Can someone please tell me what Liam is referring to with “16 years ago”, in One Of Us. I can’t figure it out. He is referring to the first time he stepped out on his own as solo star, appearing on the Late Late Show on Irish TV promoting Songbird in Feb 2003. In away it was the start of his solo career.

I'd say he's either referring to fuck-all and it just sounds good, or it's about something that we're not aware of. And I'd err on the side of the former.

First listen since the binge listen after the release. Sounds really bad on speakers. Really, really bad. Too bad someone fell alseep on the brickwall button, underneath, it sounded good. It’s sounds immense on my surround sound system. Much better than headphones. The bass is more prominent and it makes a big difference. What gear do you use ? I have B&W speakers and headphones. It sounds ok on headphones but terrible on speakers, same price range. Weird.

I absolutely love Liam's vocal on Halo. Proper attacks it.

Pop rock ya know? Like The beatles. Pop rock more like Bryan Adams doing a duet with that Spice Girl 😎 Love that song. Liam wouldn't sound bad on that one, he should cover it. Just kidding. But also not.

Now that some weeks have passed, I maintain my initial score (7 /10). Things I like:
- Some genuinely great songs: Once and One of Us. For some reason (maybe the Noel/Oasis references), I was initially a bit dissapointed with One of Us but I have changed my mind. - Overall quality level: there may be a couple of fillers, but no stinkers here. I totally agree with his decision of getting help from professional songwriters. - Liam's voice: excellent in general, except in a few places where he forces the Lennon impersonation too much. - The slight but noticeable variety introduced by songs like One of Us, NTIFY or Gone (even if I do not like the latter much, the production effort is appreciated and avoids repetition)
Things I do not like:
- The retro, Lennon-like, Beatles-like feel at points like Meadow. This sounded already tired in 2002. - Some parts feel a bit formulaic. Shockwave works for me but, as others said, it may sound like what an AI would generate when asked for a Liam Gallagher first single. That's the bad part of the professional songwriters I guess, but nothing is perfect. - Oasis / Noel references. I understand mixing the music with the actual life and public persona of the artist is a common selling strategy today: Beyonce releases a full album, written by like 50 people, about her marriage problems; Myley Cyrus releases a single (written among others by Andrew Wyatt) about her marriage breakup one week after the breakup is public, etc. I guess they do this to add emotional charge to the songs, but in my case it actually distances me from them, because it often feels unsincere and cringeworthy.
Overall, happy with the album and intrigued about 3rd album direction. Obviously I do not expect any revolution, but I think they will need to shake things a little to avoid repetition, and it will be interesting to see where they go

Thought I'd give it a few weeks to come to a conclusion on this album as my initial thoughts were underwhelming to say the least.
I put it back in the car earlier this week and it's already out again. Each to their own of course but for me, this album is sh*te. I feel harsh saying that, because there are a few good ideas and 'vibes' on the tracks, it's just that pretty much all of them fall short of what they could be. There are also a couple of complete and utter howlers in there. Track by track I see it as follows:
Shockwave - definitely a Liam by numbers stomper that whilst catchy enough, doesn't really rock or actually get going until the 2.30'ish mark. Listenable. 6.50/10
One of Us - best track on the album, hands down. Despite some of the lyrics it's a very mature listen. Similar to Bold I feel. 8/10
Once - Really starting to grate now, struggling to make it past the (admittedly excellent) first minute or so. 5.50/10
NTIFY - An absolute clanger!! It reminds me of the sort of track that Ronan Keating or Gary Barlow would release for their housewife fans. The BBC One Show appearance and performance says it all. Embarrassing. 2/10
Halo - Bit of a soft spot for this one and I feel as though it will work live. It's very safe on record but I get where they were at least trying to come from - a piano driven banger that improves on Bring the Light. 6/10
WMWN - Liam channels his inner Olly Murs here with a chorus befitting of the X Factor irritant. The verses are alright but everything else is complete cheese. 4/10
Be Still - mid-paced rocker that again doesn't really hit the mark. Comparably speaking, I don't think it's anywhere near as good as its AYW counterpart, I Get By. Does Liam sound bored here? 5/10
Alright Now - I don't even know what to say about this song, it just feels like a complete non-entity to me. There's a fully fleshed tune there but even after a dozen or so plays I'm having to really think about its melody. It's difficult to hate something you can't remember I suppose. 4/10
Meadow - A bit of a pick up in quality here. Very relaxed and similar to those BE b-sides that should have been on the album proper. Good effort. 6.50/10
The River - I really like most of The River. It's got attitude and a great vocal from Liam but dear me what. the. f*ck is that chorus all about? Is there a version out there somewhere that removes it and just has the music before 'change comes when the water falls...'? Who wrote the chorus? Why did Liam's army decide it was acceptable to commit it to record? 6/10
Gone - Again one of those tracks with a nice vibe musically, a bit of Mark Lanegan in there for me. It's just missing something to elevate it to being a good track that will stand the test of time. I've All I Need is a better, more sincere album closer. 6/10
Invisible Sun - Reminds me of Driving South by Stone Roses meets Cloudburst, but far far inferior to both of those tracks. For my tastes it should actually be my favourite on the album but it just ends when you feel as though it's about to go somewhere else. 5.50/10
Misunderstood - Liam's cover of Robbie Williams' 'Strong'. Piss. 3.50/10
Glimmer - I can't even be arsed anymore. 3/10.
Like I say, to each their own, and if you like this album then good luck to you, I'm glad you enjoy it. Personally though, I can't abide it. If it didn't have One of Us then I'd probably rank it lower than DGSS as the worst Gallagher album of all time. Very dissappointed.

I agree that Now That I've Found You is a swing and a miss. Irritating tune. Gone and the title track are good, though, that sound should have defined the record.

Don't agree with your overall assessment but I do agree with all of these points. Liam's vocals are mostly brilliant but the one on Be Still is weird. Like it's deliberately neutered. The whole album feels to me like getting the songs around 3:00 to 3:30 is the main concern. Maybe Warner has stats that show that to me the optimal length for streaming or something. All good songs, except Halo, but it ain't a Liam Gallagher album.

Can we move things along to the 'Rate WMWN thread' or the 'Liam Gallagher 3rd solo Album Hype Thread'. You can't really hype a record that's been out for weeks. This is veering a little off topic.

couldn't disagree more with this review ^^ That's cool fella, I'm not here to wind people up or turn this into another Liam vs Noel slanging match. I just like to put my thoughts on here so that in years to come I can look back and see if I still agree with myself if anything. For what it's worth, I really enjoyed and still do enjoy As You Were. I think it's brimming with all of Liam's strengths and at times, strangely endearing weaknesses as a songwriter. He is who he is and that will always be a frontman first and foremost, and a bit part songwriter second, but when he really has a proper go at songwriting I feel as though there's often a bit of simplistic genius in terms of what he comes up with and I genuinely don't think he's put much of an effort in with regards to the songwriting on WMWN.

I'd say that my 'happy fun' tastes are more aligned to bands like Black Grape or The Coral, or hell even Noel Gallagher! - a large % of Noel's songwriting (especially in the 90s) had extremely uplifting lyrics or accompanying music. A more recent example would probably be Holy Mountain, the song doesn't convey any sort of deep or meaningful message, and the lyrics are a bit sh*t, but if it catches me on the right day or in the right mood then it's an absolute joy. But I just feel when comparing something as bold, loud and proud as Holy Mountain to the three tunes that you listed above, that they feel so 'Smooth FM', so corny. You're probably right though and I'm probably just a miserable f*cker! but I've heard Liam sing the likes of She's Electric, Whatever, I Hope I Think I Now et al and I love all of those tunes, these just feel like they're not meant for his voice to me.

I think that's fair if you feel that Liam is best suited to those types of songs. Personally I think its been great that a variety of songwriters are pushing Liam to sing differently with more dynamics. Not only do the songs have more variety but as a singer he's having to approach them differently too.

A week a go today I welcomed my little Daughter in to the world, I'm now a dad, mental! When we got in the car for the journey home from the hospital, Now That I've Found You was the first song that came on, was a lovely moment. Congratulations, papa Rolo! Wising you, your other half and a little one a lot of happiness!

"I know it's late for lullabies but the future's yours and mine, now and forever more"
Great lyric. Liam finally getting to connect with Molly has been one of my favourite things about his comeback tbh.
