7.5 on initial listens. Second half is great. Not his best collection of songs, but the album is put together far better than his others and obviously sounds better and has more depth.

It's a high 8 for me, though that's kind of a deceiving score: I think it's Noel's best solo effort, even though I rate NGHFB and CY as high 8s also. The sheer quality of the tunes starting with Wednesday Part 1 is just astonishing. The first half feels a little too self-conscious at times, as though the songs want to be appreciated more for the experimental production than for themselves. It's the sound of an ageing rocker saying "I've still got it, right kids?" The second half, though, sounds like a mature rocker doing an elevated version of what he does best. The experimental production is still there, but this time it serves the tunes, rather than the other way around.

It's at least a 8/10 for me I just enjoy it as an album, the flow is perfect and apart from Black And White Sunshine which I think is average I like all the songs with 3-4 tracks standing out I need to listen to it more carefully tho, as I was on a rush this morning

It's 7/10 for me. There are great songs but some weak tracks in there too(such as HM). My favorite track is KoR so far. Epic.

As a Parka Monkey, i really loved as you were even if it felt really safe for liam, i'm rating songs as i listen to them for the first time: Fort Knox:8 great, great opener. Holy Mountain:3 Can't stand that song i have to skip it once more Keep on reaching:6.5 but could reach more, it sounds like a grower Beautiful World:7.5 good bass, i like the vibe and even if the french part seems cringy for a french like me, it adds a good feeling to the song. Lacks a bigger climax maybe. She Taught me how to fly:7 Way better than live version, super cool strokes-like riff. Be careful what you wish for:6 really lacks one variation of the verse, or a chorus, sounds unfinished. Black and white sunshine:6 Nothing special on this one, maybe a grower since the chorus is cool. Interlude(I):7.5 I really love instrumentals in general, comes at the right time, just when i start being bored. If Love is the Law:8.5 F*ck me that's really good, excellent chorus and goid verses, instruments in the chorus sound f*ckin awesome The man Who built the moon:9 Really love the distorded synth sound during the intro and then chorus, all the instrumentation is really awesome, one of the highlights of the album for sure, made me bang my head really badly Interlude(II):7.5 Good instrumental, the two songs between both interludes are the best ones and this makes the ending sound really good. Dead in the Water: Sounds like a Noel Gallagher song, like Talk Tonight, Sad Song, etc...It is really good and i get why it isnt on the album, wouldn't fit that well, sounds like a good oasis b-side God Help us All:Meh I was worried as hell after hearing to one of the song i hate the most in my entire life(holy mountain) but turns out that the album is good, like As you were i think the first part is good(i deleted HM so i don't count it) then it gets kinda meh for two songs( better run and i get by in AYW, the two songs before interlude here) then has a wonderfun ending quartet. 7.5/10, don't think the mark will get higher but it has really good moments o will surely listen again. I get why NG seemed so confident, even with this shit first single, the album is not revolutionnary but it is a great evolution of Noel solo career which i think wad kinda "meh" over two first albums.

I'd probably give it a 6. A few great songs like The Man Who but the rest are either average or forgettable.
Something about the production of the album is holding it back a bit.

Feeling a strong 8/10. So much melody. So many subtle sounds. So many instruments. This is the record I've been wanting for nearly a decade.
I applaud Noel for this one.

Just listened to it straight through.
Fort Knox 8.5: Outstanding album opener, epic, great production, jumps out of the speakers. Holy Mountain 8: I initially thought this was trash, but it is getting better and better and better with each listen and it makes perfect sense in the context of the album. An extremely enjoyable song... Keep on Reaching 7.5: I'm surprised that this is as good as it is. I didn't think Noel has this sort of soul exercise in him. Beautiful World 7.5: This is a lovely song and the verses are awesome and the lyrics are great. I don't think it is a single. She Taught Me How to Fly 7: Great verse, repetitiveness grates. Like the vibe, just wish he did something more with the chorus. Be Careful What you Wish For 5.5: this is the soft underbelly of the record. Bland. Black and White Sunshine 7: This could have been better. Love the guitar, love the sound, but the chorus melody is bleh. Interlude 8: Love these instrumentals...they really push the record forward in s beautiful way. If Love Is the Law 9: This is a great NG tune. Out of all the tunes this is the one I wanted to hear again. The Man Who Built the Moon 9.5: This is inspirational. Right up there with RIverman and The Death of You and Me as the best NGHFB tunes. Interlude 2 8: Again these instrumentals are great. Dead in the Water 7.5: Rightfully left off the record. Doesn't really fit and is not the incredible classic people will have you believe. But a nice, touching song. God Help Us 5: Snooze button
SUMMARY: This album opens and closes brilliantly. It flags a bit in the middle, STMHTF through BAWS is a bit samey and boring from a melodic standpoint.
I think, on the whole, it is Noel's best album. There is nothing bad on here. I would give NGHFB an 8 and CY a 7. This one is 8-8.5 for me. Fort Knox, If Love Is The Law and The Man Who Built The Moon are all classics.

“Craig Revel Horwood”
“6”
Some of the lighter moments are very kitschy. Prefer the moodier points of the album.

I'd give it an 8.
Based on MG and DM being 9.5's (there's no such thing as a perfect, ladies and gents)
It's better than AYW, imo, and I'd give that a good 7 or 7.5

5/10 for me. I don't think any song is an 8/10..
My review:
1. Fort Knox: Good album opener 7/10
2. Holy Mountain: Still rubbish 3/10. Actually 3/10 of is probably unfair but i find it that bad that i can't even be objective about it like i can all the others. I can understand why people like it though.
3. Keep On Reaching: Brass is quite nice but that's about it. I think the vocal melodies are lacking. There's not a lot to love or hate about it. 5/10
4. It's a Beautiful World: Meh, i still think it could have been lifted straight from a Coldplay album. 5/10, or a 6 at a push. I dunno, it's not bad, i can just hear Chris Martin singing that chorus melody and that makes me shudder.
5. She Taught Me How To Fly: Quite a nice catchy guitar pop song. Honestly sounds like it could have been a filler on an a Vaccines album though. There's thousands of bands all over Soundcloud making this music, no better or worse. It's ok as far as generic guitar pop goes. Quite catchy and does it's job, nothing special but nice enough all the same. 6.5/10
6. Be Careful What You Wish For: The initial groove is nice enough but it doesn't go anywhere. That groove could have been a bed for a much more interesting song and journey. Just plods along without any inspired ideas. 4/10
7. Black And White Sunshine: I honestly find this one to be dreadful. I'm sure Noel has thrown better songs away than this. It's so generic and dull. 2/10. Horse shit set to music.
8. Interlude (Wednesday part 1): Just a boring little instrumental, nothing clever or interesting about it musically, sounds like a half finished idea. I do like interludes but it sounds like this was put in for the sake of it. 3/10
9. If Love Is The Law: Some of the music is nice, bit of a Motown beat and some of the instruments underneath are a bit Spector. Vocal melodies are ok in the verse. This song was crying out for a great chorus that never comes. It needs a lift somewhere to take it to another level. If you're gonna go a bit Phil Spector then have a great chorus like his records did. 5.5/10
10. The Man Who Built The Moon: By far the best song musically. This is more what i expected the album to be like. It's well put together and creative. If they had the ability to make a good piece of music like this, then i can't understand why things like Be Careful What You Wish For are such boring plodders. I can't rate it higher than i have because it's still a style of song i've heard before many times though and done much better than this one, but it's still pretty good - 7.5/10
11. End Credits: Like the interlude, just sounds like a half finished idea. Nice enough. 5.5/10
As for Dead In The Water and God Help Us All, i think they're just pure Noel-by-numbers. Boring. It's no wonder he forgot about Dead In The Water. I bet he's thrown away better songs than that too. DITW is probably 5/10 and the other one about 3/10.
Rating songs is hard though. I mean, what scale do you use? If A Day In The Life was a 10, then none of these songs are even a 4. I try to just rate it on my expectations of Noel and what he's done in his career, rather than music as a whole.
