They also put the b-sides on the 5 CD super deluxe version while the 2 CD version has some live versions instead. Annoys the hell out of me - I want those b-sides, but I don't want to pay 50+ bucks for additional live versions and a DVD. Seems like a cash grab. I think you're paying the kind of money you would for a big boxset like that (or any other), you really should get it all. It's not casual fans buying these, its the biggest fans and completists so its kind of insulting to purposely leave things off there. What was the reason for this omission? Richard Ashcroft not signing off on those tracks or something? Is it true McCabe leaked them? Excuse my language. Basically, Richard is a bitter ego-damaged bitch who wants the world to think he is the overall mastermind behind the album. Truth is, from actual engineers who were there and even Potter himself, when Nick returned the album started to come together - and actually, Potter is a mixer, Nick is the real final producer of the album. That "The Verve" production credit on A Northern Soul, Urban Hymns and Forth? All Nick. From what I understand, Richard states that he wrote All Ways Are Maybes on his lonesome and the dispute starts with Nick saying that was a piece where the band had the Melody and Richard layered his improvided vocals (which he's good at compared to making his own songs). Nick believes the disc was vetoed because Richard intends to use some of the tracks for future solo records, but that's hard to believe since no way Richard is using King Riff 2 and Wednesday Madness for instance. So there you have it, Ashcroft seems intent in shitting on his legacy for no reason other than his inability to pack it in and get his head of his ass.

So much under-written nonsense on the original album, though.

I thought Splashh, Superfood and Bully all had more potential than their releases this year delivered. Like many have already said Gorillaz's new album was disappointing. It's such a mess of an album. I don't listen to my own album playlists but I've made an exception (though this may change upon hearing the Super Deluxe Edition bonus tracks and remixes I haven't gotten around to listening to yet):
1) Ascension 2) Strobelite 3) Saturnz Barz 4) Momentz 5) Charger 6) New World 7) The Apprentice 8) Garage Palace 9) Out of Body 10) Andromeda 11) Let Me Out 12) We Got The Power
37 mins. Is it Gorillaz standard? Nah, not quite but I couldn't knock that much. That's a good album.

Rhiannon Giddens’s latest album. Didn’t reach the heights of her debut.
