So, should I watch Blade Runner? Yes, I´ve never seen it. Possibly the greatest film ever made - how could you not have seen it?

Well, Coldplay first two albums show way more songwriting talent than anything Turner has ever put out. Chris Martin is a vastly more talented songwriter than Turner. Depends on what sort of songs you like. He's definitely better at writing big ballads. I'm a fan of A Rush of Blood to the Head but only the odd song after that, Violet Hill is brilliant for example. I feel they went down the wrong path and picked popularity over the music. Arctic Monkeys sometimes sound a bit bland but I way prefer that style of music, so he's a better songwriter to me.

Decided to take a listen their past albums, started with Suck It and See, my good I forgot how bland it is, there is a lack of energy and they sound bored with the material, the singles aren't that great and Brick being the first single wasn't a good move, but there still great songs like She's Thurderstorms, Black Treacle and Love is a Laserquest.

About time they released a b-sides album similar to The Masterplan, don't think they ever will but it would be an easy way to cash in on some of their older, less known material. They have the songs to do it for sure, something like this would be a good see -
1 - Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts 2 - Settle for a Draw 3 - What if you were Right First Time 4 - Plastic Tramp 5 - Too Much to Ask 6 - Catapult 7 - Fright Lined Dining Room 8 - The Afternoons Hat 9 - The Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap 10 - Evil Twin 11 - Little Illusion Machine 12 - 2013 13 - You're So Dark 14 - Stop The World I Wanna Get Off With You

It really is. It sounds like an album that was made by a bunch of blokes pushing fifty, coasting it because they've already released over ten LPs. That it was put out as their fourth album, when they were all still in their mid-twenties, is frankly staggering. Definitely the worst one they've done, in my opinion. It was a bad decision to record it live, I think.

Vinyl sale "records" in 2018 don't impress me. We all know its a niche/buzzy sub section of music collecting in todays society. Now if it was 1974 and you said that then you have my attention.

I took the opposite stance. I was never a big fan of Favorite Worst Nightmare (sounds like a mad sprint from the start) or Humbug (absolute sludge of a recording). So when Suck It and See came down the pipe it felt refreshing and measured. So many catchy tunes like Black Treacle, The Hellcat Spangled Shalala, Piledriver Waltz, Love is a Laserquest, Suck It and See and Thats When You're Young. I also feel like Don't Sit Down Because I Moved Your Chair was the type of song I wanted with the Josh Homme hookup but never came. Dark and sinister.

I haven't posted here for the best part of a year - and probably won't again for a long time - so just gonna put in my opinion, if only to wind up Beady's Here Now (and probably everyone else here):
All 6 AM albums > anything Gallagher related in the last 20 years.

I agree with you somehow, their first two albums, while great and with awesome songs, they don't do much for me anymore now, I think their debut and Favourite Worst Nightmare are great albums for when you are in your teenage years or early twenties. With Humbug and SIAS they became more mature, with more deliberate paced songs and not that adrenaline rush of the first two albums, while both have their problems(how they sound) now I much prefer listening to Humbug and SIAS than their first two, even if they are inferior works.

I like: - that people are talking about this album. Last album brought them popularity all over the world and now even some people that you would never expect to talk about some new rock album, are talking about it. I like to think ( pretend) that new rock record is important especially because I never felt that feeling and I am always imagining what it was like to follow all the hype when Sgt. Pepper was released or Dark Side of the Moon or Morning Glory...To talk with your friends about it, to discuss this new album that came out. - some weird lyrics and melodies. Whether is good or bad, again I like that people are talking about it and that it won't leave you indifferent. It's like howling dog in Pink Floyd's song, maybe its shite but its now part of pop culture and people are talking about it. - that even if I still don't like this album, some parts of songs and some lyrics are stucked in my head. SHE-LOOKS-LIKE-FUN! Technological advanceeees , really bloody get me in the moooooooood... I just wanted to be one of The Strokes Now look at the mess you made me make... And I never thought, not in a million year, that I'd meet so many Lolas... What do you mean you've never seen Blade Runner?
Again, there is lot to talk about, make memes... - that they send one big FUCK OFF to everyone who became fan because of Do I Wanna Know. I'm sure that they had some great offers after AM and that there were people convinsing them that they can be new Coldplay or Maroon 5. This could be a record with Miley Cyrus guest appearances and stuff like that, so big respect to the boys because they made this kind of record. I don't like: - that all those thing that I wrote that I like, doesn't change the fact that I feel that Alex is going in circles as a songwriter. I can see him in his bathrobe at 2am, doing his Elvis impression and writing Number One Party Anthem for the 20th time. Thats how I feel this album was made.

Four Out Of Five reminds me of The Killers in spots, especially the chorus.

Coldplay went the Maroon 5 route after Viva la Vida, Turner is doing the opposite currently which is far more interesting. Coldplay is garbage fast food that you enjoy for a second but never think of again and Arctic Monkeys always have something more to chew on for repeated listenings. Is Martin a good melodist? Of course, but he wants to be a pop star and written stuff for teenage girls. That's not interesting in the slightest when you get to a certain age and aren't into that type of thing. What Turner did, and really it's a Turner solo record in everything but name, is galling at first listen but sticks in your head in its own way and actually makes you want to listen to it again, rather than being annoyed that sweet as shit song that makes your teeth hurt to listen to it again type of tune that Martin writes (or co-writes?) these days does. Night and day difference between the two. This!

My mate says the reaction to this album is similar to when SOTSOG was released.
I think both are good albums.

Not surprised that they have smashed the vinyl record, as there has been a ridiculous amount of editions from day one. Gold, silver, clear and standard black coloured vinyl. Special lyric book from HMV. Talk about flooding the market.

After a week listening to it, it's definitely a album that unlocks it greatness with repeated listens. It's Turner's and Co's version of Bowie mid 70's pomp, Young American and Station to Station era for sure. Throw in a bit of Beach Boy's Pet Sounds and Beatles's Abbey Road with Turner Lyric pomp. But also not sounding like Monkeys too if you know what I mean. It's definitely one of the bravest moves from a big band I've seen in quite a while.
You can hear the Bowie influence on The title track, Star Treatment, One Point Perspective and Four out of Five. Loving Turner mixing up his vocals on this. Like some Lounge Lizard in a seedy 70's L.A Bar. She Look's like Fun and The Ultracheese have Lennon written all over them. Golden Trunk's and American Sports are also standout's.
As I said earlier last week not a album that will please many expecting big anthems like past albums. But it's an album that will be the making of them for the future cause no one will be shocked with what they come out with next.

Likewise I never bothered to give them a listen until Suck It & See - that was the first album of theirs I really enjoyed. I loved Alex’s stylistic shift in becoming a crooner, maturing from the young wide eyed primal singer who spat his vocals out. A transition album, one that was essential in leading them away from the original slap dash post-punk formula. That formula was great then but you can’t have them writing the same tunes as millionaires away from Sheffield. It would be the same old, same old with ever diminishing returns, sadly replicating Oasis. I’ve not actually bought this album yet but I’m very intrigued to hear it - the concept sounds like something out of Thunderbirds! I loved A.M., and even if I don’t like it, I’d still applaud an admirable failure over a bog standard lazy ho hum collection of songs. Although I’m not a massive fan, I really like this band and they’re a rarity in that their albums are still big events but they seem to be constantly refreshing themselves and ageing gracefully without looking backwards or to the mainstream for answers. For a guitar band from an era awash with landfill indie shite like The Enemy, Twisted Wheel, Razorlight, etc that’s especially rare.

Don't know why anyone pays him any attention, to be honest. But then the whole YouTubers thing goes right over my head. I only go on there to watch music videos, or clips of movies/TV shows, or footage from gigs. I don't want to watch people play games, or to see how they first reacted to a new song or trailer for a film. I'm not saying I've got it right and everyone who watches those things has it wrong; I just can't find it within myself to be arsed about what anyone who is not a media personality or "expert" in some way has to say about culture, when I'm on the internet.

Looking forward to seeing what you make of it, matt. Myself, I'm really chuffed with it. Not always been Turner's biggest fan, but the boy done good here, I think.
