Am I the only one who has a serious problem with the downlaod from official store?
The 320 MP3 is unlistenable across all my devices. There are YouTube videos that have better audio !

I don't know why someone thinks that HM has no melody - It's an absolute earworm and it can stuck in your head for hours.

#84 first day on Spotify. Not bad, not impressive. We´ll have to wait for next days to see if it could be on top 40 in the singles charts next friday.

I'm genuinely puzzled that such a catchy little tune could generate such negative response. I spent all day listening to it and I'm gonna have to keep myself from overplaying it until the album gets released. Anyway, for those who claim to be worried about the album after listening to this, here's a thought: take a look at the last two albums. You see a pattern emerging? Both of them begin with a "big" song and have a catchy, lightweight tune as the second track. It looks like it might be the same with Who Built the Moon. I love Dream On and In the Heat of the Moment, but there's no denying they don't carry the same weight as Everybody's on the Run and Riverman. That's why I wouldn't worry too much even if I thought Holy Mountain was shit. The last two records are pretty eclectic anyway. Think of Holy Mountain as a palate cleanser between Fort Knox (which has the potential to be massive from what we've heard) and the other tracks. This track order is something Noel has done on many of his albums. Big opener, catchy, poppy 2nd track, slower ballad third track. DM, WTS, BHN and SOTSOG all follow this same pattern, as does his 2 solo albums. I bet you any money track 3 - Keep on Reaching, will be a slow ballad number.

Maybe it will grab the radio listener's ear, but that's the problem with many modern songs. Repetitive melodies but definitely not unique and great. It's not something you would sing if you haven't heard the tune in a long time.

Thing is with Spotify, isn't it purely on downloads/listens? It's hard to judge because - like that Ginger Muppet earlier this year - a band/artist can have every song off an album in the top 40 all at once.

I remember Noel saying that he thinks track no.3 is the most important in an album. He says that was usually the 'big' single in Oasis records (even though it's really only actually the case on 3-4 max of their albums...)

Maybe it's because I've heard the most dullest ones and I don't follow pop music that much. (I'm not a part of 'le wrong generation' btw, I like modern indie rock).

Repetitive melodies but definitely not unique and great. It's not something you would sing if you haven't heard the tune in a long time. Most of modern pop songs are super bland and dull, a catchy song is a rarity. this is because nowadays songs are built on just one hook. Back in the day, we've had fully formed songs, even for pop songs. Now it's just one line like "bitch better have my money" or "despacito", "dont believe me just watch" stuff like that. People dont remember the rest of the song and dont care, because the attention span has shortened drastically in the past few years, blame social media. The hook is the only thing that will get stuck in their head and that's how mainstream artists are making a carrer. It's not full choruses or songs now, just short advertising slogans wrapped around 2 mins of heavy rhythm during when you can check facebook or instagram. Music is not a kind of art where you sit and listen anymore, it became something to be the background for something else.

Live Forever and Wonderwall are the only real big no.3 track singles. Magic Pie never got released, and Who Feels Love is, meh.

Awright? Joined a while ago, but don't think I've ever posted. What a time for us. New material from them both. I'm loving AYW.
But on topic, I really really like Holy Mountain. I read very very negative reaction before I heard it, and I approached it with much trepidation. I was shocked at first, but by the end of the first play I found myself smiling. I've played it loads over the past 24 hrs. I really like the story of the sampled Tin whistle, and I agree with a few posters above, that this seems to represent Noel having fun with what he's doing. You get a sense that this is the album he's been wanting to put out for a while.
What I find interesting too is that HM wasn't on the album teaser...was it? Having given that a few plays yesterday too, I am looking forward to the album a lot now when previously I was quite worried.
Long live the Chief xx

Who Feels Love was the 'ballad' on that album I suppose, just lacking in real quality (though the MTV version is great and I enjoy playing it acoustically). If I Had A Gun... was also 3 on NGHFB1

It's amazing how much of an overreaction this song has brought.
Didn't listen to it all day yesterday, was still stuck in my head.

It's just a really colourful and energetic bit of pop, with a few more influences than you would typically get from a lead Noel Gallagher single. No need to overthink it, just whistle along!

It's a repetitive structure, but that's not melody. Melody is the individual music that an instrument plays. The bass on this song isn't repetitive. It's melody is actually quite colorful. Musically, the sum total of all the instruments isn't melody, it's a harmony of melodies, with each instrument having it's own. This song is actually overflowing with melody.

As with all the great NG numbers. Don't overthink it, just go along for the footapping, whistling ride.
