I think "let you join my one man band" is quite a nice bit of wordplay. Yeah I don't mind it either

Love the song! Hoping the album is a steer away from the usual Noel stuff, I love Noel’s first 2 albums but needs to freshen it up and this song along with that preview is very exciting.
I don’t mind Liam’s album but find it bland after a few listens, hoping Noel’s is more fresh.

Yeah, because Little James is poetry. That's the point. The quoted lines are no better than "you live for your toys even though they make noise". Liam at least had the excuse of writing for his stepson, through a dad's eyes. Holy Mountain's still a great tune thanks to its irresistible melody, but the lyrics are wank. Really? I quite like them. They're down to earth and paint a nice mental picture. Like a mixture between Waiting For The Rapture and Riverman with a twist of She's Electric. I don't think the lyrics are bad at all, but on the other hand I don't dislike the lyrics of China Town either, which seem to get a lot of hate.

To be honest, I really just hear David Holmes with a more Noel Gallagher-y structure. The noisy brass, the flutes, the bass, all a far cry from the pop trends at the moment.

I agree, generic pop does NOT have heavy brass and tin whistles pummelling your ears. The lyrics 'dance dance if you do the dance' just adds to the wildness and eccentricity of the song. It's a bizarre and fun lyric, it's not meant to be taken so seriously and I love it. How anyone could prefer the maudlin, saccharine load of syrupy shite that is the Little James lyrics over this is beyond me.

I think "let you join my one man band" is quite a nice bit of wordplay. the problem is Noel Gallagher singing "Dance dance, if you do the dance" I agree that the lyrics are atrocious, but while Noel's grown as a writer over the years, some of his most memorable, well-loved songs have lyrics that can charitably be described as "perfunctory". He can write near-poetry in the verses to Some Might Say, and then placeholders in the chorus. 22 years later, I still don't know why her sister has a blister on her palm. And why's Elsa into Alka Seltzer, if not because he was probably too stoned to think of a better line? With Noel, it's all about the melody. I love that he seems to be genuinely having fun. Even with the little dad-dance in the video

Current trends yes but this is firmly rooted in 60's pop music, nothing wrong with that, its catchy but nothing different. I've heard brass and flutes before, always good to hear them again mind.

Nobody is calling it 'original' or 'experimental' but they are calling it different. And it is massively different for Noel, and that's what many of us wanted. Noel is never going to be truly original and I don't think anyone was expecting him to produce a Kid A, as he will always be a product of his record collection. And I'm just enjoying hearing him release a product that isn't from the same two or three sources he's usually plundered in the last number of years. There's no obvious direct influence in this tune, it's an amalgamation of a whole host of artists, classic and contemporary. I can say the same for all the clips we've heard in the advert - you can pinpoint where certain influences come from. The main thing is, it's different.

Agree. It's absolutely not generic though. It sounds very different from most things that are on mainstream radio right now.

As a 22-year-old it's so jarring to come in here for this music and hear it being called "pop", "generic"(, "EDM", "disco", "attempt at the charts", I'm sure amongst other things). It's just insane. Ffs, Frank Turner's new tune which has like this basic piano-guitar-drum instrumentation had a dude on YouTube going on about "this EDM shit" and "I'm still a punk so excuse me" and this forum isn't any better.

I haven't listened to this song once in the last 5 days or so I don't feel the urge to either. This has to be the first time happening to me since becoming a fan in 1997.
It hurts my ears. And I'm not trying to annoy people here. I'm as big a Noel Gallagher fan as anyone on here. IMO he's the best songwriter of the last 30 years, up there with the greats but I'm just so disappointed with this song.

She's Electric is lovely little pop song which I would say is in a different league to Holy Mountain, melody wise, production wise, vocal wise and even the lyrics are better. She's Electric is criminally underrated amongst Oasis fans and why? For the life of me I do not know. It was single material.
Shoot me.

I'm getting to like this song. Still feel it's a bit meh, Noel's vocal doesn't fit in very well, but definitely understand those who love it. But man, it's not like we've got some groundbreaking/sophisticated masterpiece striking you as counterintuitive that only professional and visionary minds can digest right? It's funny how fans have been quoting sales number to demonstrate why Noel's the greatest songwriter of his generation, and when commercial reception seems not rosy (and it's even too early to tell yet) they begin to dismiss it and stick to critics views. Guess this isn't about who's right, it's about which one works in your favor. The dust will settle and only time can tell. No matter how it turns out to be, I'm glad Noel's made a different record. Experiment can succeed or fail, no big deal. What matters is he tried and I'm happy for that. I'm sorry but for those who like it, including the critics - yet again - who has said it is 'experimental'? Putting words in the mouth of those who like it I think. The fact it isn't experimental and is a straight up pop a song is a further indictment on a some of those Oasis fans who hate it, further proving their conservative and narrow minded tastes.Hang on a sec, forget about "narrow minded" Oasis fans, does it appeal to the general public as a straight up pop song should do? Isn't commercial reception an indicator then?
