Only song Noel could follow up soon similar to the vibe of DITW is Don't Stop.. He said in an interview hes done recording it in the first album but dropped it because it sounds too similar to the songs.. Here's the interview: genius.com/Noel-gallaghers-high-flying-birds-noel-gallagher-reddit-ama-lyrics ..I think it'd be great for a christmas single since its ready..
NG: ''I pretty much just answered that question about 20 minutes ago. It's a song called "Don't Stop..." I've already recorded it. It didn't make it onto "Chasing Yesterday" because it sounded a bit too much like what was already on the first High Flying Birds album'' Interview NG: "1.) That song is called "Don't stop..." I've already recorded it. The reason it didn't make it onto "Chasing Yesterday" was because it didn't fit the vibe of the album. Needless to say, when I finally get 'round to releasing it, I think it will be one of my best ever releases. The sound of it is more akin to the first album, and I felt like "Chasing Yesterday" had moved on a little bit. But it's a great song, and I love it, and when I finally release it, you're going to love it (fans, that is)

Shit, woke up happy hungry of album rviews and I only find your posts and people attacking Noel, attacking Noel's voice, and talking bout Liam's relevance in the zeitgeist (sic). Hard times men, hard times.

People writing that this is "Noel by numbers" are completely missing the point. Can he write E minor acoustic ballads in his sleep? Sure, and 99 times out of 100 you'll get another Shout It Out Loud. Dead in the Water is the outlier amongst them.

Is it in Em, then a Cadd9 and G, with the little Dsus thing that Noel likes to chuck in every now and then? There's definitely a run down as well, though I'm not going to say my ear is good enough to pick up on the exact chords. Guessing Capo 3rd fret, as that's what he used it on during that session and Noel is genuinely so lazy I doubt he even bothered moving it. When I'm playing I normally just stumble on certain melodies that I'll then realise are actually songs - if you get me. Mucky Fingers, Shock Of The Lightning - I figured both of those out that way. Trying to do it this way more as opposed to watching vids etc.

I don't have any instruments around me, but just by listening to the song:
Capo 3rd fret
Verse: Cadd9 - Em7 - Dsus4 - Cadd9 - Em7 - D - Cadd9 - G - Em7 - Dsus4 - Cadd9 - Em7 - Dsus4
Chorus: Cadd9 - G - Em7 - Dsus4 - Cadd9 - Dsus4 - Em7 - Dsus4 - Cadd9 - Em7 - Dsus4 - Cadd9 - Em7 - Dsus4
(In the second verse, he adds a G: Cadd9 - G - Em7 - Dsus4 instead of Cadd9 - Em7 - Dsus4).
etc. (you get the idea)

Hmmm to me it's more
Verse Cadd9 Em7 (030020) Em7 (030220) Dsus4 etc
The rest seems about right

Love it. Ok maybe a bit too long and very noel-ish BUT it gives me shivers.
"So don’t walk away love There’s never enough That could make me crash On the broken glass Let the storm rage I’d die on the waves But I will not rest While love lies dead in the water
Dead in the water…"
Great lyrics.

Cheers guys, I'll give it a go later.
Actually been working on a few of my own songs lately. Nothing special or anything obviously, or that I plan on recording particularly, but just been getting used to coming up with my own melodies, and have to say I'm really enjoying it and think I've stumbled on a half-decent one that I've been fine tuning in the last few days, but I really want to give these new songs a go.
They all seem relatively simple in terms of the rhythm (STMHTF, for example, I learned from just one watch of the Jools' version), with the riffs doing most of the work.

Nice I learnt guitar and songwriting by playing over Oasis records. That's the power of Noel's songwriting, it's very simple yet he manages to come up with memorable songs. And it makes you understand that you can write a totally different song with the exact same chords. When you start trying to write a song, it's hard to sperate chords progression and melody. But that comes with time. Sometimes the best things are the simpliest. songwriting is great, even if it's only for yourself. Best therapy ever.

Would be nice to hear a full-band version live, same as he did with 'Talk Tonight'.

Noel has this unnerving ability to stop you in your tracks and just listen to the song, and then make you think you can go through the same creative process yourself. It sets off tangents and ideas in your head that you can't wait to try and mould into something. It's not groundbreaking or complex or has twiddly solos everywhere, but the emotion in it is something else. The backing story adds to its ethos: the whole 'I was just playing something to myself that I wasn't even aware was being recorded, and I won't record it properly because it was a moment in time' I think those chords look about right, by the way. Will give them a run later on

It feels like a distraction after the second instrumental. It should've had some more chatter or silence before it starts. Mind you it's gorgeous, but it distracts me from the actual album.

Its not an album track in the first place. Its just an extra on certain editions and shouldnt be judged in context with the record that ends at End Credits. Its basically a b-side, but those barely exist anymore. Just move it somewhere else if its that distracting. As far as the song by itself, I think its one of the best he's done post-Oasis. Strong sentimentality, great vocal, and an interesting lyric. I love it.

The backing story adds to its ethos: the whole 'I was just playing something to myself that I wasn't even aware was being recorded, and I won't record it properly because it was a moment in time' Absolutely, that can apply to DM and MG, and BHN to some extent too. A moment in time, something you grab in the air, that can never be recreated. It's wonderful when it happens. I've done a few gigs and demos myself, and when it happens, it's something else, you can't really understand how or why. I came across musicians (guitarists mainly) who are into very technical stuff, and they don't understand how you can be moved by the simple solo on DLBIA, for instance. They just say "it's easy to play". but that's not the point. In that sense, Noel is a genius.

Listening to this song and feeling a certain sadness upon realising that most people won't ever hear this song makes me realise how beautiful it is.

I love the deep reverb on Noel's vocals here.
You can definitely picture a lone man inside an empty room strumming his acoustic guitar. So basic yet so good.
