I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a divided opinion on different songs before I think this is what in the UK we would call a "Marmite" song album or thing.... either you love a song or hate it. There seems to be no middle ground. Why me, why not - Stuck out to me straight away... As did Halo and Invisible Sun on listening to the unreleased output.

Now that I’ve found you belongs on a Ronan keating album it’s bad soft rock with cheesy catchy lyrics. This song should be sung by a teenie bopper not the man who snarls gas panic and dya know what I mean A lot of these tracks wouldn't be out of place on Take That's last album. Why Me Why Now Not sounds like Shine. I am glad that someone said it so I don't have to be that guy again who will compare Liam's new songs with Robbie's songs and get lot of hate :-) Also, Be Still sounds like Lily Allen song, I think Fear or some song like that. It is British commercial pop music written by British pop songwriters and producers. It is same with Liam as with Robbie and Lily. But I like many Robbie's and Lily's songs or at least I think that they are ok so it's not really bad thing comparation with them. Noel fanboys hating some Liam's song and they would praise it if it was composed by Noel=Liam fanboys hating some Robbie's song and they would praise it if it was composed/sang by Liam

Have you heard Stay Young? ☺ haha, sure. But Stay Young is much more of a rocker and more edgy with its multiple guitar layers etc. For me, the whole arrangement of the song is cringeworthy. These ‘woohooos / uuuhhhhhhs’ and overly pop production, doesn‘t fit Liam‘s solo career so far. A nicely crafted pop ballad as For What it‘s yworth works better, it doesn‘t have all that pastiche over it that Now That I Found You has. I like the song a lot but agree about the awful ooo bits. Not necessarily at all

We'll have to agree to disagree. Its nowhere near a cheesy as She Is Love or FWIW and I don't think that boy bands or pop groups should have a monopoly on putting out light and joyful tunes. Had there been to many of them on the album then it might have been a problem but it can support one like that. Actually agree, the cheesiest tunes on this record are the "rock n roll" ones : Shockwave, The River (which feel like it's 2 hours long) and the Beady Eye'sque worst rockers Be still. My mama said, Liam, 5 wow On the other hand, tunes like Why Me Why not and Now that i've found you are perfect tunes, with a bit of pop yes, but that never hurt anyone. Now that I found you is the only one I would say was kiddy pop. Most of this album sounds like George Harrison/stones mixed with Ian brown vocals.

People forget oasis were a pop Rock band of perfection really a proper stadium rock band with the uptempo tracks and the singalongs and nobody does this better than Liam .The album suits where he’s at today and his influences are all in it and make no mistake with this that majority of this is Liam’s work the lyrics the structure these guys are just helping him polish and tidy up the tracks but what they are bringing most is a retro sound that fits today’s era and he’s absolutely picked the right singles to release ,they are better songs in my opinion than the singles off as you were..it’s a great album I always say play it loud and get the feel

For those who claim (same people over and over again) this album it´s no rock, i´ts pop, it´s like Take That , it´s like Robbie Williams blah blah blah... Have you heard some songs of the group you´re supposed to love? Maybe Wonderwall, maybe She´s Electric, maybe SCYHO, maybe Let There be Love, maybe Let´s All Make Believe, maybe Don´t Go Away, maybe Stand By Me, maybe Sunday Mornig Call....aaaaahhhh wait wait wait...these songs were written by Noel Gallagher!! Nah, no problem, it´s fucking Noel Gallagher. Another recurrent argument here: Liam´s not singing his own songs, lyrics are from another person, he has not passion about these songs....ahhhhh wait wait wait...when Songs are written by Noel this BIG, ENORMOUS problem completely dissapear...uhhmmm... WHy me? Why Not is a GREAT album, although many here will never ever recognise it. I know these songs and I love them and they are not full of pastiche like "Now that I've found you". It's the production I have an issue with mostly, to a very minor degree it's also the songwriting and the melody, but with a less plastic production, I guess I wouldn't mind that song that much. That's why I still would prefer FWIW, also cheesy as hell, but the production doesn't sound as plastic to me. It's straight forward pop, but not with all those reverb sunshine surf guitar sounds. Towards the Motown record proposal: I'd be all up for that haha, just make it not sound plastic.

All you comparing this album to genuine pop stars, did none of you listen to Britpop? And I don't just mean Oasis.
Suede, Cast, Charlatans etc... All those bands were a bit softer than Oasis musically but it was still Britpop. These songs wouldn't look out of place on a Britpop album.
Just cause it's not as guitar heavy as early Liam doesn't mean it's a Ronan Keating album ffs.

In the 90s the kind of music they produced was popular so it got in the charts and had success. Songs like wonderwall and some might say have credibility yet we’re hits alongside pop acts of the day. What you have with a song like now that I’ve found you is a track with would of been recorded by someone like ronan or take that trying to mimic a credible rock but also appeal to mums and teenie boppers It’s a bit of a role reversal

shockwave - the verses and the bridge are as mediocre as it gets. the chorus is okay-ish. 6.5one of us - i like it. one of his best on the album! 8.25once - it's pure cringe. the lyrics are awful. it's the fwiw of the album. 5.5now that i've found you - good one! the melody in the verses is lovely. 8.0halo - it's a bit annoying and too long. 5.5why me? why not. - the verses, which are clearly liam's input, are fucking boring. the chorus saves it. it's not enough to give it a 7 though. 6.9be still - has a bit of a "doesn't have to be that way" vibe, which is good. i like it! 8.0alright now - fuck me, the verses, the synthie (? solo and the bridge are so john lennon! funnily enough, i fancy the song. it's lovely. 8.0meadow - i don't know, liam has worse songs, but also better ones. it doesn't do a lot to . it's a bit forgettable. 6.0the river - shockwave part 2, just more boring. it has "skip!" written all over it. 5.75gone - the melody is not there, but it's still in the okay-ish range. the talking part is a bit weird. 6.75invisible sun - i'm undecided. it could be a boring stone roses song. it's not liam's worst, definitely. 6.75misunderstood - it doesn't hurt, it's not cringy enough to hate it. it's meadow part 2. 6.25glimmer - another "i'm not gonna hurt you" song. well, yeah, what can i say? 6.75all in all, it's a good step away from the abysmal as you were.

Actually i love the record, Bar the shitty singles, my review will come and prove you wrong, again. So you're deeply mistaken. At least i'm not trying to convince myself this Liam has always been that Liam. For whatever reasons you may have in your head. 90s Liam would probably throw up listening to that record. The 90s were 30 years ago mate. Liam has grown. I'm more of a 'Noelist'. Always been and always will. But we have to admit that this album is a step forward musically. Never expected to see Liam in a song like NTIFY or Alright Now honestly. But... We agree... I find it odd that people are saying Liam is making the same music or is still the same he was in Oasis, when he clearly is not. If Noel is Cosmic Pop, Liam is Comestic Pop now. It is a step forward musically indeed, this album is more complex, with lush production. But to compare that with Oasis lighter songs is just a bit baffling. It's like night and day.

So I've listened to the record at the fullest like 5-6 times already so I think I'm ready for a review. This could change with some time but I'm feeling confident with my opinnion now.
After AYW I thought that songs like It Doesn't Have To Be That Way or Chinatown a little path was given for him as an artist. Doing traditional songs but in a different way. And I'm not talking about production. I'm talking about songwriting and delivering a song of others. I've already seen a couple reviews that mention that Liam's has done more in this record than he gets recognition for. And I do believe it. So many tracks of this album have his identity all over it. If you listen closely to some chord changes and some melodies, you can tell it's Liam with a little push. But IT IS Liam. And we all should be thankfull for that.
Shockwave didn't grab me the first time I heard it. I think its an alright single but an average song. Really generic. But that doesn't mean is a bad choice. When you play the album and that guitar kicks in your already in the GIMME MOAR mood. I guess I didn't pay the attention it deserved because I was expecting a Wall Of Glass 2.0 honestly. There's a really subtle guitar solo in the last chorus that gives a little bit more of identity. Solid opener and solid single but still generic traditional rock. Whoever came to a Liam Gallagher expecting to hear something trascendental might be wrong. But this record is a step further and a step closer to that point. Shockwave is a 7/10 for me.
Then comes One Of Us. It is a right single choice and now that Shockwave set the mood, this song wraps you in. My friends don't like Oasis at all but this song grabbed their ears. That's how fresh it is. The nostalgic chorus and the little guitar bits toward the end of the song plus the beautiful instrumentation make me give it an 8/10
Once is a song that divides me. On one side I believe that Once's chorus is the best melody Liam has ever wrote. It grabs you on the first listen and is actually touching. Heartfelt. But the other side of me thinks is a wasted opportunity. Because of the bridge. The bridge doesn't go anywhere and it just doesn't match the song. Yes, I apreciate the Magical Mystery Tour production but the ONCEONCEONCEONCEOnceonceonce... bit absolutely ruins the mood. Lucky me that the final chorus kicks in and it's beautifully done enough to drag you in again. An 8'5/10.
Now That I've Found You is the song that is dividing us all. Yes,it's poppy as fuck. But he's not trying too hard and sometimes you have to apreciate this type of song. Without pop, there is no pop-rock. He's been rocking out songs for almost 30 years now. Sometimes it's better to listen to an easy-ear-grabbing tune that without trying gets you in a good mood full of joy than trying to search the deepest composition that an artist like Liam can write. Its just a great song to be honest. 8/10
Halo appears when things are not too heavy to redefine what Be Here Now could've been and what Beady Eye SHOULD have been. This has a clear direction and a brilliant production. When the flute/whisper bit ends and the piano kicks in again with the drums hits you in the face, you know this is a keeper. It's the huge classic rock and roll type of tune that I've always dreamed of Liam delivering this well. Definitely an 8/10.
Why Me Why Not. Well, the song that gives title to the record makes you feel glad you came around. It can't be more solid than this. The 6th song on the record and I was blown away already. That Lennon progression with the strings is something we've heard Liam do soooo many times but never done in this way. How could he sell us The River as the heavier track? What a smart move. The chorus minus the falsetto is a bit of a let down. But the message is so strong that the production makes the song so big that you just can't deny the brilliance of this track. Another 8/10.
Be Still is the first kinda meh song on the record for me. Don't get me wrong, the chorus is absolutely great and those raw guitars make you feel invested. But the production chooses to do It Doesn't Have To Be That Way again. Mixed with the Come Back To Me feel. It's generic and doesn't sound fresh at all to be honest. Catchy song that will probably stay in the album when time pass. 6/10
Alright Now is a gem. I'm 100% sure some of you will see it as the filler. But give it some time and let the song involve you. The melodies, the chord changes, the guitar solo and the ending is a pack that can't be skipped. The production is an example of how right they have done things here. The lyrics make you smile and specially the Broadway bit. An 8'5 and a stand-out for me.
Meadow is again another generic and bland song. Is something we've been listening for decades. Not fresh at all and the production choices are most likely the most boring of the entire record. BUT. The ending man. What an ending. Read a review that said that feels like a spaceship landing. An oh shit they were right. Listen to this on headphones and the way the synthesizers go off and on. It pays off and it makes you wonder if there's a single song on the record that doesn't earn your attention. Even the worst song on the record has details that makes you come back. That's how good things are delivered here. But the verse and the chorus are so flat that I have to give it a 5/10
The River kicks in in the perfect time. At this point I was starting to think that I needed adrenaline again and The River couldn't be in a better spot for me. The lyrics can feel a bit out of place but the bridge of the song is one of Liams more swagger delivered lines. Yes,I mean the 'Lick your lips' part. Its just powerful. But honestly I don't get why they released it. I know it wasn't a single as a type but it would've been a nice surprise and I would say that I would've loved it more if it was the first time I heard it. Just because of the place of the record that it's in. 7/10
Gone finishes things off in a great way. It's the most cinematic song Liam has ever done and it gets things done really nicely. This song proves that musically speaking, this album is a couple steps forward for Liam as an artist. The spoken word bit fits perfectly and the strings in the ending make me feel satisfied, something that didn't happen on As You Were. When I first listened to that record I thought that I wanted more. And in a good way I guess. But I prefer to feel satisfied of course. The chorus is something that nobody else could wear like Liam. It's something unique. And it makes a summary of what the record vibe is. Is not trying hard, its not doing a different genre or a conceptual album. It's just a step forward and it flows on so naturally. 8'5/10
That's how I felt the entire thing. Natural. Cohesive. Solid. And it doesn't leave you wanting more. It leaves you excited for the things that are yet to come in Liams career. The third album is the litmus test for every artist. Is where things get serious and where the choices matter. And I can tell Liam and his army know really well what they're doing and how they want to do it. Guitar solos on almost every song, voice clear as the water and every single song has something to offer. The variation on this album is mezmerazing. And not only for Oasis fans, this album has something to give for every classic rock music listener. When a creative direction is clear, the rest speaks by itself. Why Me? Why Not is the most solid 8/10 I've ever think a Gallagher record would be.
Aaaand that's it. Let's go for the bonus tracks! I must say, they defend themselves. They're all actually good or decent enough to deserve to be listened.
Invisible Sun hits you in the face with a letter that spells 'I LOVE IAN BROWN' because it's the closest Liam has sounded to the monkey king. The heavy guitars has to remind you to the Second Coming and the riffs on the chorus are just great. I must say though that its the weaker of the three songs. 6'5/10
Misunderstood is the strongest of the three tunes and the reason why is how they delivered the melodies. They're beautiful but if it was done in a poor way (like Beady Eye could've done) it would be too repetitive for the listener. The chorus is touching and the verses are moving. You just can't deny how beautiful the song is when it finishes and you realize the smile it has put on your face. 8/10
Glimmer is the most Beady Eye song of the record. But in the best way. It would've been a standout of Different Gear Still Speeding and GOD that album aged poorly. But its (again) the production that saves it. The fade-out that we usually hear on electronic music on the second verse gives it colours and the piano solo just tops the song. It's joyful and the chorus leaves you in a great mood when the song is over. 7/10 for me
I could speak about the Once demo but I'm going to bash it. And it doesn't deserve it because its just a demo. Go listen to the full song or even the piano live version instead and save your time.
Thank you so much for reading till the end!!! Cheers.

Taken form an interview with an australian magazine. Some questions about writing proccess. I really think he´s really involved around all the proccess! Much more than when he was in Oasis...
When you made that decision, how did the process work? How do you work with [songwriting team, Andrew] Wyatt and [Greg] Kurstin?
I’m probably the easiest person they’ve ever worked with, because I just want to keep making the same kind of music. I’m not going to switch genres and I’m not going to go, ‘Let’s make a pop album.’ I’m just about good songs. If there are any bits that I have down I’ll send them over and be like, ‘Can you sort this out?’ and they’ll do it, and if there’s any bits that they’ve got, they’ll send them to me, and go, ‘What do you think of this?’ And then I’ll go, ‘Yeah it’s cool’, and we get a session in and I fly over there. And then we just crack on and do it.
With this last album we did six songs in a week, and then we had a bit of time off, and then we went back to do a bit more. So it all works pretty easy. A lot of people talk about [the] difficult second album, but it was a piece of piss! And it’s that way because you choose to make it a piece of piss. I’d never felt like that, before even, with Oasis. But this was a joy – I was the first one in and the last one out. I loved being in the studio. A lot of people go into the studio and they make it hard for themselves. It shouldn’t be that f-cking hard – if it’s that hard, then don’t do it.
I’ve always taken it as fun, and having a crack in the studio. A lot of people go in there scared and start worrying about drum sounds, and ‘Ooh, the cymbals ain’t sounding right.’ F-ck off mate, it sounds brilliant. That’s the way I look at it.
When you’re picking tracks for the final cut, do many of them end up on the cutting room floor?
We didn’t do that many, actually. We did about 15 songs; there were a few more that could have gone on there but I just wanted this one to be a bit more tight and a bit more compact, you know what I mean? So, there’s not too many knocking about. There’s not too many on the cutting room floor, as you say. For me, if the song gets me up moving then it’s going on the album. It doesn’t matter if it gets anybody else moving. If it gets me moving – and it takes a lot to get me f-cking moving – I’ll fight for it.
I like the strong use of strings on the album. Was that your influence?
No, it wasn’t really my influence. I think everyone does that on their second album, don’t they? [laughs] They always kind of bang out the strings. But these songs blended into it, you know what I mean? It was a bit more cinematic, I think.

6/10 Alright Now is a gem. But the verse and the chorus are so flat that I have to give it a 5/10 The River kicks in in the perfect time. 7/10 Gone finishes things off in a great way. 8'5/10 That's how I felt the entire thing. Natural. Cohesive. What an excellent review. Great job.
