I’ve listened through once fully, all 10 + bonus - and it’s a REALLY strong record. for me, it was well worth the wait. i love the true britpop theme of the album and the orchestral add-ons elevate the tracks to a majestic plane.
i’m not giving up tonight - this track is a standout, fantastic opener. definitely sets the tone for the “eclectic” vibe of the record. wonderful melody.
pretty boy - i’ve always dug this one, very radio. marr’s lines sound amazing and the robert smith remix is even bigger.
dead to the world - a true highlight in the HFB discography, unlike anything he’s done ever in the best possible way. best song on the album for me.
otd, swyf - by the way the forum made it sound, i was expecting it to be shit, but really solid album track! love the 60s feel, and noel’s soaring high notes sound great. fits the overarching britpop theme really nicely.
ttfawtbag - always has a special place in my eyes, heard the demo during a special part of life. happy he didn’t rework it and kept it true to the original. great interlude and continues the flow of the record nicely.
easy now - classic noel, obvious single. one of the best choruses on the record. loved it from first listen.
council skies - was content when i first heard it, now it’s grown on me and i love the bacharach-esque instrumentation. marr shines here too.
there she blows! - how the sea shanty about moby dick managed to be one of the best songs on the album is beyond me. really sly vocals and seering musical support here. might be the most beatles-esque song in his entire HFB catalog. def another highlight.
love is a rich man - very stone roses / springsteen. wish the vocals in the verses were louder. on first listen, my least fav but doesn’t make it a bad song at all, sure it’ll grow on me. ILITL is one of my favs off WBTM and this gives me a very similar energy.
think of a number - surprising closer here, def unusual note for NG as he tends to have grand, epic finales. i like moodiness of the track though and the lyrics are beautiful. one i know will grow on me as it’s another track on this record that is unlike any other song he’s done before.
bonus WGGTITE - superb. classic noel to leave this track as a bside. again, he seems to excel in the britpop vein. a serious highlight for me.
bonus DS… - so nice to finally have a studio version. a lot better than i expected. strings are beautiful and i think the production is really nice here. would be curious to know when this recorded.
overall, i’m very happy with this album. to see NG still churning out records like this as he approaches his 60s is quite a privilege. a few classics and some really strong HFB album tracks. my biggest complaint is that flying on the ground should’ve been on it!

Well i just listened to the album again with Flying on the Ground and it fits perfectly. What were you thinking you vagina. Its the best song you've released post pandemic. Deserves another "you vagina" Re that compressed sound. Any hope it will sound better on CD ? specialists ? Imagine INGUT going into Flying On The Ground... That one will definitely go down as one of the most underrated tunes he's ever done, and he's not helped himself with it

Really like think of a number. Great tune. The new versions of don't stop and we're gonna get there in the end are much better than the demos. I'm not giving up and there she blows are excellent too. This is just on my shitty work speakers. I'm half hour away from the flac being downloaded, then calling it a day at work, cycling home and blasting this!

After a couple of listens
The UPs:
I'm Not Giving Up Tonight There She Blows Love is a Rich Man Dead to the World
The middle to low: Everything else
The over the top rip-off, like really ? Think of a Number
The BIN inside another BIN, and then set it on fire : Pretty Boy
Special mention to Mind Games cover. I'm not a fan of cover on the album, but this time why not, considering all the plod plod we have
My version will be reworked with the bonus tracks dont stop, we're gonna get there and the two from the best of.
It really feels like he hesitated between the joyous horns album and the sad 80s dad rocker album. And in the end we get a mix of both, in a weird way.

Rather not have flying on the ground on this album as it’s a dire tune

I would be FURIOUS if someone sent me a link to download the album before release. Absolutely fuming. Like... if they just PMd me with a link to listen to it before the release tomorrow I would be so angry.
I would probably thank them but by God would they know how I felt.

I'm Not Giving Up Tonight (6.5/10) Pretty Boy (6/10) Dead To The World (9/10) Open The Door, See What You Find (8/10) Trying To Find A World That's Been And Gone Pt. 1 (4/10) Easy Now (8/10) Council Skies (8/10) There She Blows! (9/10) Love Is A Rich Man (8.5/10) Think Of A Number (8.5/10)
That fuckin song Trying To Find A Song That Ruins An Album aggggg. Anyway... love it, good enough to be his best solo effort. Feels so deep and nostalgic. Emotions coming back to this guy? nah. Sparks.
TOP production 8.3/10
and the rest of this "deluxe blah"... a joke. 2/10 to everything after track 10

I'll be the first to say it: the demo of "Don't Stop..." was better than the final version

I just cant get past the bland lazy melodies unfortunately Its like 90% of the melodies Noel writes these days are just the least amount of syllables he can get in possible, its hard to explain but it comes across as lazy imo, especially on top of an average production. Obviously it works when the melody is killer, like Live Forever, Slide Away and SCYHO for example. This is the reason I'll probably only re listen to "Trying to Find a World" and possibly DTTW. The rest have no replay value for me :/ I really liked Flying On The Ground and We're On Our Way Now, too

Next album he'll only be using one finger and one can only fear what happens from then on 😩

I’m waiting until tomorrow….
Any chance this charts at UK #1?
Every album of Oasis and Noel’s have hit #1 UK. As have the LG albums. The streak is at stake.

My God. The album is SO GOOD.
I am absolutely BAFFLED by the single choices. Pretty Boy as the lead single?!?! I even like that song but that and Council Skies are the weakest songs on the album.
I was expecting a 5/10 record but this might be his best outing as a solo artist. I can not wait to listen to it more. Think of a Number, There She Blows, and I'm Not Giving Up Tonight are my favorites.
and Mind Games.... holy shit.
