The thing that definitely concerns me here in Noel's view on The Beach Boys. Utter insanity. Brian Wilson is a complete and utter genius, and at his height, was capable of musical abilities and melodic sensibility that Noel could only dream of. It's actually infuriating for Noel to keep acting as if Brian Wilson isn't one of the all time greats. It's just ignorance.

To be fair, since Liam surfaced in early summer to announce and promote AYW, he’s been insulting and attacking Noel left and right. Noel was silent all summer and fall. Now that’s hre promoting MOON he is finally retorting. They both suck. But don’t act like Liam didn’t play a major role in this after a summer of insults. His twitter timeline is a Noel Gallagher punching doll. Sure, and I cringe everytime Liam insults Noel on twitter like a children that just cant let it go. It's an embarassing situation and I blame both. But I hate Noel playing the part of the adult and witty one, when he's not better than Liam and is saying things as bad as him. I no longer buy it. At least he was funny some time ago, but now he's just angry. Amen, this thing was boring for me few months ago, now it is just fucking annoying, BOTH SIDES. And fuck this stupid childish team thing it's annoying too.

Has he mentioned them? That would be so cool to me. Absolutely love that band...one of the handful of forgotten rock acts I’ve been introducing to everyone I could for years now...

Never thought I'd purposely avoid reading interviews with Noel, but that's what its come to. Let us hope he doesn't reach Morrisey levels of awfulness.

Actually, I think Pet Sounds is a masterpiece, one of the 5 most influential albums in history, but I also think much of his other work is derivative. I would say that if you listen to Pet Sounds, some parts of Smile and a greatest hits of the Beach Boys, you do not need nothing else from Brian Wilson

At least he's consistent - he's been saying that about the Beach Boys since day 1!

Yeah, it's pretty cool. Here's an interview from 1999 of him talking about them: oasisinterviews.blogspot.ca/1999/01/noel-gallagher-mojo-january-1999.htmlThis is the 2006 interview (go to 7:50) where Noel talks about wanting to do a solo album called "Noel Gallagher Sings the songs of The Left Banke": In 2011, Liam and Andy Bell chose the Left Banke comp, There's Gonna Be a Storm, as one of their 13 favourite albums: thequietus.com/articles/06013-beady-eye-on-their-13-favourite-records?page=9

Thanks for this link. I miss all the old Noel interviews from the late 90s. All pre-internet that you can't really find online because they were never published on that medium. Kinda lost in the sands of time unless you own the magazines at home like I do. Fun reads.

Noel likes The Left Banke? That's awesome.
Edit: I don't think I've ever read that the Quietes article with Liam and Andy. Great taste in music. Was a bit surprised to see the Bee Gees on their list though.
Now I really want to hear Liam cover a Bee Gees song.

Noel is a huge Bee Gees fan from way back. Not surprising - that Bee Gees 1st album is not only a fantastic record but as close to sounding like The Beatles as any band other than The Beatles ever got in the 60s (apart from maybe some of the one-off garage bands). Oasis did cover The Bee Gees*, incidentally, on the Brotherly Love tour. They did To Love Somebody. I've never heard it but I'd love to. *EDIT: I guess officially The Black Crowes covered it and Noel and Gem joined them on it. Don't know who did what or if Noel sang on it at all.

Apparently one of their early singles was sent to radio's without the tape mentioning it was by the Bee Gees, which made DJ's think it actually was the Beatles. I think there are only a couple of songs that sound a bit Beatles-y (they were one of their inspirations and huge, how could it not be?), but overall even their early material has a distinct sound IMO. I love the Bee Gees. My grandma was a huge fan so I grew up hearing them a lot. Ah, didn't know that. Not really Oasis then

Bee Gees are great. I like all their periods of music except for Life In A Tin Can. Melodic geniuses, though Robin was always the best in my opinion and had the most interesting voice to boot. Even their solo material is pretty good. I adore the posthumous, 50 St. Catherine's Drive. I wish it had been released on vinyl.

As an Oasis fan, I get so frustrated with people saying, "They just rip off The Beatles" that in my head I think, what 3 songs sound more like The Beatles: Live Forever, Supersonic, and Wonderwall or 1941 Mining Disaster, Craise Finton Kirk, and In My Own Time? At any rate, count me in with the Bee Gees lovers.

Thanks that’s awesome! I remember seeing that video before but had somehow missed the Left Banke reference. Both these interviews reminded me how much I liked Noel in interviews back in the day. So much looser and warmer than the smugness and bitterness he’s displayed lately. Hopefully it’s just a phase... Anyway, yeah the Left Banke - my dad introduced them to me when I was a kid and I’ve loved them ever since. “She May Call You Up Tonight” is one of my favorite songs of all time. Perfect pop music.

At 9:23 in that video Noel basically predicts Radiohead's In Rainbows release drop.
