Damn Albarn just churns out the albums doesn't he, I said he's the Bowie of our times and I stand by that. I loved the last Gorillaz album, and loved the first album from THTBTQ so let's hope it's as good as the first album.

According to reddit something is coming on Thursday. Song title is "Song Machine Theme Tune", so it could be the opening song from the tv series they announced a while ago.

There's supposedly a couple things coming. New song with Slowthai and Slaves on Thursday, and possible the "Theme tune" to something? People speculating a new album, which would be awesome. Theres been a bit of activity from Gorillaz over past 6 months on Social Media etc, postcards from the virtual band members talking about a "machine".

Probably my favourite thing Gorillaz have done since Demon Days.
I loved the debut album and Demon Days, Plastic Beach was good but lost the "magic" of Gorillaz a little, was a bit too whimsical rather than the dark pop I'd come to enjoy from them. Humanz was pretty awful, bar a couple tunes. The Now Now was not bad, but a little dull in places.
This sounds energetic, interesting, and creative without being shit, love it.

Definitely a throwback. I think Gorillaz have long missed that guitar driven sound so it's a more than welcome return. Slowthai & Slaves are perfect for a Gorillaz collaboration so it's good to see them onboard. On first listen I think the song is a fun listen and good but far from their best stuff. I'd have liked to have heard Slowthai rapping as, like Little Simz, I think it would have fitted the Gorillaz sound really well but ah well. Pleased to have them back again so soon and I hope they can turn it back around after Humanz & The Now Now.

Such a nice surprise. It has a bit of DoYaThing + phase 1 vibes.

I was extremely disappointed. It was just an average mundane Gorrilaz song with an irritating rap part. Glad people are enjoying it, but it's not for me.

I've been listening to this since it was released and I like it more each time. It's such a fun and catchy song, first time they've done anything like this since the selftitled. And I love the little Mac Demarco style kind of riff on the intro/outro.
I hope the rest of the project/album/whatever keeps the same level.

I liked Humanz more then most on here, it had it's faults (lack of Albarn led tracks) and far too much leaning into rap and hip hop but it's still a very good album. And The Now Now had one of my favorite Gorillaz singles in Humility, it was a solid album.
I like the first taster from this new album.

Saturnz Barz is the only properly good thing Gorillaz have put out in nearly a decade.

And The Now Now had one of my favorite Gorillaz singles in Humility, it was a solid album. I like the first taster from this new album. Some of the tracks I was less keen on when the album was first released have grown on me now and I'd be hard pressed to say that the album was anything else but good. I'm still passing on 'Carnival', 'Sex Murder Party' and 'Hallelujah Money' and I think the interludes add surprisingly little but that still leaves 11 (out of 14) full songs I believe are pretty good. I think that the bonus tracks 'New World', 'The Apprentice' and 'Out of Body' were all strong enough to warrant their inclusion as was the stand alone singles 'Sleeping Powder' and 'Garage Palace' though I think they may have been written after Humanz was released. Regardless I think it's a flawed but good release and I could imagine some people being big fans of it. The Now Now has yet to sell itself to me however. Saturnz Barz is the only properly good thing Gorillaz have put out in nearly a decade. If we're talking post Plastic Beach, I'd agree that the band have certainly been underperforming but I think they've still released some decent stuff. I thought 'DoYaThing' (2012) was great (nice video too) and 'Ascension' was very respectable too.

Tbh I don't like this one at all and I think the rap is awful. Hopefully the next one is better.

Is the tame Impala collab a hoax or real?

The collaborations are there, the sonic trickery is there, all in all the elements that should make great music..... but it's all just rather meandering and insipid from Gorillaz since Plastic Beach.
I sometimes think the overall gimmick overwhelms but beneath that veneer is something rather hollow from Damon Albarn. There's no tunes attached to these songs like Feel Good Inc or Dirty Harry. Interesting that Demon Days is the only truly brilliant piece of work from Gorillaz as it was done in collaboration with Danger Mouse - seems like Albarn needs another foil to make this properly work in my opinion.

I like the odd thing Gorillaz has done over the past 10 years, but nothing will come close to the brilliant craft of Demon Days or the eccentric unsettling genius of the self titled debut. Both of these albums each had their own dark pop demonic vibe to them which I feel is what made them such a statement. The concept of Gorillaz and the characters etc was so vibrant during the first two album cycles aswell. Plastic Beach had a vibe but it was much more childish than the first two albums, almost too whimsical. Humanz was barely even Gorillaz. The Now Now was decent but lacked any sort of theme or impact. This phase has been promising so far but yet to impress.
