Funny thing is that when you play FK and then HM, it sounds very much like some of the latest Kasabian's album. And those who praise this two songs the most are the biggest Kasabian haters. Sort of correct, but more accurately, this is what Kasabian would sound like if they had any degree of talent. Well, ok, you've got a point.

They're alright. I don't dislike either, but I'm not overly impressed with either. Fort Knox is the better. I'm hoping that the album is on whole stronger than these two. I do like the direction so far and am overall positive.

As a songwriter, he can obviously do what he wants and rightly so. But for me, hearing these 2 songs in comparison to Rock n Roll Star, Live Forever, Champagne Supernova etc...there is no comparison and I feel sad that 'that' Noel has gone. noel wrote those songs when he was in his 20's. just like bruce springsteen is no longer the same guy who wrote 'born to run' and 'thunder road'. musicians change, songwriters change. they get older, their style changes and evolves. the last time noel tried to emulate the style/songwriting of one of the early albums we got heathen chemistry. if someone doesn't like this new material and new sound i respect their opinion 100%, but i have a feeling those slagging off the new material are the same people who would be criticizing noel had he decided to scrap the album altogether at the last minute (ala death in vegas and amorphous androgynous).

Spot on! I also feel had Noel released a third album in the same vain as the last 2 solo albums, he would have been slated even more on here for not being adventurous or brave enough. Now that he has pushed for a new, different sound, he is still getting slated by some. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

Don't like HM, Fort Knox is a great opener.

Fort Knox - 8/10 (might be a point higher if there weren't so many effects on the song) Holy Mountain - 6/10 (production is shocking!!!)
Weakest lead off singles for an NG album.

If I had only heard Fort Knox, I would think this might be the first NGHFB album I'm going to buy (even though the ringing sound really annoys me). But I don't like Holy Mountain at all, so I'm unsure...

I like Fort Knox but I still despise HM with every fiber of my being and it feels misplaced after FN. FN sounds modern and forwards and HM sounds backwards, if that makes any sense...
so I don't know where I stand. I guess I have to listen to the whole album and see what else is there

Fort Knox is a good instrumental. Holy Mountain is shite.

For me, both songs are overproduced to the point of nausea, and pretty self-indulgent. They're not RUBBISH by any means...but Noel should keep stuff like this to himself rather than inflicting it on us! He should stick to guesting on tracks like Fort Knox, when they're produced by proper electronic artists.

Fort Knox is what I was waiting from this record. It really sounds like he's experimenting with new things and it sounds amazing. Psychedelia, trip-hop, dance... Yes please! Holy Mountain sounds like very average indie rock to me There are much better bands with better vocalists out there if I want to listen to that kind of music.

This is just my opinion but I'm going to be honest. I completely understand that Noel wanted to take NGFHB in a new direction but I think both songs are absolutely terrible. Holy Mountain is an embarrassment and Fort Knox I guess if slightly better but still....WTF. The two weakest songs on As You Were are a million times better. The battle is already over between the two brothers as much as we are sick of talking about that, its true. Id be embarrassed to have friends listen to these songs and say Noel Gallagher wrote them... BUT if people like it fantastic! However, if this is the best of the album it could be the first Gallagher album since 94' that I won't get, which is such a shame. Sad but true. Holy Mountain is "interesting", but I have no words for Fort Knox. Waste of time.

I wouldn't say I love both Fort Knox and Holy Mountain, but I am captivated by the new sound, without a doubt.

I went on a little run this morning and played FK and HM to start out. Usually anything Gallagher related is terrible for running since it is too mid-tempo for me. This may be the first time it worked. I never thought Noel had the BPM in him, but it was both a cool listen and perfect for the morning.

Cancelling a record order because you don't like 2/11 songs? Internet is a wonderful place.

I actually love running to Noel or mid-tempo Oasis because I find that the tempo of the songs becomes unimportant when the music is so loud and the melodies are so damn good!! My faves include Morning Glory, Lock All The Doors, Columbia, Acquiesce, Some Might Say, It's Good To Be Free.......I know, I'm weird

You don't know what you're paying for,so downloading it for a taste before buying it's absolutely alright with me. I do it very often. But if you got the money to preorder an album from an artist that you like, and cancel it because of two songs (and one of them its the fucking intro, not a song at all) is something that blows my mind. I will download it to see if I like it before I order it,but I love every single record from a Gallagher and got them all. As much experimental that the album gets,I'm 100% that I will enjoy it. Because its Noel Gallagher,he got a writing style in songs, and I like his voice. Could say the same thing with every other artist that I like. And if I got the money to preorder it,I definitely would.

Now with 3 songs in, I think I do it the same. First listen, then order. Btw the first time I will do so for any Oasis/Gallagher release. So far I have bought everything without previous listening. Holy Mountain disappointed me, Fort Knox really shocked me, She taught me how to fly make a little hope.
