I still remember that famous clip of Dick Clark on American Bandstand debuting the strawberry fields forever video and then asking the fans in the crowd their thoughts. They mostly ALL hated it. They look foolish now since that song is an all time masterpiece. Granted I am not saying Holy Mountain is anywhere near that comparison but it has more to do with hot takes and people’s ability to accept change. Those were probably false fans... More seriously, I still remember hearing Strawberry Fields Forever for the first time when I was 14 and being totally blown away. For me, it's one of the three best songs off all the time, a total masterpiece. A song full of creativity, timeless melodies and a gorgeous melancholy. It was totally new at the time, a crazy and groundbreaking inventivity. Anyway, just nothing like Holy Mountain, which is just a change for NG and even that is debatable... I think they were real deal fans. Were you 14 in 1967 though? To hear it in the context of its own time is something else. Less bands, musicians, pop icons, media outlets and genres. This was probably extremely alarming for people.

I was wondering if publishing Hm a few days after AYW was a mistake...what do you think?

I was wondering if publishing Hm a few days after AYW was a mistake...what do you think? I've been wondering how much they had to navigate around Noel being on tour, As You Were coming out, and Taylor Swift too. I don't think this was the window they wanted and they tried to do the best they could with the hand they were dealt. Because this is very very different from the two previous releases where Noel was there to sell the music and they had a lot more preplanned appearances. It feels like they ended up releasing anyways this week because they knew they had to sell concert tickets, push pre-orders, and get something to bridge to November when It's a Beautiful World would be released.

OK, I've done this comparison before to It's Raining Men but here's an even more direct example. Below is the video to The Pointer Sisters' Jump, which was a hit and reached #3 in 1984. If you go to the 55 second mark, you will most likely hear what I heard the first time I heard Bag It Up, which was an undeniable link between the two. Do you think this makes Bag It Up any lesser of a song? And it was the first thing i thought of when i heard Bag It Up too! Im not telling anyone they cant like this. Im simply saying when it gets to the chorus im imagining Ricky Martin with half his shirt undone smiling at me and its kind of a distraction.Listen, i think even without the comparisons it is weak for a Noel song and even weaker for a Noel single. Like i said before i would get it more if it was a taster for things to come and used as such but an actual lead single is worrying. I dont like the way the new direction leads some people to say well if you dont like it you are stuck in your ways. I like the elements of the song that remind me of other artists but as a song i think its weak and that ricky martin thing wont go away from me. On a side note, maybe ripping off songs is a better route to take? Least you know who youre ripping John Lennon on purpose and not Ricky Martin unintentionally. Will any journalist be brave enough to ask Noel if hes heard the comparison being made? This + 1 its incredibly distracting..there’s no getting past it for me...bam...she bangs i have watched some of that YT Noel ‘plagiarist’ videos....he’s clever eg DLBIA has the same chord progression as Pachelbel’s Cannon...who would have thought it. But this reference is so jarring and...obvious on a separate note..I don’t see Noel’s having so much fun with this...either in the video or the live performance...it’s early days though granted

I don't think that Noel ever heard this song tbh. And I'd rather listen to this type of songs than plodding-mid-tempo ones. I also think that he clearly has fun. But to each their own. PS I've seen a couple of ‘plagiarist’ videos. Are they made by a guy who hates Oasis? I don't remember correctly.

I'd be lying if I said the Ricky Martin song doesn't cross my mind whenever I 1) hear it for real and 2) Hear it in play my head.
Whoever first made the comparison, damn you!

Song reminds me of this
I finally listened to his album preview with the 3snippets and i think this may be an interesting album, but i still have a big problem with HM, just sounds sooo wrong to me, sounds flat and i really hate his voice on this one, he really sounds like shit when he's forcing too much on his voice, the song should have been like 2min shorter or just an instrumental, i feel that something is really wrong on this, and i think the mixed opinions around here tend to prove me i'm not that wrong about that.
I don't see how can a song can be worse than this one on his album, still dont get people comparing them to DM's song tho

I've discovered this song 3 says ago, when HM came out (I thought RM was one-hit wonder). PS Liam likes Livin' da vida Loca btw.

After 9583742837487582 listens I'm starting to dig this. The video helps,he looks cool and finally I got to see him singing without playing. Also saw the live version and well,he seems to enjoy the tune, dancing and all that. Still think its a weak single, but well.

Just heard it on the radio for the first time (not through choice). The DJ's immediate comments after it played were "Ricky Martin will be an even richer man when the royalties cheques are crossed." Woeful tune.

Woeful tune. At least they play it on the radio. Ricky Martin gets better promotion than Noel thanks to all these comparisons.

Spotify charts are a ludicrous way of judging anything. If that's what record companies actually use, then it's no surprise the industry is off down the pan It's not completely ludicrous. Just about every music listener under 50 uses spotify. It makes singles meaningless when one artist's entire new album takes up 17/20 in the top 20. Tell me that isn't ludicrous?

I don't get the 'this sounds like a BHN era tune' BHN was a cool time where they were unashamedly arrogant. This on the other hand is completely uncool and will be forgotten about within a month. I feel like it's his McCartney 'granny music' moment. Just because it's over 110bpm doesn't instantly make it a BHN era tune.
I really like the sound of the songs on the advert so I am really hoping this is just to get people talking about him again.

This album is different At least this song doesn't sound plodding like FoN or MF. But it doesn't reminds me of BHN either.

I remember someone commented in Kasabian(?) section that a "grower" means you just lower your standards on each listening and it ends up being alright in the end for kasabian fans, thats true. oi Love them live. They're honestly superb if you're in the right mood (ahem) and the right age. The gig I went to at the King Power after Leicester won the league is by far the best musical event I've ever been to - including any NG/LG gigs. But, I have to say, I can't listen to their albums all the way through. Live they're top class, but their recent studio output is iffy.
