Been so busy this week I've hardly had time to listen, given it a quick listen and like what I hear on the whole. Will write up full impressions over the weekend when I get to listen to it properly.
The two songs I've chose to cover and grabbed me instantly though were The Man Who Built The Moon and Dead In The Water. Some of Noel's best ever work.

Very underwhelming for me. Shame as his voice is sounding better and better but not one track does anything for me. I hope I'll change my mind over time.

Not to be negative, but who else can't stand the new album? I get Noel wants to (and by all means is entitled to) experiment and go nuts yadda yadda but, for those that have heard it, what do you think of the new album? I absolutely can't stand it. The production is just horrendous, at least by my taste. It's like, take a typical Noel album and throw it in the Remix Blender. YUCK. I've had these thoughts since hearing the first snippets and singles etc but figured I'd keep my opinion until I could hear the whole thing. But this is just awful. I'm really bummed, lol.

Hell, I could stomach the production If I could make out what the hell I'm listening to! There's so much reverb it's like listening down the end of a long tunnel. I mean, I actually really like Fort Knox and a lot of the beats and stuff, but when I can't make out the song....

Well I was very lucky to have my album come through the post this morning. Luckily I was working from home, so I downloaded it instantly.
But WHAT an album, and what a musical journey I've been on since this afternoon. It's on replay after replay after replay. Every song sounds so different, in particular the first four. He's really thrown off the shackles to such an extent that it's almost schizophrenic in nature. Completely mad and the sense of fun makes it the strongest opening to a Gallagher related album since Morning Glory.
I would say the last quarter of the album (the two instrumentals, Love Is The Law, Man Who Built The Moon and Dead In The Water) really sums up what is great about this (yeah I will include Dead In The Water because I think it ties up everything on an emotional level). There's a lushness to the instrumentals, there's the euphoria of Love Is The Law (the melody is the most optimistic and joyful since Noel's heyday), the widescreen brooding psychedelia of Man Who Built The Moon and then, bam, the emotional sucker punch that brings us all back down to earth with Dead In The Water.
There is however a wobble in the middle. The misgivings are Black & White Sunshine (6/10) and She Taught Me How To Fly (5/10). Not bad but sounds like Noel on autopilot and when we're promised something different from the previous old hat dad rock material he's churned out the last 17 years, then it doesn't really fit with this album in my opinion. Be Careful What You Wish For? Ach, it's a pleasant sounding psychedelic induced stupor with some great instrumentation but nothing to get your teeth stuck into.
The real highlights are Love Is The Law, Man Who Built The Moon, Dead In The Water, Holy Mountain, Keep On Reaching and Beautiful World. Absolutely delighted with it - the album I always wanted from Noel.
Fort Knox - 8 Holy Mountain - 9 Keep On Reaching - 8 Beautiful World - 9 She Taught Me How To Fly - 5 Be Careful What You Wish For - 7 Black & White Sunshine - 6 Interlude - 8 If Love Is The Law - 9.5 The Man Who Built The Moon - 9.5 End Credits - 8 Dead In The Water - .................
Oh fuck it, let's give Dead In The Water a PERFECT 10. Noel's not going to write these songs all the time, so forget about an acoustic album as these tunes just don't come around often. True beauty is only captured in moments, and is raw and spontaneous when all pure emotional outpouring defies conscious thought, the latter of which is the enemy of true art. This is one of those moments. This has been unsullied by contrived production techniques and the temptation to finecraft the song as time goes on which many artists would do would undoubtedly spoil it. Instead it captures a state of mind for Noel that you just couldn't recreate or try to complement further. Too many times the term 'classic Noel' is bandied about, but this is the first time as an Oasis fan I can honestly say 'yep, it's up there with the very best'. It genuinely is not a cliche to say this is one of his best songs ever.
Dead In The Water, even if it is a massive departure from the rest of the album (think of its job as Married With Children does - a downer after the epic highs), deserves its place even if it is a bonus track. Brilliant albums need to take you on an emotional journey, and this one takes you on a euphoric high to the depths of darkness inside 50 minutes.

My ratings:
Fort Knox: 7 - Solid opener.
Holy Mountain: 8 - Love it. Catchy as anything you'll ever hear this year.
Keep On Reaching: 6 - The first 40 seconds remind me of a porn movie! (what does that sayof me?) I like the idea of the song but it's not going anywhere for me.
It's A Beautiful World: 8 - The verses are mega, i really really like them. The chorus is also good, but I don't like the voice effect.
She Taught Me How To Fly: 9 - Man, this is brilliant. First when I heard the live take I didn't get it, but somewhere down the line I couldn't get it out of my head. Now this is probably my favourite track of the album.
Be Careful What You Wish For: 6 - It's ok. Album filler
Black & White Sunshine: 6 - I don't like the structure of this song, but there are good elements in here. A more traditional take on structure would have benefitted the song.
Interlude: 7 - I like it, it fits well for the album.
If Love Is The Law: 9 - This should definitely be the next single. So catchy, so beautiful. It's a more mature approach to classic Noel songwriting.
The Man Who Built The Moon: 8 - Really good arrangements and the track is also strong. "We should've never left town in the first place" sounds so haunting that it's scary.
End Credits: 6 - Not as strong as the first one, I wish the album could have ended on a stronger note.
Bonus tracks: Dead In The Water: 8 - Classic Noel, this is beautiful.
God Help Us All: 6 - Sounds a bit half arsed, could have been done more interesting and produced better. But ok for a bonus track I guess.
Overall rating: 8 / 10 - Some really outstanding tracks, some good, and some average. No shockers here, a very solid album overall. Congratulations Noel!

I enjoyed the album on the first couple of listens, but the last couple of days I've kept wanting to hear it over and over again. I've had about 10-15 listens all the way through and it gets better each listen.
I got bored of a few songs on CY. TGWXE, TDOTL and TRS (I still think BOTMI is one of Noels greatest songs ever). Who Built the Moon has interesting lyrics, different styles and for the most part is a happy, 'joyous' to use Noels words, album which sounds better the louder you play it. TMWBTM is flipping amazing and deserves more credit, ILITL, IABW, STMHTF and BAWS are amazing, even without Noels typical 'lighters in air moments'.
Even the fillers, KOR and BCWYWF have really grown on me
The only criticisms I've got at this moment is TMWBTM should be the last song, the last track should be dropped (I always skip it) and there should have been one more song on the album.

Although i like the album alot more than you seemingly do, i get your points here. It isnt new songwriting from Noel in the slightest. Theres so many usual inspirations, lyrics and references. The 3 songs i really do like are She Taught Me How To Fly, Man Who Built The Moon and Love Is The Law and i think the production on these certainly gets the very maximum out of them. The studio approach to just doing new material means the rest is very weak by Noels standards and the producer has basically stopped Noel from having a great album.

BAWS. Cool as hell. Only negative point is I wish I could hear more of Noels vocals Any of my fellow Scots on the board will tell you this is not a good acronym for a song title

I definitely went overboard in my post there - that was right after my first listen. I was just like "what the fuuuccckkk" With another few listens I'm digging it a lot more for what it is but I know it'll never be my favorite. It's just not my cup of tea. I love the Chasing Yesterday, call it genericism or whatever, singalong choruses and anthemic tunes. The songs that you know the lyrics to on the first listen because they are so catchy, ya know? The first 2 Noel albums are that for me. A perfect continuation of what I loved with Oasis. This is totally different and, while I'm not gonna concede defeat and call myself wrong ( ) I gotta live with what this is. Lol. Just not my cup. At all. That being said I've so far enjoyed She Taught Me to Fly, Keep On Reaching, and Black & White Sunshine the most. But then again I guess that's to be expected because those are among the most "normal" songs on the album. B/W Sunshine is actually fantastic for me. Still don't dig the production, but the song itself is exactly what I listen to Noel for. Just a great song!

Early rating of the songs - I'll do a proper review this weekend, more than likely:
1) Fort Knox = 9 2) Holy Mountain = 8 3) Keep on Reaching = 7 4) Beautiful World = 8.5 5) She Taught Me How to Fly = 8 6) Be Careful What You Wish For = 7.5 7) Black & White Sunshine = 6 8) Interlude (Wednesday Part One) = 7.5 9) If Love is the Law = 8 10) The Man Who Built the Moon = 9.5 11) End Credits (Wednesday Part Two) = 8.5 OVERALL: 8.5/10
Rating the interludes as interludes, of course.
(Dead in the Water = 8.5)

REally like the album
Some of the songs (love is the law, black and white) have a jersey shore sound (early springsteen, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul, SouthSide Johnny).
REally is a joyful Album..
Happy days!

It's like he's singing in a cave. I listened to it again on better headphones and I'm still feeling very "meh" about the album. Just not my "cup of tea" this year.

I find that music always sounds best through noise-canceling headphones, but not this album. If I play it through my surround sound system, it becomes a completely different beast.

Riverman and The Right Stuff were clearly the first steps towards this record, though I honestly prefer the sound of those two to most of what we got here. It's not a BAD record by any means! Though it's still missing some kind of kick up the arse. If anything, I'd say it's not different ENOUGH, certainly not ballsy enough. Too cheesy in places as well (If Love Is The Law especially).
I wanted more risk!!
