In case it hasn't yet been brought up; one thing I really like, is the lack of ::guitar chug:: a one a two a three a fow before every tune

I'm not the biggest fan of Noel's solo albums, he usually has some good songs, but also songs I don't like at all (like Holy Mountain and Keep on Reaching on this album).
But the ones I like are: She Thought Me How To Fly (lyrics are bad, but that doesn't bother me anymore) Be Careful What You Wish For Black and White Sunshine Dead In The Water (but would like to hear a proper studio version)

I always found it amusing that you will find reviews on here (an Oasis/Gallagher fan forum of all places) that are worse than any review the album receives from music critics. Was the same for As You Were.

I think my overall opinion is, the right idea in terms of the new sounds and slightly different direction but going in with nothing has stopped this album from being anything more than just good.
I dont think the producer has got Noels best work from the approach hes taken. In fact in terms of just material, its Noels worst on an album IMO. Not to say these songs arent better than what hes put on albums though either. The production and ideas take them above say, his overall efforts on DOYS. But take away all of that and if this was a batch of songs ready for Dave Sardy then itd be fucking lynched.
Man Who Built The Moon is fucking brilliant and its a song that goes alongside anything hes written in the past 20 years. When i go past Taught Me How To Fly and Love Is The Law/Dead In The Water then im really struggling to find a song thats not just okay. The 4 songs ive mentioned are great and im glad we have them but id expect Noel to be able to give us more than this.
The ideas are there. But, to play Devils Advocate i find it incredible that its taken this long for either Gallagher to branch out a bit. The way they both talked about Brass in 2013 was like theyd just dicovered a new world.

The way they both talked about Brass in 2013 was like theyd just dicovered a new world. Probably not easy when you're in such a huge band, selling out stadiums etc. etc. when it gets to that point, i think a lot of bands write to fit their situation and place in music. Oasis became a stadium rock band. I do think the later era of Oasis was a case of just doing more of the same old thing to get an album out, tour it, make money. They just become a machine really. That's not to say they didn't care about the albums, i'm sure a lot of effort went into it but i honestly think they probably thought they were well past the stage where they were truly relevant, so what's the point in really pushing the boundaries? - I they were really going to experiment in big way, it should've and would've happened before 2000. It's not like Noel hasn't attempted it before in all fairness to him. His solo career was meant to start with the NGHFB album and the Amorphous Androgynous album, but it never happened.

Like some already said, I think this album suffers from the fact that it was written in the studio. I'm assuming that it means not from an inspiration, not fallen from the sky, as Noel says. The fact that Noel had to go home and write something based on a beat or whatever, in short time, hurts the album. Maybe thats why some songs have a better verse than chorus. Maybe with more time, we'd have another tesco story and a new Lock ALL the doors. I think thats one reason why dead in the water is is so awesome. Came from the sky and fell on his lap. I Wonder how different that scraped album was to this one.

Probably the biggest fall out of the sky moment for Noel and Oasis happened in the studio with Supersonic. Noel under pressure, in a studio, forcing the issue.

I will say it is a bit odd with how many songs do have a better verse than chorus (imo).
Of the 8 sung songs, I think only STMHTF and TMWBTM have the better chorus than the verse.
For me, where I like the big soaring chorus, yes this affected the album for me. The verses on this album are very, very strong though.

Fort Knox - Decent instrumental. It does nothing for me now, though. I just wanna get on to the next track. Skip.
Holy Mountain - I hated this at first, but has grown on me. Cheesy, sure, and the phrasing in the chorus is She Bangs, but I don't mind. It's catchy and fun.
Keep on reaching - One of the strongest vocally. I love the horns and the backing vocals.
Beautiful World - Could have been a great song if it had a better chorus. Not a big fan but fits perfectly in the album. The French bit also works for me.
She Taught Me How To Fly - The song that stood out for me in the previews. Love the guitars, the groove, the production. Can be a radio hit.
Be Careful What you wish for - I feel like singing Come Together or Waiting for the rapture when I hear the intro. Good atmospheric track.
B&W Sunshine - This is like the IGetBy of this album. Generic rock.
Interlude 1 - Useless.
If Love Is The Law - Pleasant, sunny tune. I like it.
The Man Who Built The Moon - Big tune that creates a menacing atmosphere. Not sure if I'd wanna listen to this one often. Can be an end credits song to a film.
Interlude 2 - Useless.
NGHFB's strongest album for me. I'd give this a 7 (from a 6 initially).

Does anyone else feel like Fort Knox sounds like a sample just being badly looped for the first minute?
When it leaked on twitter and i clicked it, i turned it off thinking someone had got a 10 second preview and looped it 30 times to make it look like its real time.
I really think Noel could have done better than that for an instrumental

Fort Knox - 8/10 Love how it builds and the female vocals Holy Mountain - 4/10 Cringe Keep on Reaching - 6/10 ok a bit different, I don't hate it It's a Beautiful World - 7/10 Bit too much U2 but its decent She Taught Me How to Fly - 6/10 Get too much of a cringey She is love vibe Be Careful What You Wish For - 3/10 Even flow...annoying and then goes nowhere I honestly can't listen past 60 secs Black & White Sunshine - 8/10 Really like this Interlude (Wednesday Part 1) - 5/10 Meh get no benefit from this If Love Is the Law - 7/10 Bit weird but I like it, bit Tarantino/cowboy film The Man Who Built the Moon - 7/10 I like it, although I don't get the classic feel everyone else does, something not quite right with vocal delivery End Credits (Wednesday Part 2) - 5/10 As above
Total: 6/10
Dead in the Water - 10/10 My god this is awesome, should have removed the talking that book ends it! Then 11/10 God Help Us All - 2/10 Indeed not even God could save this stinker

Can anyone else imagine Alex Turner singing The Man Who Built? Keep On Reaching similarly reminds me of Arctic Monkeys for some reason.
It's a really good album imo... no idea why people are going mad for Dead On The Water though. Dying of The Light Part II, and Dying Of The Light was weak.

I just heard it for the first time, on headphones, while walking in the sunshine.
Fuckin' wow. On first listen, what a brilliant record, feels like Noel but not at the same time? I'm blown away. I have to listen to it more!
The only thing I don't like is Be Careful What You Wish For which for me feels like a distant, weaker cousin to High Horse.
Apart from that, I like everything else. If Love Is The Law is majestic! A Christmas song!
