Impressive, but also weird Good find! I think this is spot on Liam’s Big O tweet has nearly 300,000 likes. Of course Robbie Williams and the Mercury Prize want a piece of that kind of free publicity.

Isn’t the Mercury Prize supposed to highlight new talent? Noel, AM, Florence, Lily Allen... Quality of their music aside, none of them deserve to win if the point is to highlight innovative music created by less well known musicians. Here’s hoping for King Krule.

Yes,promoting new talent is among the goals of the award, but they are also supposed to choose the best albums, so it's not unusual that established acts get nominated. Radiohead, David Bowie, Arctic Monkeys or Damon Albarn have all been nominated in recent years

Or maybe, and I know this sounds crazy, people MIGHT actually think that WBTM is a very good album. Crazy, I know!

Shoot me but, I don’t think it’s deserved.

Lily Allen is on the list so this is hardly an achievement.

Lily Allen is on the list so this is hardly an achievement. Yeah, being nominated to the Mercurys is a total failure, everybody knows that

Nice one. Not the biggest fan of the Album but I like that he's tried something a bit different and recognition like this will hopefully convince him to carry on rather than retreat like he has in the past.

Radiohead, David Bowie, Arctic Monkeys or Damon Albarn have all been nominated in recent years Fair but this seems like a greater amount of well known acts compared to the last few years. Even some of the newer acts like Wolf Alice were already nominated. Looks more like the Brits. Not to knock Noel or any of those acts, the award itself just seems aimless.

Love it when all the music snobs who come out the cracks when the Mercury nominations are revealed. Twitter is absolutely riddled with them at the moment.

Noel Gallagher: I don’t need vindication for leaving Oasis
Former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has said his 2018 Mercury Prize nomination as a solo artist has not vindicated his decision to leave the band. Since leaving the band he played in with his singer brother Liam, Gallagher has released three albums with his solo project High Flying Birds. Now album Who Built The Moon? is among the 12 albums up for the prestigious prize. On leaving Oasis, Gallagher said: “I don’t need vindication for that. “The three records that I’ve made were the best records I could have made at that point. This is just another sign post. “Award ceremonies are great. Being nominated for this that and the other is fantastic. “You don’t want to do them down because they do mean something. “But if I don’t win, and I probably won’t, the album is still a great album because I say it is. And that’s it. “When I come out of the studio with the finished thing for you lot to listen to, I think it’s amazing. “Nothing will change that. The fact that I haven’t been nominated for 30 years doesn’t mean I haven’t loved every record that I have made.” Oasis were nominated for the Mercury Prize for their first two albums, Definitely Maybe and (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?
