all.
I believe the rumors. Another album will grace is in the later part of 2020.

Can't say anything about the whole album yet, but "Orphans" and "Arabesque" are two bloody good tunes. I never thought I would say that about Coldplay, but I'm eagerly awaiting the whole album and I'll buy it once it's officially available

By my count there are only about 6 real full band “band” type songs. A lot of stuff is obviously instrumentals of instruments the fellas don’t actually perform with, others are just Chris and a choir or Chris with an acoustic guitar. I will say this, the full band stuff all sounds terrific. Capped off by Arabesque.

Yeah, the 2nd half of Bani Adem is early U2 and unashamedly so.

I really don't care for Arabesque or the other single that was released. If I don't like either of those two, should I even bother with listening to the rest? I have had zero desire to return to either of those songs.

I'm excitedly curious as to what you mean by that... The first half is a simple piano tune, then it goes into (Arabic?) spoken word with a tune behind it that sounds exactly like early U2. From the guitars to the bass line its pure early U2 sound, like something straight off of War. Must say I'm liking Church more and more. First few listens it sounds avarage but the more I listen, the more I get it. Like a cross between Speed of Sound and Birds, it would've been destroyed on AHFOD, but its not, its subtle and airy.

I was very excited about the new 2xLP Orphans and Arabesque are two different styles songs I have the whole album It's a bit complicated to say if I like it or not But when I listen to this 2xLP with AirPods it's better, almost biblical As some said before Chris Martin is the leader of the album He now says "fuck" ! yes he does
For me it's not their best album but certainly the album I will like to be quiet at home and to chill

I think they'll announce the "traditional" album at the end of the Jordan show they have coming up, and the release date will be a month after that (think December 20 or 27 release date) to cash in on the holiday sales. Then we'll get a big single either in that one month time frame or right after the album is dropped.
