It’s an absolutely brilliant album. If I could change one thing I would swap the track Council Skies for We’re gonna get there in the end. Prefer the Don’t Stop Demo but to be honest I’m a bit shocked how good and fresh it is. The tracks we hadn’t heard are the best for me. They aren’t maybe radio friendly which is why I’m guessing he didn’t pick them as singles but they sound so fresh.Well done Noel

must say i’m blown away by the overwhelming positive reaction to this album! i personally loved it on first listen but usually i find i’m in the unpopular opinions on this forum ha.
i would honestly argue that this album is more “far out” than WBTM? in a sense. i’m a huge WBTM? fan - but it’s really just straight ahead pop/rock with electronica interspersed in the production (in retrospect).
this album manages to go from gospel soul to 80s drum machines to acoustic orchestral to britpop guitar anthem to bossa nova to dark atmospheric seamlessly… all within 40 mins. it pretty much taps into every corner of the HFB catalog sonically.
as someone who has truly waited nearly 6 years for today, it did not disappoint.

Damn. He sounds so much vulnerable here that it's almost shocking. Like a punch in the stomach. Not what you usually expect from Noel. That "cause this might be the end" straight into the instrumental break is such a brilliant moment

First listen thoughts:
The good news is that my worst fears have been assuaged. This isn't the half-hearted exercise which the singles threatened; the most colourful sounds have been saved for release date. "Think of a Number", in particular, is such a cracker of a tune that I don't know why I was subjected to "Easy Now" as a hype-builder all those months ago. There's a consistency to the album, too; although "Open the Door, See What You Find" is naff, there's nothing as trashy as "The Girl With X-Ray Eyes" here. It's solid. Almost every track brings something worthwhile to the party, and no two bring the same. And despite the variety, it all trickles along quite nicely.
On the other hand, I don't seem to have received the heart-scarring, Blood-on-the-Tracks-style experience that some have. "Dead to the World" is gorgeous (a blood-red twinkling gem of a song, in fact; I have seen the light), and there are one-or-two other tugs on the heartstrings, but I can't say that tracks like "Love is a Rich Man", or "Council Skies", or "There She Blows!" had me ruminating back to pain of lost loves. Most of the time, it has the usual tone of a Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds record. Which is fine! I enjoy it, in fact.
I would say that people should be careful not to forget how good his solo career has been up until this point before they call it his best work, though. There's nothing on here that touches "The Death of You and Me", for me, or hits with the lunatic noise of "The Man Who Built the Moon". On first listen, I'd say it's both a worthy instalment to his solo career, and the weakest one so far. I'm not thrilled by Council Skies, but I am satisfied by it - more so than I expected when the singles came out, and more so than I have been with any Gallagher album since 2017.
Now bring on the reunion.

Okay, so the beginning of There She Blows is just the melody from the chorus of Bus Stop.

I'll be the first to say it: the demo of "Don't Stop..." was better than the final version Agreed. This version is just noisy. Doesn't add anything.

Best tunes on it are Pretty Boy and Think of a Number. This area is where he's strongest nowadays. Holmes remix of INGUT is also miles better than the version chosen for the album. Tryin to find a world is perfect also... The rest should go down well with the Oasis fanboys. 100% agree! Totally love his The Cure inspired stuff. Think of a Number is now one of my favorite Noel solo songs, very honest/personal lyrics, amazing Cure-like bass and guitar, interesting melody, and the guitar solo is just so uplifting and perfect. Was worried before hearing this song that there would be no song on this album that I really loved (pretty boy was an acquired taste)...well it only takes one, thanks Noel.

I'm not thrilled by Council Skies, but I am satisfied by it - more so than I expected when the singles came out, and more so than I have been with any Gallagher album since 2017. Now bring on the reunion. It’s interesting what your saying about comparing this to his existing albums, because - although it’s early days - I couldn’t agree less about it being his weakest work, for a number of reasons. Firstly, in my opinion every Noel album has had one or two tracks that were instantly skippable. On NGHFB, we had Dream On, which I can’t bare to endure. On CY, we had X-ray Eyes and The Mexican. On WBTM, most of the second half ruined what could have been an incredible album. Thus far, I’d strongly argue that none of Council Skies has tracks that are so overwhelmingly unlistenable, either in my opinion or the everyday punters likely opinion (time will tell though) Secondly, the first three albums suffered from either too much “middle of the road” tracks, or had high highs and low lows. Circling back to NGHFB, there are some great tracks there, Everybody’s On The Run, Broken Arrow, Wrong Beach, among others, but the rest was either middle of the road, bland, or crap in the case of Dream On. CY had less middle of the road ones in my opinion, as I mostly enjoy that album, but as I mentioned before, it had 2 stinkers which bring it down. WBTM has a cracking first few tracks (although Fort Knox is highly overrated here), but the second half falls off a cliff when you reach “Be Careful What You Wish For”, and sucks until TMWBTM. Noel’s albums seem to have gotten increasingly higher highs but lowers lows, particularly with WBTM. It’s frustrating for me to listen to that album when it has 5 of his best, 1 meh, then 5 of his worst tracks on it. But for me thus far, Council Skies has no immediate skippable tracks. Sure it has its weaker moments, and the single choices are indeed baffling, but there’s no doubt at all from me that it’s his most solid album so far. The worst song is a 6 or 7 out of 10, and the best (DTTW) is a 10. The lows are not that low, and whereas there might be less “highs”, as an average it’s still better than his other albums in this way. Still too early to decide where it places within them all, but it’s by far his most solid album for me due to its lack of truly bad tracks, and it’s decent amount of really good ones.

There She Blows, I'm Not Giving Up Tonight, and Think Of A Number definitely should have been singles. Probably my three favorite songs from the album, with Dead To The World and Trying To Find A World That's Been Gone rounding up the top five. I agree with all of the above Prob World thats been and Gone the biggest suprise to me as no one really raved about demo. I refused to listen and am loving it now

Loved the singles! But holy moly; the rest is even better! Think Of A Number reminds me of New Years Day by U2; lots of U2 Rattle and Hum/Joshua Tree vibes on the songs. I love those albums so this is right up my alley

Liam has quite the competition with his next effort. Just saying. Noel is out of his slump OFFICIAL. I'm giving this album a solid 7 outta 10 due to Dead to the World and Easy Now. It's still lightyears better than Who Built the Moon. For me none of his efforts will Trump Chasing Yesterday. That's his best solo album imo. Wow,I did not expect anything positive from you.

I've listened to it once and I like it but nothing new stands out. It has the feel of a grower album though. I can't hear anything super powerful or even catchy.

# TOAN is something really special. Album highlight for me along with DTTW
# The bonus tracks feel over-produced. Prefer demos for Don’t Stop and We’re Gonna Get There in then End

Noel was so close to deliver a perfect "Bacharach" album. so close ! My full review later Interesting that my Apple Music lists We're Gonna get there in the end as the album closer, not a bonus track or anything. Indeed, its the best album closer there could be.

If you've purchased the album via the NG store should the thing be downloadable in full now? I've downloaded all the singles off there once they were listed and now there's a link saying download all but it's not working. I've checked previous purchases and the download all option doesn't work for those either.
I've deluxe vinyl and cd version coming but not expecting it until Monday, surely there should be a download link rather than having to pay up for that too to listen in car until can rip it on Monday?
