Alone On The Rope is still his best I believe. Agreed but IABW is brilliant. Honest question, why do people like Alone on The Rope so much?

Agreed but IABW is brilliant. Honest question, why do people like Alone on The Rope so much? Uh, why else? Because its a great song? lol Its like asking why someone likes hamburgers. Music is subjective. Many fans like Alone On the Rope, some don't. Neither are wrong.

Alone on the Rope is a great night tune. I love the mood that it invokes. It’s very melancholy and beautiful. Noel needs more piano in his tunes.

Ok I like this song but what was the point in that spoken French part!?! Seems so out of place and pointless.
What a killer melody though, love the bass in this so much

Yeah it could be indeed. It's not like it hasn't happened before (Whatever and "How Sweet To Be An Idiot") I think I'm less inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt for that one... X I am simply because of all the times he's been so direct about his 'pinching' that I don't see why he would deny this one in particular. After admitting it for Coca-Cola and T-Rex, I don't think he'd be afraid of the guy singing How Sweet To Be An Idiot.

I'm not crazy about the chorus but it's fine. The verses and production are fantastic though.

what really makes the song for me is the drums, put a normal generic drum beat on this and it would of been pretty dull imo, now i know nothing about playing the drums myself so i don't have a clue what the drummer is doing but it really gives the song a groove, reminds me of the drums on ticket to ride for some reason ? anyway, their hypnotising.

As someone pointed out, the drums are very similar to Breathe by The Prodigy.

Beatiful song this one. This album gonna have good drums and bass, something that seemed impossible in a Noel album.
And yes, he is all avant garde on us, but that final part where he repeats the last line four times... that's the same old Noel we love!!!

I like the production and atmosphere the song creates but where the fuck is the actual melody? The chorus is weak as fuck and the verses are average at best. Holy Mountain still the best tune for me.

Indeed, I wish the chorus was as good as the rest of the song. That's all I got.

Wonder why they played the radio edit when they did it live in Jools Holland. Perhaps that’s Noels preferred version? The radio edit actually sounds like a more finished version of the song to me as far as structure goes (usually radio edits are the opposite). It makes the album version sound like the remix, with needless extended sections etc... The bass and drums in the verses are superb though. Wonder if they sampled the same beat used in Breathe by The Prodigy for it: Noticed that the album trailer version was actually slightly different though, had the French “attention, attention...” line looping, which doesn’t happen on the real song. I had thought that was going to be reprised during the outro and would have been how the song would end, obviously not though! The drums are "borrowed" from Vitamin C by Can! From the genius that is (was) Jaki Liebezeit.

The third verse is brilliant by the way:
I'm blinded by the light I try to catch my breath I sing a song of love and you can teach me what you know of death.
It's walking in your dreams it's written in the sky and when you feel the heat you know you've found the reason why.

Has anyone else noticed the keyboards in the last 6 seconds of the song play the refrain from I Heard Wonders? Or is that just my imagination?
