I’ve said it before, but you need to listen to more vinyl. I don’t think you fully comprehend how good it can sound. I've heard it. Three months ago to the day I was in Edinburgh listening to (What's the Story) Morning Glory? on a lovely expensive record player. It sounds good, and spacious. There's a satisfaction to putting the needle in the groove. The crackles are cool. It is nice to have a big album on the wall. For me, it's just nowhere near good enough to spend much money on, beyond wanting to showcase your favourite albums. How much do you spend monthly on Spotify? (Serious question, I honestly don't know). I don't buy records every week, and sometimes go for months at a time without purchasing one. It would be interesting if you could calculate how much cash you have spent on streaming services in your lifetime. Because sure I might have spent a little more over the span of 35-37 years collecting my CD's and vinyl. But at the end of the day, if and when you ever cancel your subscription, I will have my CD's and records and you will have nothing. I will concede that a Spotify or Pandora is a nice supplement to have for the gym, for example. But again, so far I only have the free "radio" version of Pandora, I'm cheap! 😝 And I'm finding that 75-80% of what my "stations" are playing, I would actually put on a playlist for myself. So I might not upgrade at all.

I wish I could give more details but can't. All i will say is tho on first listen there was one song which hit me deep in the feels and recall thinking "oh, this is really high up there amoungst the most beautiful melodies Noel has ever written". Doubt you will hear that one tomorrow tho. That's it from me! Hi mate, any chance you could tell us which song you're referring to above? Is it Black Star Dancing or another tune we haven't heard yet? Thanks!! Others. I wish I could say more but will get ppl in trouble and burn bridges. So no can do!

So probably about £600 in my life, with at least 1000 albums on there, often with my own improved tracklist, that I can listen to however, wherever, and whenever. And you're right, if I stopped my subscription to all streaming services, I would only have YouTube to use for music. The solution I've worked out is just to, well, not do that

Hell even u2 makes better dance songs these days. Remember The Blackout or Get out of your own way? Hows that for a dance/rock song.. Those songs clearly superior to anything noel released recently.. with dead in the water the sole bright spot I personally don’t think so, I’m a huge U2 fan and even I can’t listen to those songs. I think Get Out Your Own Way is unbelievably generic to the extreme - it’s Bono trying to get down with the kids by trying to sound like MOR crap like Imagine Dragons, One Republic or recent Coldplay. Typical modern day synthetic production to sound ‘with it’ and a cut and paste anthemic chorus. Embarrassing stuff. Blackout a bit better but ruined by yet another forced cut and paste anthemic chorus. Bono just can’t help himself with the big dumb loud platitudes in his choruses these days. I’d honestly listen to the least good song on Who Built The Moon ten times over that. Not a fan of Black Star Dancing but still better than these U2 singles.

It's probably been missed, but Noel was on TalkSport in the UK this morning.
He said he's due to finish this year's touring in Australia in November. Then he's planning to have a bit of time off (touring).
So guess that would mean no album cycle until late 2020 at the earliest.

See ya guys in two years.

So he's already rehearsing the second EP? We should get the new EP around August/September, but it would be great to have a live version before that

Is he saying its more classic HFB or more late 80s Hacienda?

He also said he was writing normal songs all the time he was working with Holmes, so there’s a chance it’s something more traditional. A “Manchester sound” could mean anything really, a diversity of bands and artists have come out of that city. Did Hacienda goers obsess over anoraks and trainers?? Sounds more like your standard Oasis fan to me... X

I must admit I’m looking forward to Liam’s new music now rather than Noel’s. I think that new song Black Star thingamebob would sound fine if say Gorillaz had released it but it’s Noel singing it and it doesn’t work. I honestly think he thinks he can pull that Gorillaz thing off but he’s not like that. He’s trying to be something he’s not and it doesn’t ring true. It does sound better live I have to admit but there were 13 people on the stage on the live vid I saw and not one of them could save the song. Gem looks like he’s going through the motions, does all the correct movements like he means it but I don’t think he does. Chris looks like he’s the only one actually enjoying it but that’s only because he’s got too much to do to think about how shite the song is. I know I’ve posted this in the album thread but fuck it

His music collection always used to be more eclectic than his own songwriting it’s just that now he’s adding those influences in to his own writing. Whether it works or is any good is another matter but I don’t think you can accuse him of trying to be something he’s not.

I think its more like he's realised how one dimensional his influences used to be and had a sudden realisation that he needed to appear more diverse.
Even as far on as 2003/04 he's proudly boasting his record collection only comprises of Beatles, Stones and greatest hits from bowie, t-rex etc.
It's only in the past 5 years hes started to name drop all sorts of music to try to emphasise to people he doesn't just listen to those old guitar bands. I think hes quite embarrassed that his music taste was so narrow minded until quite late on.
He tries to now hide behind the narrative that the rest of the band stopped him from doing anything unconventional in Oasis but he never wanted to, nor knew how to change.

[/quote] Noel's influences have never been one dimensional. It has been presented as such, but it's a really incorrect statement. He ripped off Cliff Richard and Gary Glitter for some songs, the Beatles for others, Led Zep (especially around BHN) for others. It's a really big range and always has been.
