Figured we needed a place to dump fun news and upcoming releases for Record Store Day 2019. Can't wait. Pearl Jam were named this year's ambassadors. Hopefully they cook up a good release! Other interesting news is a Japanese company is making mini record players for 3 inch vinyl. No joke. recordstoreday.com/NewsItem/8238

The concept of RSD is shite. It just serves the few who have access to the limited stuff earlier than the rest of us and resell it at horrendous prices.

Those people still gotta stand in line to get these items. Nothing is sold online or reserved in advance. I know that if I show up at my store on RSD at 8 am (doors at 9am) there is usually 40-50 people in line. I normally lineup at 7 with about 15-20 before me. So you def gotta dedicate yourself to get said albums.

But the real deals are made with the stuff under the counter.

I guess I’ve been fortunate with my loyal indie record shops. I salute them. Your "loyal indie record shops" sell parts of the good stuff on Ebay as well, just not with their official accounts. Just like everyone else.

It's just the truth and I can't even blame them. In the days of declining physical sales: why should the owners leave the majority of the profits to some blokes standing in line one day of the year and buying their records on Amazon the other 364 days?

Record store day is a nice idea but honestly it's the other 364 days of the year I get most excited about getting myself into a record shop. The RSD promos are interesting but not usually anything I'd listen to, maybe only once. The regular stock and "just in" sections are what I love digging through.

Nothing for me so far. Pink Floyd - A Saucerful Of Secrets Mono would be great.

Stupid question: is record store day only vinyl? I've never partaken, and I don't have a record player....
Thanks.

Stupid question: is record store day only vinyl? I've never partaken, and I don't have a record player.... Thanks. Yes, it is and it's not a stupid question at all. I completely agree with Lennon2217. I'm very happy with my local record shop. I feel like a little girl with a nice Christmas present at RSD every year. Queuing at the front of your local record shop in the morning to get records you want, brilliant.

I’m very curious what Pearl Jam will releases. My top contenders are:
- Mirror Ball (would love this but think Neil and his record label own rights) - Lost Dogs - Live at Benaroya Hall

The U2 looks interesting. But, of course, it will probably be overpriced, along with everything else.

..and some releases are "RSD exclusive", some are only "RSD first" and some are "RSD limited-run/regional focus" releases. Sometimes releases are labeled as "RSD exclusive" but in fact the colour of the vinyl is the only thing that is exclusive and a regular edition will be released afterwards.

If you're up for exclusive RSD releases, you go to stand in a queue early morning at the front of your local record shop to get them like myself and lennon. If you're not up for it, just don't purchase anything on RSD. So simple is that. I have no regrets for my past RSD purchase.

That includes all of my past RSD purchases. I don't have too much of an issue paying more than I normally would for a RSD purchase since it helps these indie record stores stay in business.

If you're up for exclusive RSD releases, you go to stand in a queue early morning at the front of your local record shop to get them Nope, you don't have to. Especially many Major Label releases are pressed in such high volumes nowadays, no one needs to stand in line. You can easily grab them afterwards without paying a fortune. If you're not up for it, just don't purchase anything on RSD. There's something in between.

Anyway, it's my money and my time. Nobody has to tell me not to stand in a queue at RSD day or not to spend my money to buy RSD releases. If I want to do it, I do it. Simple is that. I can't wait to see this year's RSD release list. Happy RSD day, my fellow music lovers!
