Dunno what song you lot have been listening to. Sounds pretty fucking great to me, better than most of WBTM actually
Does remind me a bit of the music they play in H&M though.

Song is not bad actually, could have been on WBTM and people would love it.That 3 song's EP is what's confusing me. What's the point ? Are those leftovers from David Holmes sessions ?

I get it... he needs a couple of new tunes to play at the gigs this summer and couldn't get a full album out by then. Expect another album in Oct/Nov.

Noel is listed as sole producer so it doesn’t look like this track is a WBTM leftover. He went on about writing songs on a bass at home in 2017. This sounds like one of those songs, possibly recorded with the band in Abbey Road. X

I mean, it doesn't really do anything for me. This one will depend on my mood how often I listen to it. Can't really get in on the 70s funk vibe in this era

Not my cup of tea to be honest. Like someone else said there are little flashes where it sounds like it is gonna be really good but then just retreats to dross. I like how it builds though, by the end of it I was like okay I can see how someone could like this. First minute though I absolutely hated it.
From 3 listens, 4/10.

On first listen I don't like it. Sounds like something left on the cutting room floor during the recording of WBTM, and rightfully so.

If I never heard this song again, I wouldn't mind. Usually not a good sign of a decent song.

Sounds like an artist who is trying to trade heart for being cool. He's certainly being true to himself with this, but I still don't feel convinced of that when I'm listening to it. Why? Because it sounds strategically and purposefully anti-Oasis.
I'm either not old nor rich enough for this, or I didn't spend enough time in the Hacienda on E.

X It'd be funny if he wrote it at home because it would pretty much blow up the argument that the reason the songs of WBTM "aren't" good was because Noel had been writing in the studio instead of at home (which has always sounded like an overly simplistic case of causality or finger pointing to me toward something that anyone with any ounce of musical training would find pretty laughable).

Its grown on me a bit. Granted i'm a 'parka monkey' but i did like Noels last album. This i dont know, sounds like dad disco. I do feel if Noels name wasnt behind it i wouldnt give it the time of day.
So you do have on one side 'Liam fans' probably laughing at this, but i do feel you also have diehard Noel fans who would praise it even if it was 3 minutes sound of Noel pissing into a toilet.
Its the first new tune for like 2 years and i dont know, just expected more. Its 'alright' but hmmmmmm

It's alright. I like the groove but it doesn't really take off, does it?

You're twisting what has been said. Again, I don't think anyone has a problem with Noel writing in the studio, Bag It Up and The Turning got written in the studio I believe for Dig Out Your Soul? Brilliant songs. The problem lies with ONLY being allowed to write in the studio, it's restricting what songs he can use therefore the overall quality of the album could suffer. I don't care if it's written in the studio or at home, as long as it's good.

Listened to it a few times now, I like it. The guitar solo (sounds like Strangeboy?), funk guitar and prominent female backing vocals are all highlights for me. That said it's one of the weaker singles he's released. Still pretty good though! 7.5/10

I’m sure there’ll be another more uptempo single prior to the album coming out. X

X Seeing how prominent it is on the EP (Title track + 12" Mix + Reflex Revision) I'd be surprised if it wasn't the standout track or at least the most immediately likeable. Any idea what's actually going on with Noel currently? I've only half been keeping track. I thought it was Sardy release + Holmes release? Though from what I've read this is self produced? Hmm. So EP in June 14th and LP later in the year (October?)?

So EP in June 14th and LP later in the year (October?)? We don’t know for sure. Just rumours. He recorded in Abbey Road in Nov with the band. I’d bet that’s where this song was recorded as it has the girls on it. Also, Nile Rogers apparently called it dope and Nile Rogers was at Abbey Road at the same time, so assume that’s when he heard it. Info on what happened with Sardy in January is non-existent. Maybe recording. Given the small timeframe I’m guessing he might have just mixed a few tracks. Little info on what’s happening with Holmes, but given how long WBTM took, with sessions spread out over years, I’d bet it’s a self or Sardy produced album coming out later this year, with a Holmes album still in progress for a later year. Or he’s mixing tracks from all the above to make one album. We’ll find out soon enough. X

Is it too soon to say it might be the worst NG written single ever released?

This sounds cool! The only gripe I have with it is that it can't decide if it's going to be a hard-hitting Tame Impala-crossed-with Arcade Fire's Reflektor disco track, or if it's going to be something more spacey. I feel it should take off, but also that it doesn't need to? I would love another run through the "I'm gonna shine on..." chorus at the end but either way, after first listen, I really like this. It's a good realization of what Noel has been trying to do since he first did What a Life, which is to do something fun and dance-y that's still interesting and different from what other people are doing. I'd love to have a whole album of production like this, too, because it sounds so damn good.
8/10

Same problem I had with WBTM - I’m glad he’s changed up his style (lord knows he’s needed to for a while,) but I just find the actual songwriting lacking. All the bells and whistles in the world can’t cover up a forgettable melody. It’s almost as if Noel gets so excited doing something different that he forgets to actually make it GOOD.
I think it might serve him better to sit down and write a great NG song on his acoustic THEN mess around with the arrangement dramatically until it doesn’t SOUND like him anymore while still retaining the compositional strength we all know he’s capable of. Rather than first trying to come up with a groove or something that feels different then hanging a mediocre song on it.
5/10 for me. Nothing terrible. Wouldn’t bother me it if it came on in some clothing store. But that’s not saying much for the man who’s written some of my all time favorite songs.
