D'You Know What I Mean?, Stand By Me, Don't Go Away, All Around The World, I Hope, I Think, I Know, Be Here Now, My Big Mouth, Fade In-Out...
Most bands would give their nuts for one, just one of those songs.

It would be awesome if someone made a film, albeit a short one (72 minutes), that uses Be Here Now as the backing sound track. The album feels like it has a pretty good arch to it emotionally.

Found my old edit of Be Here Now on my PC: 1. D'You Know What I Mean? [7:21] 2. My Big Mouth [3:53] 3. Magic Pie [4:54] 4. Stand By Me [5:23] 5. I Hope, I Think, I Know [No Change] 6. The Girl in the Dirty Shirt [No Change] 7. Going Nowhere [No Change] 8. Fade In/Out [5:58] 9. Don't Go Away [No Change] 10. Be Here Now [No Change] 11. All Around the World [7:50] 12. It's Gettin' Better (Man!!) [5:53] 13. All Around the World [No Change] Some of them are a bit dodgy (My Big Mouth, Magic Pie), some are pretty good (All Around the World, IGBM), but Stand By Me is much better, I think. I agree with theyknowwhatimean , though, that mixing/arrangement was a MUCH bigger problem on this album than the song-lengths.

This album was a gateway drug for me. Without "Be Here Now" who knows if I would ever find Oasis so thank fuck that it happened! From a chronological point of view it provides a nice closure to the original Oasis period - the five scallies from Manchester that basically hit it big overnight. Not to mention that it's a part of the Holy Trinity (alongside DM and WTSMG) - the other four albums pale in comparison with the first three. Also, Robbie Williams based his entire fucking career on "All Around the World". If that's not telling you something, then I don't know what is

The production styles are completely different. Talk about messing with the flow.

Such a shame this song was only a bside.

I think I like every song on BHN more than Stay Young, so to me it's good where it is!

As an American, I loved all the hype leading up to it. This was pre modern internet. The only hype I had was in my head, the promo images I saw at the local record store, MTV news reports and import magazines at Barnes & Noble. It probably wasn't until 1999 and early 2000 that the realization that most of the world decided it wasn't really good and was a black eye on Oasis. I believe 20 years later that stance has softened and people take it for what it was, you really had to Be Here Now.

I was 8 and had absolutely zero opinion on Oasis. Wish I was born in 1979.

I once created a playlist changing Be Here Now around. Can't remember exactly now but it was something like:
1. D'Yer Know What I Mean? 2. My Big Mouth 3. Stay Young 4. I Hope, I Think, I Know 5. The Fame 6. The Girl In A Dirty Shirt 7. Stand By Me 8. Don't Go Away 9. Be Here Now 10. It's Getting Better (Man!!) 11. All Around The World (Reprise mixed in for a 10/11 minute epic finish)
Was ok but...no, never mess with the original

I go back and forth on Going Nowhere - from a songwriting perspective, I think it's definitely one of the best of the era. It's a break for the listener, would have appealed to the casuals, and it doesn't suffer from any of Be Here Now's usual problems. It would have helped the album's reputation both then and now, and I think it flows pretty well between TGITDS and Fade In/Out. On the other hand, it doesn't fit the albums aesthetic and weakens what makes Be Here Now so unique; it's excess, noise, and complete lack of vulnerability. Because of it's cleanliness and laid-back nature, it doesn't really feel like a Be Here Now track.
By the way, I'm really enjoying my edit. DYKWIM doesn't miss the extra twenty seconds of outro, My Big Mouth is better as a four-minute burst, the sooner Magic Pie gets to the solo the better, Stand By Me is SO much more appealing when the chorus doesn't drag, and All Around the World + It's Gettin' Better (Man!!) is a much more enjoyable end when it doesn't feel endLESS. And for now I'm keeping Going Nowhere in.

Going Nowhere is great, it sounds very BHN, but the sentiment is very different, Noel wrote it in 1990, way before his Oasis fame, the lytics are also very different from the other BHN era songs.
"I'm gonna be a millionaire so can you take me there"
GN lyrics just doesn't belong to BHN, particularly this line, maybe if he changed it to: "I'm gonna be somewhere, so can you take me there".
Also what about this line?
"Wanna be wild cos my life's so tame"

Best Oasis album - period!
I was 19 back then. It was a Thursday and me and my mate were driving to the local Cd shop early in the morning. We arrived there before the store was open and so we were listening to other Oasis songs to get in the right mood. When the store finally opened we were the first customers. After we had bought the album we were cruising in our car and we were listening to the whole album. I think it was a cool way to celebrate an album release like that. Whenever I hear songs from that album today it always reminds me of that day.

I did this last year... www.mixcloud.com/SimonLove/bhn-sls-2016-rethink/ It's mostly the same songs but with some judicious editing and with bits from the songs I cut out included (for example the intro of DYKWIM is the outro from Magic Pie and the scream from Fade In/Fade Out comes before the guitar solo...which is cut in half) D'You Know What I Mean? My Big Mouth Stand By Me The Girl In The Dirty Shirt Don't Go Away Stay Young Be Here Now It's Gettin' Better (Man!!) All Around The World

That is a great article. I love the album. In a strange way I also like what it symbolises and what it meant for the band as a whole. The article mentioning it being an Icarus moment is spot on.
The criticism of the album is 100% fair. But I think it’s so close to being a quality album that would have been received well by everyone. Songs need to be shorter, a couple tracks could be replaced with better B-Sides. But despite this, I like what it became.
