But to me Weller doesn't really have an era. He wrote a shit load of great songs in The Jam a much smaller clutch for The Style Council and then a load more great songs solo covering a variety of different styles and taking in many different influences. I have thought he was a bit of a dick head at times but his talent is undeniable. Undeniably talented. As I said earlier I never really clicked with most of his solo work though. And by era I just meant age wise. They both came to prominence in the late seventies with an angry young man persona. I just much prefer EC songwriting. We are talking about two great songwriters without a doubt though. He may have remained active but I think most people would think of The Jam when thinking of him at his peak. Yeah EC is great himself no doubt. I agree people would probably think of The Jam but I'd say Wild Wood and Stanley Road are up there with his best work as is 22 Dreams. He turns his hand to many things and mostly nails it. Haha I still don't care what he thinks of AYW though.

Well done Paul, you've earned first reach-around from Noel tonight.

I think Weller is probably the greatest British songwriter of all time but if he's only heard a couple of songs then I'm not interested in hearing him pass judgement on a album. Its worthless. Now that AYW is a success, I expect more "slightly negative"/"not-so-positive" comments from established musicians, trying to put the brakes on.

Do Weller albums shift over 100k units in Week 1 these days?

God forbid Weller has an opinion I'm pretty sure Noel would be ok with it tbf 😆 Honestly, Weller isn't a Noel hanger-on. In actuality, Noel is a Weller hanger-on. Weller has always been his own man, and that's an undeniable fact.

Why Liam?
Paul didn't even dis the album ffs.
He said he'd heard a few of the singles, and that he was chuffed for Liam to be back.
He said they sounded like Beady Eye (which to an extent, they do!) and that some of the lyrics were a bit pony (which if he's speaking about Chinatown and FWIW, he's not wrong!).

Weller complimented Liam! People have got far too carried away with AYW. It's a solid album - nothing special - but solid. A 7 or 8/10 - good tunes and Liam's on good form. It'll be great live, but people labelling it as one of the great albums are deluded. It's better than anything Beady Eye did and it's great to see Liam back.

Feels like Liam and Weller don't get along that well, and this is just an excuse to have a go at each other.

Weller simply brown-nosing Noels ringpiece. As is done vice-versa. Nothing to see here.

Liam didn't call him a nipple, so I guess he's not that bothered.

To be fair to Liam he did a agree to put Weller's clothing on Pretty Green, it was utterly honking ![P-)](//storage.proboards.com/1258801/images/aISM4jCl_eWjI5L9xvHU.gif) Those vests. THOSE VESTS.

I dont like Weller's music. But he's right, it sounds like Beady Eye. A better Beady Eye.

People need to stop to jump on a bandwagon. If Weller doesn't like Liam's album and if Liam strikes back Weller's comment, it doesn't bother me at all. I love Weller and I love Liam Gallagher. It's all matters for me. I dont like Weller's music. But he's right, it sounds like Beady Eye. A better Beady Eye. I'm a huge Weller fan since his The Jam years. Saw him live for 11 times and met him in person several times. But I don't care if he likes Liam's album or not. I don't need to agree with everything he says. I disagree with you. To me (and many others on here as well), this album "As You Were" is much better than DGSS and BE. I love this album. It's a great "come back" album for Liam and I'm very happy and happy for him too. Although I still think Beady Eye had a good potential with their second album BE. It was a shame that so many things happened after this album came out (Gem's injury, tour had to be cancelled, Liam's love child)

But As You Were sounds like Beady Eye, yes the songwriting is a bit better and the production as well. But to say it's all new and unheard of, no way. Well except for It doesn't have to be That way. Which is the only real surprise.

In the same way people are saying that weller didn't criticise liam, Liam didn't criticise weller In his tweet.
Basically said said he doesn't care for his opinion, he's his own man - and doesn't need the validation of anyone else!
