Could be a mix of Gallagher/Weller bitterness given Weller played keyboards on Holy Mountain. But for Alan's departure I thought he had a fallen out with Liam, not Noel. No one who ever left Oasis fell out with Liam, besides Noel himself.

I do recall that até the time, in an interview with Liam AND Noel, it was alluded to the fact that Alan and Liam had fallen out, and Noel saying something along the lines of having to choose between the Singer (and brother) and the drummer (and choosing the Former) because it was "the best for the band". Also recall Steve initially saying There was a problem with "the brothers". Implying both of them.

None of us know what happened with any departure within the band.

He wasn't ranting he's watching his tv and making a comment about it. Just like thousands of other people do, just like we do. Well we'll have to agree to disagree, and I don't know how much you've seen of him with Weller but he does subtle as well as he does powerful, he would have never lasted with Paul that long if he didn't. I also don't know how he didn't fit Oasis, those video's from the Greek Theatre are amazing he gave a drive to those songs they hadn't had before. I totally understand people who like his style, but i prefer Alan's. When he was in Oasis he gave a different take on those songs, i agree with you. but i'm not really a Weller fans so maybe i associate his style with Weller's songwriting. As for the rant, I dont know, seems like misplaced bitterness although his brother owes his career and lifestyle to the Gallaghers. I find it weird that's all.

Tony McCarroll's book is pretty clear on his departure being down to Noel and Bonehead is still one of Liam's close mates.

What is weird here is someone's believing what is written in a "biography" book. Might as well believe what is written in The Sun dude. Seriously can't believe people believe those kind of shit.

It's an autobiography. It's objectively true that Tony has an issue with Noel and doesn't with Liam (or anyone else in the band iirc).

I wouldn't believe an autobiography written by Noel or Liam either. It's good fun, a good read, but it's one person view of things, not the truth. I'm not denying Noel had troubles with McCarroll but the other did not really defend or helped the guy stay in the band either. They're all responsible and Tony first, he simply was not good enough. Having a very limited drummer can totally ruin a band. Especially one that's about to become huge. There's a history of sacking drummers in rock n roll in many bands for that very same reason.

I don't believe that his version of events is true, but he has a problem with Noel that he doesn't have with Liam or anyone else who was around at the time. That's what the argument is about. Nobody is saying that everything that Tony, the Real People, Amorphous Androgenous, Bonehead and Liam have to say about Noel is the absolute truth, but the fact remains that they don't have relationships with him any more.

Having a very limited drummer can totally ruin a band. Especially one that's about to become huge. There's a history of sacking drummers in rock n roll in many bands for that very same reason. Tony doesn't really paint himself as the hero of his own story, though. He acknowledges pushing Noel's buttons, and being warned about it by Maggie. His point of view is that he never stopped treating Noel as just one of the gang, same as they all did before they were signed and Noel's vital importance to the band made him the leader. He also acknowledges having personal issues with Guigsy, but he doesn't have a bad thing to say about Liam or Bonehead. I know less than nothing about quality drumming. I can tell you that I like a particular drummer's sound, but I couldn't possibly explain why that is. It may very well be that Noel's being absolutely truthful and Tony's drumming wouldn't have been enough for the increasing complexity of his tunes. But based on the little bits and pieces that have come out from either side over the years, it does feel like Tony's sacking was mainly due to Noel having had enough of his attitude.

I think the reality is that Noel is telling the truth about it being that Tony wasn't good enough, but that Noel chose passive aggression and bullying rather than confronting the issue.

Liam could have demanded that any of those ousted members remain in the band, but he didn't.

No, the full version of Noel's quote does contradict it: "For the record, I still miss that boy cause he's a good lad. But he started to act like a session musician. And something happened between him and Liam. I don't know what. And if it's a case of siding with your brother or siding with the drummer, I'm afraid the brother wins out. But he kinda didn't turn up for some really important stuff." You can find it at 3:38 here: SaveSave

There are also just rumors that he was responsible for the HC leak. Never knew if that was fan fiction or not.

It could have been by accident. His copy could have been left in a car, a bus, train, etc. who knows. It did leak crazy early. 3 months.

Yeah I also remember at the time there were a lot of rumours that the main issue was between Liam and Whitey, not Noel, and that Alan was more interested anyway in his real estate businesses

“But he started to act like a session musician...” I wonder what that means?? Maybe just playing his part and checking out. I sure loved his drumming though.
